Should I call it quits on my hybrid?

I was looking forward to mechanical + shacklbreaker, but it looks like the heavy/ light damage changes are going to kill what little hybrid ability was there. I’m not good enough to just throw 5k+ dps out of the window. My hybrid leans stam and is a lv 38 dark elf sorc. It’s been fun leveling, but there’s not enough damage thus far for soloing normals or vMA.

Mostly I want a pet and liquid lightning going while I dual wield. Any suggestions? I’m near cp cap, but don’t spend it til level 50.

dual wield is surely option for magicka builds, but magicka sorcerer dont have much spammable abilities. thats why magicka builds run with destrostaves. actually you just can use skill like mages fury, hunting curse and crystal frags, for that you dont need a stave. also sets like mechanical acuity, shacklebreaker and innate axiom would fit very well. but in the end, you have to go on full magicka with those sets to have decent damage.

    Depends.

If you want to roleplay in the overland and normal dungeons, do what you want to do. You don't need crazy DPS for that. Have fun first, nothing else matters.

If you're trying to accomplish difficult endgame group content (vet DLC dungeons, vet trials, etc), give it up. This isn't Skyrim and you can't be an effective jack of all trades. Your groups needs you on your A-game for that stuff, and splitting your stats too much makes you a burden to the group. Don't be that guy.

I was doing a similar build with an imperial sorc (because of all of the stat pull passives) while running a destroy staff and dual wield with Pelinals crafted set (DB patch).

It was fun in dungeons with VO... Doing lightning wall and liquids on back bar, while still doing steel nado and hurricane on front bat etc... dropping destro ultimates while finishing with spin to win..

I found that it only worked 'okay' in dungeons for the 3pc bonus of VO to kick in.. was totally impractical otherwise... havent touched it since. It might be worth looking at again with these new sets, but i think you will forever be gimped as a hybrid....

but yeah... TLDR - Pelinals/VO was a fun time with destro/dw.

Sorc pets only scale to Max mag, meaning they blow for hybrids. You can't have 40k mag and be a hybrid lol.

So, if you want pets you go mag sorc or Stam sorc with Pets that come from sets, but no hybrid.

There's little point in being a hybrid tho. You end up something like a mag sorc that can Dodge roll a lot and use vigor with meh dmg

Yes. If light/heavy attacks scale better with max attribute then hybrids are deader.

Soloing normals shouldn't be an issue, even after the new la/ha scaling. But until we have access to the PTS, we won't know how big the gap between hybrids and pure builds will actually be. We have to wait a little.

However, being able to run 2 crafted sets could benefit hybrids a bit. I imagine running shacklebreaker with TBS (tower + mage). Put Domi and Kena with a lot of prismatic enchants on top of that and you could be around 33-34k on both resources with tri-food. Even higher if you use blue food. Not counting in Bound Armor or Magelight. Weapon and spell damage would sit around 3-3.5k. You could go even higher with Necropotence + Hulking Draugr.

And this is where the fun ends. "High" resources are nice, but you'd lack other important stats. 3.5k weapon dmg is quite low nowadas. Regen will be low too, but you can make up for that by stressing both resources equally. However, crit will be low, CP distribution won't catch up with pure builds as well.

But again, this doesn't take into account what else comes with SS, like changed jewelery traits, light attack scaling etc.

Also Waffennacht got a point. Proc Pets might be an alternative. They don't scale with your resources and free up bar space you might need for stat increasing skills (magelight, bound armour).

In the end it totatlly depends on what you really want. Leaderboards? Run a meta build. Having a lot of fun? Totally go for your hybrid.
