Who's Been Through a Character Culling?

I've been playing this game for nearly three years now, and I've realized the fact that I'm spending most of my time on just the mains that have the most content completed, because I just do not have the willpower to take other characters through the same thing all over again so they too can be complete. So I recently made the decision to delete two of my characters that I've had for a long time, a Templar and a Dragonknight, shortening my list from 6 characters to 4.

The Templar was my second character made in the game, she's been around for two years and I'd done a lot with her. Cadwell's Gold, a ton of Group Dungeon Healing, Character Achievements. But overtime I just could not stand how Templars dps. It didn't cooperate with my playstyle and because of this I've spent tens of thousands making her Stam then back to Magic then Stam once again trying to find that comfortable build, but to no success.

The DK was a relatively newer character. A StamDK dps, I had only gotten her through half of Cad Silver before I got fed up and stopped completing the entire zone and just rushed her through the main quests, and then tried to start her on Cad Gold. Got as far as finishing Auridon before I decided enough. I barely even played her anyway, she wasn't very good in Vet Group content which is already the domain of my MagSorc, and I only take my StamBlade into PvP. So the DK joined my Templar to the scythe.

I wanted to see this as a good thing. I just can't juggle myself between multiple Alts so those of you with a dozen of em just baffle me. I myself am quite content with just four, though honestly it would be just three, but I don't want to get rid of my Dunmer DK cause she has some thought behind her character and I like her, even if she's barely done anything at all besides get to Lvl50.

I rolled a whole bunch of characters for one of the events, but ended up deleting them as I wasn't happy with them.

I do agree about the replaying content though. In SWTOR at least I had different personal stories for each character (class) however ESO it's the exact same thing each time. I think only a couple of my characters have actually finished a bunch of zones and most just get SP from shards/dungeons.

I am constantly at conflict with myself because I am a "one character"- type of guy, but at the same time ESO is generously awarding people with alts (too much in my opinion) in regards to dailies and events.

An alt in any MMORPG served as just that; an alternative character whose only purpose is to further my main. Any time I get tired of my Stamplar being sub-par compared to other specs at any given time of history in the game and feel like rerolling I just think about how many hours I put into it.

But like I said; it's a constant struggle for me not spending more time on alts than is beneficial for my main and at times I feel like just deleting all of them so I don't lose focus - but then I remember how useful they are during events like the Anniversary (whenever I get time to do dailies on more than one character).

At times like these though it's always super tempting to reroll to Stamblade, Stamwarden or Stamsorc because they are simply more profeccient for the way I play the game - but I had no chance of knowing that when I chose Templar as my main during the beta.

I never make a character with any intent of deleting them, and I pick viable combos of race & build. Even if I don't play a character it still makes sense to keep it as writ crafter or simply bank space. I do invest quite a bit of money and time in my characters when I create them, since I buy all the backpack upgrades and train the horses; I also start leveling Enchanting soon after I make them because I do have quite a surplus of trash glyphs both from the writs of other characters and daily activities such as pledges and that takes long to level.

At this moment I have 14 characters, of which I only actually play 5, which are fully trained and have 360+ skill points each, with another 5 that have every relevant skill line and skill leveled, morphed and trained to rank IV but having less than 90 skill points have had those reset right after leveling and supplementary training, and allotted to the crafting skill lines instead, so they can perform the daily crafting writs; the latter basically just need skill points and lore books, AvA and Undaunted to become viable in end game. The last 4 are level 10 and only serve as storage space for my sets at this point, but I do intend to at least level them to 50 one day to also use as writ crafters; I have actually bought the 15th character slot and intend to fill it, but haven't actually settled on a race for the AD Sorcerer that will fill that slot; most likely it will an Orc.

The crafting writs take less than 5 minutes per character including the log in/off time, and provide a steady supply of legendary upgrade materials, crafting surveys and, in the last year or so, master writs. Over the last 3 months my 10 crafters have managed to bring in about 4K in vouchers. The current anniversary event also adds a reward box for each writ so I was able to get 60 of them just by logging each character and doing them. Deleting any of those characters would be quite a waste from my point of view.

Deleted the last two of my old bank alts and replaced them with real characters, 8 characters 3 i play actively.
Deleted two other bank alts around morrowind.

Having fully specked characters was nice for stuff like the dungeon event.
Would not delete any of the existing rather buy new slots.

I tried different alts with different classes/races.

My main (magNB) did all content. I really tried to do it again on an alt. None of them ever got as far as the first 3-4 zones. I did manage to grind at least one of them to lvl 50 but don't want to do it again.

So i only have one toon i play with

I am somewhat the opposite of the OP.

Once I get a character up to Level 50, the only reason that character exists is to farm CP. I find that boring. Eventually, I start new characters and start leveling them up. Sometimes, a handful of new characters. I have four below 50 that I am leveling up. This is why I have not yet hit CP cap.

Sometimes, I create a character for a purpose and that is the only purpose. For example, if I know I need a tank to do some dungeons with friends, I will create a new tank and level up to their level. These characters will get retired when I am done with them.

I retire characters from time to time. I have some right now that are standing naked in some bank waiting for their retirement papers to come through.

15 characters and holding lol. I make them all different, and they play out differently so the repeated content doesn't bother me. I do, on occasion, get the urge to start them over with various tweaks and ideas, so I'm trying to stop that.

I have the full set of 15 toons, but have gone through a couple of cullings before making new toons. First, I deleted four toons just because I found something about them either irksome or esthetically displeasing (I try to put a lot of work into my toons, but sometimes I just can't find myself growing to like the toon, even if it looks good in the end).

Next, when I joined the guild I'm in, it was EP-based for PvP, so I ditched all my non-EP toons (except my main crafter, which remains my sole AD) for new EP ones. No, it was not a guild requirement.
Ok, who aggroed? I did? Never! I wouldn't. I swear.

Long ago, I had a magicka and stamina variant of every class, along with a crafter and a pvp'er. However, I found that trying to keep them all relevant with gear etc was too taxing, so I re-jigged things.

Now, my characters fill different, specific roles; my stam sorc is my main stam pve, my magdk is my main mag pve. My magplar is my pvp'er. I also have a gatherer/chest hunter, a thief/assassin, my gear crafter and a consumable crafter.

Now, I can maintain alts that can do dailies for events without stressing too much about gear management etc.

I have 15 now, I like them all but in the end I play with 4/5 of them and only 3 for now are the ones I play in all different content.

For me it's good to have many characters for inventory space and experimenting with classes, I've created some of them expressly for pvp, other for pve, but they are just works in progress and perhaps will forever stay in progress, no time to focus and I cannot even imagine going through the boredom of skyshards or mage guild books, I tolerate the horse training but it's getting very annoying that too for the last 3 characters.

Btw I would like an option to stop at level 50 for some of them.

I like to have low levels, we shouldn't be forced to become CP ranked after the number is reached, an option could say "you reached level 50 ... want to switch as a ranked CP now?" something like that.
It happened to me they didn't had many abilities unlocked, they didn't even had proper gear, no time or no will to gear them up decently for that class and practice rotation for a class I didn't decently know, characters like those are useless. I'd rather stay at 49 and do my things until I feel ready to be CP.

I have 13 characters on the NA server and five on the EU server. Having that many is useful for events like these. More chances of getting loot boxes. :) The only time I ever deleted any is if they were low level, and if I replaced them immediately with a different class/race combo.

It's been a long road to outfit all the NA toons, and I still haven't gotten around to outfitting the EU ones.

    Deleting characters???!!!! You monster!

Soon to have 15 maxed "toons" - 14 already maxed in terms of Undaunted, horse, crafts, AvA etc.

I play them all and have no intention to delete any. This is how I farm gold and vouchers. Also good for daily stuff and weekly trial coffers.

Some gets parked for months but when I first play them I just focus on that character or class. I do have some favorites that being magBlade and stamSorc. Last 2 months I've been mostly playing wardens and stamDK - also finally upgraded my Ebon/Alcosh and been having a blast with my Kittytank

I cull characters almost daily. I am an altoholic, my fun comes from levelling new characters with appearances, builds, factions in mind. I often get between 20-40 level then just run out of interest on them. I have 10x 50s, 3x will be 50 and 2x eternally reprocessed it would seem.

honestly, i think its really stupid to delete characters. Other than to delete a low level character to make room for another, it makes no sense to delete something you spent so much time with.

it is just straight up dumb. Just leave them there, use them as storage anything but delete.

I am unfamiliar with this concept. I have 2 dps toons of each class, plus 2 tanks and a healer. And a mule. My 2 mains get the most time, in both pve and pvp, but all except the mule are played on a semi-regular basis.

When I find the end game material starts to feel like it is getting easy I will delete a character. I don't enjoy not being challenged to stay alive and like the grind to build a new character up. I am also not adverse to deleting a character if I don't like the way it feels when I use it, if it isn't fun why bother.

I have created and destroyed many a alt. I still have many alts but at any given time I really only play one main toon. For things like special events (jesters festival etc) I will only run one character through a day. For me alts are mostly just a distraction

It is fun to level them, gear them out a bit, play them occasionally in end game activities but in the end i really only play a main toon a majority of the time

Hindsight being what it is, had I ever known ESO would turn into the game it is today, I would have never have deleted my first NB, who'd by now have everything researched, max CP, and been a participant of multiple group dungeons/events.

But I blew away this character out of frustration and anger because, back then, stamBlades were horrible to play. I rolled a new character, magSorc, and walked her through the same 3 zones and was about to start Craglorn when I finally found myself completely burned out of the game.

Running those 3 zones back-to-back was excruciating. While I was having fun my magSorc wasn't dying so much, the repetition of the quests just took its toll.

I walked away from the game once she hit VR4.

I came back about two months before Morrowind was released. She ended up with no skills, attributes, or these new "CP" points, but I distributed them the best I could remember and played her for a short time. I visited Craglorn, hoping to complete the area since I heard it was more "solo" friendly (it's not). No one was around. Craglorn was left behind for the new content, and it makes sense.

I started another character after seeing stamBlades get some love, but once I set her through Auridon, again, the feeling of dread swept over me much faster, so I left once again.

I've only been back for a few weeks now, working on the very stamBlade I created nearly a year ago. Whatever ZoS did to this game has made it better and more enjoyable. Sure, the quests are still benign, but they are going a bit faster now that I don't feel I'm taking 12 minutes to kill a skeever.

I also learned to diversify the character a bit, instead of just "story questing". I'm focusing on skills and improvement, so I can do quests during downtime.

Sorry for the long-winded story, but I do have a point, I promise!

That point is: DO NOT EVER DELETE YOUR CHARACTERS BECAUSE THIS GAME CHANGES ALL THE TIME, especially those who've racked up significant leveling/research/mount purchases.

Just advice, as I definitely regret deleting my NB.
