How do YOU feel about Morrowind in the crown store and in ESO+

If you don’t know, ZOS has announced that Morrowind will be available in the crown store, and available through ESO+ along with battlegrounds becoming public. Now to me, this seems like a great idea.. If only they did this straight from the start. Of course they probably hadn’t thought of it, but the fact that they are selling the Warden class separately is sorta Eh. My main problem is if they continue to do this for the future chapters. Imagine if they, next year decided to chuck Summerset in the crown store, and sell Jewlery Crafting in it separately too. It just essentially rips off the people who got it early, and who paid good money for basically something ‘premium’.
But what do you think? How do you feel about this whole scenario?

All chapter’s should be put in the crown store

I think the current model is pretty nifty - all chapters except the latest one in crown store.

This is how other MMO's do it..roll the previous expansion into the base game.
It's good business IMO because brand new players would only have to buy the base game + current expansion.

In the case of ESO they have to account for B2P and the ESO+ and I think they did a fair job of separating items.

I bought Morrowind as soon as it came out because I wanted to play it straight away - knowing that if I'd wait, I could probably get it for much cheaper or maybe even for free, somewhere down the line. My 'premium' is the year of Morrowind access that the people getting it for free right now haven't been able to enjoy and fully take advantage of.

How is this a bad thing? I pre-ordered Morrowind and I am in no way concerned with this change. The older something gets the cheaper it is. This is true on all kinds of products.

ZOS made something and I bought it. This new change does not change the fact that you have to pay for products and services.

I am sure that summerset will have the same cycle. So wait until next june and you will get it at a reduced cost or the part you want. The rest of us will pay for the product and enjoy playing it.

Seriously, though I think the change is good and this is the way Morrowind should have been offered from the start, ZOS needs to pick a pricing model and stick with it.

Going back and forth with what is in the crown store and what ESO+ provides is just jerking people around. Probably not their intention.

Now I'm not sure if I should buy Summerset now or wait a year

actually, I'm closer to mildly annoyed.

Then just stick with the base game. You'll get Morrowind for "free" and can play that. When the next chapter comes out in a year then you'll probably get Summerset for "free".

If you're willing to stay one chapter behind current game then you'll have your "free game" and won't feel ripped off.

I don't care personally. I paid for my content, easily got my moneys worth from it and didn't have to pay for the pre-order content.

I think moving it over to the base game or broken up Crown Store purchases is better for new players coming in, they can pick up the bits they're interested in rather than being forced to buy into an expensive chapter for something they don't want (sadly like some of us had to).

I think it would be better if ZOS launched all their chapters like this, but I don't see that happenings sadly.

I'm perfectly fine with it.

I paid and got immediate access. Imo, for me, the content was worth the cost. I buy all the dlc anyway in case I ever drop my sub for any reason, so getting it at release was six the one, half dozen the other type of thing.

I pre-ordered Summerset, too.

1. I never understood why it wasn't in the crown store to begin with. Make it cost the equivalent in crowns and be done with it. I'm going to spend that cash either way.
2. Every game I've ever played with any kind of expansion or DLC, depreciates. Eventually the addons that cost a premium when they launched go way down in price, or get bundled in, or given away free.
3. Every MMO I've played has rolled previous expansions into bundles or base game, or both
4. Not sure if this is an ESO player thing or a generational thing but the amount of whining about the above is insane compared to games I've played in the past

On one hand I AM annoyed that it is exactly a DLC now, It's available for ESO plus and now purchasable with crowns.

HOWEVER the warden still has to be purchased so everyone (including myself) who bought Morrowind as a chapter got everything all in one package for a year now. So they won't be getting everything without paying up at least a good $20.00 to get access to everything we have had for getting the full chapter

It's now more of a "discount" with easier payment methods now

I do think opening up Battlegrounds to everyone was a good move though.

Ultimately this will make the game more open and people will still have to pay some money to get everything that the people who bought the chapters spent.

For the health of the game, this is a great move as more players will be able to join up now.

If you have a problem with it though, you can always wait a year for summerset and pay for the additonal features that we will get for purchasing it as a Chapter.

TLDR:Chapters are a good deal for all the development content that are added and included in these packages. Just pointing that out for everyone.

This is a good policy that helps to keep the game population from being segmented. IMO they should extend it further: Imperial City is the oldest DLC and in desperate need of a population boost. Make the zone part of the base game, while accessing the zone's dungeons or doing the zone's main quest requires an ESO+ subscription.

not looking for a "free game", (never said I was either) subbed since lauch, etc, etc, blah blah blah. Just waiting for ZOS marketing to make up their minds, which probably won't happen. I've got no problem dropping $40 on a "chapter" or buying "DLC" for that matter.

I don't mind--as long as I like playing the game I'd get the new content. What I find bothersome is how inconsistent they are with their justification of what 's a chapter, a DLC, etc. They should have added BGs to the base game from the start, however, they had to justify calling Morrowind a chapter and not a DLC somehow, and BGs/Warden was the only thing setting it apart. Their inconsistency is what's bothersome. Essentially we are paying for the priviledge of playing new content when it gets released, not according to whether it's a DLC/chapter, because it will naturally get discounted and re-packaged as it gets older. The good thing is it will definitely attract new players.

I feel a mix of "ripped off", "should stay premium, separate purchase" and "chapters should be put in the Crown Store".

If they're able to do it with Morrowind now, they can do it with Summerset, which they probably will do come a year from now. But it does go to show that these chapters should've just been in the Crown Store from the beginning and, like people've said, was just a cash-grab scenario.

Sure I've been playing it earlier, but I also couldn't use Crowns or ESO+ to play it, so why can't they just have chapters from now on be purchasable from the Crown Store/with ESO+ instead of having to pay an extra, separate fee?

If they want them to be a separate fee, to be an expansion pack, then keep it that way. Don't add it to the Crown Store, but if they want everyone to have easier access to it, then just put it in the Crown Store from the beginning. Call it a chapter, call it a DLC, call it a hoozlephink, just have it be one way and one way forever.

I am glad they did this. More people in Vvardenfell, more people in BGs. I like to meet other people while playing the game, even if I don't interact with most of them (so it doesn't feel like yet another single player game). Vvardenfell seemed deserted lately in many parts of the island except Vivec and Sadrith Mora

It's exactly as I expected it would be and am completely fine with it. It allows new players, or poor players, still be able to experience the content eventually, while those who can afford it and want to play it early buy it. I'll still preorder every chapter of course, as I genuinely want to play the content, but I'm glad this is there for others.

This is how MMO's work.

When a new expansion comes out the old one is rolled into the base.
A new player to the game then just has to buy the base + current expansion.

It would become cost prohibitive if each expansion remained separate and after a few years have to buy the base plus x number of expansions to play the current game.

Wow, for example, is 14 years old. Imagine the cost for a new player if expansions were not rolled into the base ?

Any MMO wants to constantly attract new players to keep the world full.
Keeping costs reasonable....base + 1 expansion is a sensible business practice that most MMO's use.

Distinctly ticked off more like it.

I really didn't care if the new base game included Morrowind as it was still a cash-required purchase, but now they really have no ground to stand on trying to exclude Summerset from ESO+ and the Crown Store. Morrowind is a DLC now, and so is Summerset. This just confirms what everyone was saying from the get-go, that the "Chapter" was only used to force subscribers to spend more irl money on DLC.

If nothing else ZOS should at least stick to their stupid "Chapters are different" statement, but here they are, proving all the skeptics and critics right.

The fact that Summerset is, according to all current info, still going to be excluded from ESO+ has no basis in logic anymore.

Before Morrowind released, I wanted it to be included in the crown store for those who had excess crowns (Even though I wanted the physical collector’s edition regardless of price). Now, however, they’ve built chapters on the premise that they are different from DLC. They retracted their promise to include all DLC in ESO+ by giving it a different name. This was already a slippery decision. We went along eventually, however, as they persistently reiterated that it was a ‘Chapter’ and not a DLC. We, for the most part, came to terms with this. Now, it is clear that they founded this distinction on a lie. They are putting Morrowind in the DLC section of the crown store! (“you'll be able to find it in the DLC section of the in-game Crown Store.” https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/26355) How can we take their claims seriously when they contradict their own sales practices? The situation is dubious at best, false advertising at worst as they clearly lied about their product.

I feel bad, since I bought Morrowind with rl money.
I've no idea why Summerset Upgrade is 50% more expensive (120 pln) than Morrowind Upgrade (80 pln). Prices from Bethesda store.
I understand this 50% more is for the nightmare mount that was "free of charge" as this is supposed to be, lol the hidden price says it all. I'll wait for the price drop.

My Summerset Pre-order upgrade was quite a bit cheaper than my Morrowind pre-order upgrade from last year. Are you sure you were looking at the same editions?

This move has definitely stopped me from purchasing any more supposed chapters. I unfortunately already purchased summerset but I'm actually trying to get a refund. I feel this is a dirty business move after forcing us to purchase it.

There are comparisons people are making that IMO are like comparing apples to oranges. wow & ESO are not even in the same universe. You have ESO that has some of the best graphics I've ever seen. wow looks like it was designed by kindergartners for kindergartners. & as for all other MMO's are doing it? No they are not. Some yes but not all. But using that mentality, if every MMO jumped off a bridge eso should too? Silly analogy I know, but it fits.

I personally would rather see companies set themselves apart from everyone else instead of the typical cookie cutter mentality. If everyone is going to copy everyone else what is the point of individuality?

I bought Morrowind for real money 10 days before Summerset was announced, and said that it would come with Morrowind for free, and of course I bought Summerset.

I wouldn't mind if I bought Morrowind at least a month earlier but this was just money wasted, bad timing I guess.

I had the use of the "stuff" for a good while via cash. Now I'm currently on the fence about the upcoming Isle, and I appreciate the option to wait and buy it with crowns.

BG as part of the base game is overdue; I don't often PvP but they need some love too.

Since I don't subscribe, and I wanted both Vvardenfell and the warden class, it doesn't affect me directly. Either I bought it from the store or I bought crowns and got it from the crown store, it comes to the same thing. (I know I could also have waited and got Morrowind bundled with Summerset, but even if I'd known in advance that would be an option I'd have bought Morrowind.)

In the long run I think this system is better for the game and for players. It simplifies purchases for new players - there are fewer versions of the game for them to choose between and less risk that they'll get the 'wrong' thing or miss out on something and have to make another purchase (which can put people off even if it's not expensive).

It also means that over time there's more chance that existing players will get it. Anyone who subscribes will have access to Morrowind even if they didn't think it was worth buying (and if you're not sure you can buy a 30 day subscription to try it out, and then put the crowns towards the purchase if you like it) and deals like bundling it with Summerset increases the number of people who will have it unlocked.

The problem is they made a mess of communicating all of this, either deliberately or because they kept changing their minds as time went on, which leaves a lot of people making choices which in retrospect were a bad deal for them and resenting that they weren't given all the info they needed to make a better choice.
