Most players who have many characters barely play regularly on all of them.
In most cases the alts are just for crafting writs/more inventory storage/occasional build testing.

Just from personal experience most of the players I know that need a lot of storage find it cheaper to just make a secondary account and use the 8 slots for that to store non-bound stuff. Most of the players that buy extra character slots do use them for actual playing (though I'm sure there are outliers).

I have 15 slots, one tank/support, one magicka dd and one stamina dd of each class. They are all set up (max level and mostly all golded out BiS gear) to be used as whatever they are (DPS, heals, tanks) none of them are mules (I never used my extra slots for mules even before we had expanded bank and crafting bag - they all carry their own gear and whatever alternate sets they might use and that's it. Even when we had to level up through vet ranks seperately on each character they were all maxed out. They all have undaunted, all silver/gold done, all mages guild leveled up, most skyshards (some didn't get all the ones in cyrodiil and IC) and most have even done the quests for the DLC zones as well.

Though I do use all of them for crafting as well, but when you are setting them all up with good gear, that's more about breaking even than getting ahead like someone that has their original 8 slots and uses a few for characters and the rest for crafting alts.

I think when it comes to buying extra slots and not just using left overs from the first 8, there are more people out there that do this than some assume.

As for the original question of how to we have time to use them? Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. Might have more time one week than another, but I also use them as I feel like it or need. I tank for my trial group and we have a training team I started tanking for as well that I'll alternate my other non-main tanks for just to mix it up - I also will alternate my characters if we do multiple runs during a leaderboard week. If we need a dps or healer, then I have those options ready as well and I can just play whichever one I feel like at the time and I have another set up mostly for pvp. But I probably only a quarter of my characters get hard-core use, the others I tend to play when I'm bored and feel like doing something like some side quests or DLC quests and then I'll just use a guy that I don't play as much and do some adventuring.

Yes, please. Let us choose which tutorial we'd like a particular character to complete. Unless Summerset is going to feature more of a starter area than Morrowind did, I'd really prefer all my characters to start in Coldharbour. Also, if each chapter is going to have its own tutorial with a skill point, offer a skill point for completing the questline which introduces existing characters to the new zone.

I enjoy making alts. I don't have all my character slots unlocked yet but it is likely to happen with time. I feel confident that more character slots will become available over time.

The first time through new players should start with the original quest. It really sets the stage for who the character is. At the very least you shouldn’t be allowed to get past a certain level without beginning the main quest. Maybe level 8? I can’t imagine a game designer wanting people to start in the middle of the story and not know basic things.

Why are there anchors falling from the sky? What are they supposed to accomplish? Why is anything like that happening at? Why do people talk about your soul? What does the word vestige mean to my character?

That’s all answered upfront, but I guess it’s harder to sell a new game and start people off at the beginning from several years ago.

Yes: I want to experience the new expansion with a brand new character using dropped gear and no help from my wealthy main.

I also want the Morrowind skill point for my wealthy main.

Yes i still have my default 8, i just delete when i want a new character..

I like levelling and ranking up everything on new guys so the altaholic in me says yes.

I would like to play through summerset while ranking up a new guy. Yet i cant imagine the race/class/role i would make considering i feel i have everything i want now. 3 of each class for different roles.

I'd like another 5 personally.

I'd settle for 1 though.
