Go into your router settings and check if you've got IpV6 activated. ESO can't handle IpV6 and disconnects you A LOT.
If you don't know how to find this call your provider or someone with the similar router. If it is activated deactivate IpV6 and your problems should be solved.
Also, as always on the PC when troubleshooting, load the game with no addons and see if the issue persists.
And makes sure you have opened the ports on your router that the game wants. Although that should not be kicking you, it will maximize the performance.
If your router is also Wireless, disable the WiFi to test, it could be a leech sucking up all your bandwidth. Unlikely, but an easy test to do.

Any ideas what is going on? It's very weird. First I suspected it might be my wifi, so I tried disabling wifi and connecting a lan cable. Didn't make a difference. Then I thought well maybe my internet disconnects for a few seconds every ~40 min, so to test if a short connection disconnect could cause logout I purposely tried pulling out the Lan cable for 5 seconds then plugging the Lan cable back in, but I didn't get disconnected, got +999 ms latency, but no disconnect, worked fine when lan cable got back in. Tried doing this more than 20 times during an hour; same result every time: no disconnect. I had to unplug the cable for 10 seconds to get logged out. So this means that whatever logs me out can't just be a short disconnect, because as I tested out even 5 seconds of lan cable unplugged doesn't cause disconnect. But the weird thing is then that I don't have any disconnects otherwise than the logout from ESO. And apart from logout every 40 min eso runs perfectly, no lag or anything, got ~50-60 ms latency.
Is the server booting me or something?

Not sure of the cause, but on the bright side, isn't the going advice to take a short break every 45 minutes? The disconnects are a perfect reminder and force you to take breaks.
Does it say the server has stopped responding? Or do you just go straight to the login screen?

I don't want to be forced to do anything thank you very much. Im perfectly able to manage my own playtime and breaks. There's no bright side about getting kicked from the game just as our group is about to face the last boss in that vet dungeon. "Oh but look on the bright side: you received a forced break! yay!"
