TO ADDRESS THE OP'S QUESTION, as the higher percentage of responders in this thread have ignored trying to do...I wish I knew how to code, I would be right on trying to write an add-on. I will ask a friend of mine who is familiar with Skyrim mod coding if such a thing might be possible with a game like this. It's not reasonable to expect the devs to do something about it as arachnophobia is just one of dozens of potential phobias players might have to deal with considering that MMOs are often the only way that some people with social phobias can manage to do some socializing, and phobias tend to run in clusters. I myself am phobic of dogs and you can imagine how much sympathy that might get in a game like this; it would run in the negative numbers. I personally avoid Daggerfall as much as possible to keep that horrible creature from chasing me all over the place until I've managed to sneak in and start its quest without involving it.
As far as all the "helpful" suggestions...you aren't therapists, don't presume to think you know what a therapist would suggest. It's VERY possible that the OP's request was the suggestion OF a therapist. Exposure therapy does not work for all phobia sufferers. Avoidance is an actual real thing, and so is trying to encourage people to be creative so that they don't miss out on life. Asking if someone can write an add-on is a completely valid approach. You can't assume that something that worked for you or your cousin or your cousin's mailman's little brother's roommate will work for someone else, and you can't assume that because someone is not doing what worked for you or etc. that they are not working under the guidance of a therapist. Sticking to the actual questions posed in the OP really works out best for everyone. It makes everyone look extremely kind and helpful, at the very least.
The most logical answer was to attempt to help OP to seek help in real life. They have not ignored,it could be very difficult to deal with such phobias indeed for I have one as well but I managed to conquer it by myself and I find phobias related to pixel realm very amusing and absurd too be perfectly honest. The comparison of Virtual world and real life world simply cannot go in my book and mind. People have to "understand" it is not real.It cannot hurt you ,but indeed it's far more complicated to say ~ Deal with it, or Do not be afraid. Indeed, I agree the same therapy will not and cannot work everyone , but what OP seeks cannot be implemented. In can be done in theory, but its far more complicated and could cause other technical problems. Filtering certain mobs in RPG or MMO is a whole other story. As for what Therapist would suggest, I know the exact procedure, there are following steps, Talk and always medication will be given/recommended. If you are strong enough to conqueror phobia by yourself, you to have to embrace medications or eternally cover in shadows and avoid it, there are exposure therapies ,special ones and so on.. Let the darkness consume thee? Nay. Nonsense. I've see fire and shadow in real life and would allow I pixel spiders to frighten me? It does not work best for everyone sorry.No. Asking Developer team to completely revamp a monster because of real life phobia, Absurd. I'll stay what I say before and do not mistake me. I wish OP all the best but the in game forums is not to place to solve a phobia issue.
Kind Regards
Vanya

I'm fortunate in that my own phobia is not so bad that I can't do content with them (or I basically wouldn't be able to play this game at all) but I enjoy the game FAR LESS when I am having to deal with them and will typically avoid them if I can.

Also fact: people with specific phobias can't just "get over it". It is almost identicle to having a panic attack and telling the person "just calm down." It takes counseling, exposure therapy, medications, and many other treatments (sometimes multiple for one person) just to be able to deal with it.
While I'm not going to sit here and tell zos not to make giant spiders (as others mentioned, staple RPG element and is going nowhere), I think it'd be fair to stop telling the OP to "seek help" or get over it. It's also a fair and genuine request of an addon writer's time.No one cares so it's in a spoiler: I have apiphobia, and it is typically triggered by buzzing because I got stung in my ear as a child. I have panicked and ran into traffic due to a sudden wasp near my ear.
^^^^ This.
Folk who haven't encountered phobias cannot begin to understand what it's like and they are usually the ones who proffer "get over it" commentary.
Empathy, it's a good thing and it costs nothing.

It's often greatly misunderstood as well. I have an empathy for Original Poster and and great sense of compassion. I am a very compassionate person in general but as well I will tell my sometimes very bitter and utterly honest opinion for its own good and positive benefits. People tend to confuse or perhaps are unable to comprehend two sides.
If i do present my opinion and insight It does not mean I lack empathy for particular being. Written messages will be be misunderstood. It is inevitable.

It doesn't with my husband anyway. He can cuss a blue streak using the word but let one show itself and well, I get called.

How unusual. It's typically women afraid of spiders and men afraid of snakes.
Not just spiders, all insects! Snakes too. And yeah, some critters have an "better stay away, it might be venomous/poisonous/disease-carrier" signal coded into our instincts...DocFrost72 wrote: »Fact: most people dislike spiders. The new.... Chapter. I know Spiders are a part of the lore and whatnot - which is fine, but for someone (me) that's pretty.. challenging. By now I haven't done any of the areas that contains spiders, I've always had a friend / guildie come and kill every spider for me. Hihihihih.
So, I was wondering, is there a chance someone can make an Add-On / Or Devs can make a toggle-filter, that spawns black squares(or whatever non-spider-thing) when there's a monster with the shape of a Spider, or with the "Spider" in it's name?
It would sure help me out a lot \o/
I honestly don't care if I end up with 50 black squares on my screen. I just can't stand watching spiders..
//Cheers, Liebs. (This is actually a serious(!) request)
erm..... SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's just pixels....
no spiders are involved.

Genuine question, what is it like staying in a country where the wildlife wants to kill you at every God damn opportunity?

Thank you for not posting a picture of them in a thread about helping people with arachnophbia. I can google them if I want to look at them.
*googles*
Those are impressive. I see where they get the "giant crab spider" nickname. I wouldn't want to stumble across one of those in my house! But I'm sure they do a good job in their own ecological niche, which is what I tell myself when I'm resisting the urge to squash their much, much smaller North American cousins.
