I’m dreading the patch notes tomorrow...I’ll admit it. I feel like the combat team has missed the mark for several updates in a row, amd from what I’ve seen they’re going to do it again.

My biggest concern is that the combat team constrains 95% of the abilities while letting 5% run rampant, and that this update will further push builds into cookie cutter configurations and reduce the overall diversity in the population. I’m tired of seeing the PvP population move further and further toward a few builds...and that happens when classes are ignored, and the combat team wastes its time on nonsense while overlooking the things people complain about. I’m never going to play a mag dk, but why are mag dks left so horrible in this update? Why are they screwing around with light and heavy attack values and not addressing bigger concerns?

I like my stamblade, and I’d be happy to play him 99% of the time. But I’m sad to see so many of the classes neglected so that I’m only fighting 5-8 builds in Cyrodiil. In a game that’s as open and flexible as ESO, it speaks to a failure of the combat team that they allow the meta to become such a narrow range of classes and builds.

So.... what are the specific issues and how would you fix them?

A woefully insufficient supply of bees to throw at my enemies as a non-warden. :p

Though, seriously, @davey1107, relax. If you really want to see what's coming, I think @Alcast and @Ixtyr published their notes from the testing event last month (Alcast's is on his site, Ixtyr's are on reddit). So the basic class changes are already out there if you want to find them. There might be some minor tweaks, but overall, I'd actually say Wrobel's done a pretty good job this time.

Because they assume that everyone animation cancels and is therefore doing a lot of light attacks. Kind of sucks to see the game getting balanced around an unofficial unintended mechanic, at least if you're like me and never managed to learn it. :/

Throwing a light attack in between every skill is now officially included in the Level Up Advisor tips.

The game isn't being balanced around the idea that everyone is animation canceling. The team knows that there's a massive gulf between new players and those in the top two or three percent. They're not balancing the game to push you out.

A rather legitimate anxiety. Most of the balance changes in the last year have been corrective. Things were over performing, so they took a Nerf to the head. The big examples are things like block cost discounts in Dragonbones and Sustain across the board in Morrowind. That's not the case this time, and the balance change info is already out there to allay fears. But, you know, it's certainly a legitimate anxiety.

Based on what I've read, there does seem to be an obsession with buffing light attacks in this upcoming patch:
    • Light and Heavy Attacks now scale differently, they now scale about the same with Magicka/ Stamina as with Spell/ Weapon damage. Therefore, weaving will be even more important from now on as the overall damage of both Light and Heavy Attacks got increased by a lot.
    • Bound Armaments: This is no longer a toggle. 11% Light Attack dmg now instead Heavy Attack.
    • Empower was completely reworked, instead of getting a 20% damage bonus on the next attack you now gain 40% more damage on your next Light attack.
    • Imbue Weapons: Casting this skill applies a buff that adds extra Physical Damage to your next two Light Attacks for 2s.
    • Unknown Skill: Your Light attacks now heal your group members.

I assume that's intended to benefit the animation cancellers and weavers, although I suppose it might also be meant to help people who try to light attack spam their way through a dungeon ...

Considering that, like I said above, ZOS is now advising leveling players to throw light attacks in between every skill through the Level Up Advisor, I don't find the general buffing of light attacks to be all that surprising a development.

And, to be fair, the strife nerf was just to bring it in line with similar abilities.

I think MagDK gets a boost while StamDK gets nothing really . Templar gets a nerf that is not necessary . NB gets a morph removed for a tanking heal ability that's not strange for an ability called dark cloak . Overall I am not excited for the class changes but willing to test and see them in action before casting the overall down vote .Change is always a pain in th donkey .

    Rly?
You reply to every suggestion made in these forums to improve underperforming features with a text along the lines "it is fine as it is" and now you question this dude and try to discredit him?

    "So... specific... how?"
    There are countless topics ignored/discredited.
Rly? You are going to pretend that nobody mentions specific issues and specific solutions?

    Whiteknighting is so annoying

Ive given up hoping for build diversity and balance. Ill play my style knowing that it underperforms and enjoy any victories

I really wished they'd throw us Stam DKs a bone in PvP but also lend my Mag DK a hand in PvE. It's pretty funny because Stam DK in PvE is pretty balanced with little sustain issues while Stam DK PvP has sustain issues and lacks damage other than its ultimate. Mag DK PvE isn't nowhere near balanced with terrible sustain and low damage issues while Mag DK PvP has pretty good sustain and high damage.

This is what I do now. I did my two years trying to make ESO something it wasn't and making myself miserable playing a "bad" game.
Now I play a game I love and get to enjoy it. Although careful, if you don't hate everything in ESO and everything ZOS does you're a whiteknight.

I'm not going to ragequit over it right now. It's a bit annoying to see the game being tuned more and more around a play style that I find awkward and clunky, but it's still an awesome game and most importantly still a TES game. :D
