Buff Meteor? In-response to Empower change

Meteor is currently the most tedious ultimate to obtain and yet is still underperforming, especially in comparison to Dawnbreaker. The fact that many Magicka players slot Dawnbreaker over Meteor is indicative of the current power level of the ultimate in both PvP. In PvE, Meteor is Largely outclassed by Destro ultimate in the AoE department and probably even Soul Assault in single target, even considering that SA is a channel.

With the loss of Empower, this gap becomes even larger. Meteor (along with a lot of other offensive ultimates if I'm being honest) requires a little nudge upwards to remain competitive.

A simple fix would be to just buff the tooltip by 20% (probably more like 10%-15% since it takes an extra attack turn to empower on live) but I personally would like to see other changes such as the DoT sticking to opponents hit so that the super easily blocked ultimate isn't wasted unless you run Petrify/Rune Cage.

Are you sure Meteor actually empowered itself?

Have you tested with / without points in the passive? There was a testing thread on her a while ago and I'm sure it debunked that theory.

TBH no, I read a thread on these forums that said it did XD. Before that I would actually cast Entropy into Meteor but stopped when I read said thread.

Never tested it as I prefer Dawnbreaker myself, just a fan of diversity.

I'll edit OP, but still doesn't change the fact that Meteor needs a buff, especially after Empower change.

I main DW MSorc as well and find DBoS to just be all around more reliable. It not empowering itself makes sense as I always felt my Magplar Meteor combo (included Entropy) was stronger than my Magsorcs despite my Magsorc having significant better offensive stats.

I don't think removing the telegraph would be a good way to go as it removes a large part of the counter-play and Meteor hits hard, stuns and is ranged. It does need easyish counterplay but an ultimate that's easy to counter should still provide some return on ultimate resource loss.

Soul Assault still punishes players (albeit way to much imo) for soft-countering it via resource drain. Meteor drains 1 block tick and 1 dodge roll to fully counter, which is pretty much the same as any other damage dealing CC, except it costs 200 ultimate.

If the description from Alcast is accurate (empower now grants 40% buff to next light attack), I don't quite see how this is useful in any situation. Why spend magicka to cast a spell that will increase damage of a single light attack?

If it must be changed, I suppose I'd rather see empower buff apply to next heavy attack, or some buff to all light attacks for a period of time.

One positive, perhaps this change will encourage more people to level up alts if there is no longer any need to collect all the lore books.

Light and Heavy attacks will both deal much more damage next patch. That light attack will hit harder than you think lol.

How much harder are we talking about?

They're going to scale the same way as abilities next patch, so Max stats will buff them too.

Woah, didn't see that part where they scale off Max Stats. That pretty much kills off DW magicka builds completely tho, which is kind of sad as they are fun to play.

That being the case, if slotting Meteor did something like passively grant a free Empower it definitely be worth slotting over Dawnbreaker.
