My Biggest Issue With ESO

I don't understand why this hasn't been addressed. The game has degrading performance the longer you remain logged in. After longer content or multiple zone changes, the game becomes noticeably choppier and hitches often.

It isn't an issue with my PCs or addons. It happens on my 1080 Ti / 7820x system AND 1060 / 8350k system. I've also tested it on AMD systems, and have removed addons with no improvement. It's a known problem that a lot of people have reported. It's more noticeable on displays that exceed 60 FPS. After long stints in Cyrodiil, or doing content such as Dragonstar Arena, it gets very bad. If I make it to the last round of DSA, a relog more than doubles my FPS.

I don't understand why this hasn't been addressed. Well, I suppose I do. It's not a pressing concern because it doesn't pay the bills. I hate having to relog every half hour or so just to keep the game running smoothly.

What happens if you force the display to 60fps and enable vSync?

Same problem but less obvious. My lighter rig is 60 FPS with driver level vsync. Main system is 144 with gsync.

What you are describing is a memory leak. To me it seems that many mmo's have them, some are greater than others. Have you tried doing /reloadui ?

what he describes is not memory leak but bad coding...i am complaining about this thing since the very 1st damn day of the game...and i have a powerplant rig...also i tried it on many other different ones and even on my laptop its the same damn thing unless you have a GTX 700 series which the game was designed upon thus performing in a flawless manner also the same thing for Xbox one idk about the new one or PS4 since i despite consoles all together... but you get my point...why this hasn't been addressed yet? well maybe it is...maybe its not but my guess is that Zo$ is working on a DX12 transition for the game that will hopefully put all those complain files in to the crematorium once and for all...now as for when that might happen...still waiting...

I don't think it's a memory leak, but rather, a growing cache. Most games have them now because constant refreshes to the server taxes them.

The only way I know of to remove the temporary cache is to log out of the game, shut it down, and restart it. This flushes the cache and acts like a "fresh" game again.

Annoying, but this is the price of "online" gaming.

As a software engineer, I can say with confidence that this sucks.

Tried to play again after a one year hiatus, even with an upgrade to a 1080 ti the fps drops to stuttery 40s from stable 60 in half a hour. A simple relog fixes it (dont have to exit the game). ZOS can go *** themselves since I'm never returning to this game.

Id say bad coding causing a memory leak. It has gotten progressively worse since January. The game is more unstable, has more bugs, and has more lag/fps drops/sync issues than it did 3-4 months ago. Every update it gets worse. So i dont think its an issue of cache, i think its an issue of bad coding making an unstable memory sucking client. Sort of like a graphics version of windows vista.

I've concluded consoles take precedence, and if your PC is not a potato, ESO scales horrifically.

I know it would run fine if I put it on a 980ti 1080p pc. However this pc is two 1080's and a VM short of four 1440p gaming machines on one motherboard, so it goes from 100fps in 4k to 25fps in 30 minutes.

I have only noticed this after playing for a really long time. Like above 8 hours, when Im practically DONE in my head anyway, they fps seems a but lower and I also noted the exe in memory seems larger. Perhaps there is small memory leak in the game somewhere?

I've run into this problem on several occasions...
I've found that "/reloadui" helps, but provides diminishing returns later and later...

I play in windowed mode. Whenever my game drops from 100 FPS to 25-30 FPS, I simply click the taskbar then back on the game and I'm back to 100 FPS. The drop tends to happen when hitting a loading screen like going into Delves, using Wayshrines, or moving in and out of instanced areas. Windowed Fullscreen works too, but then the space I need to hit is the other monitor then back to the game, its a longer distance to travel.

Easy to notice this because the game starts lagging and drops fps hard. If anyone is doing vMA and can't clear it fast enough it starts to lag that much it's almost impossible to finish it.

Don't really notice this myself but then I do log out and into another character from time to time. With the next update ESO will make use of multi core processors so that might improve performance.
