I'm reminded there are no children in the game when someone makes a thread about it.

It's not something I notice when I'm playing.

Agreed. I have 4 and they make it impossible to become immersed in any game.

    “Daddy! I want this...”

“Daddy! Pay attention to me so I don’t become a high school dropout!”

    So annoying.

Pretty much this. Why waste resources on things that are just going to be ignored? The fact that people don't even acknowledge this 'break' in 'immersion' should tell you, OP, that it's a trivial thing to ask. If you want kids in a game, play Skyrim or something.

This has always bothered me about ESO. Why are there no children? Other arguments about them being abused or killed can be solved by making them invincible just like town guards. I find it a huge break in immersion to wander these large zones and cities and not ever see a single child.

Guess you've never played Skyrim huh?

    No? Well count your blessings.

Judging by the frequency with which this topic is raised, there seem to be an awful lot of gamers concerned if there aren't children in their games. I honestly can't say that it has ever bothered me. My sense of immersion in WoW, for example, isn't enhanced by the kids that run around in Stormwind or who have lost something under the water in Redridge Mountains.

A realistic population absolutely enhances immersion.

In the Witcher 3, children playing and singing and bumping into you as they aimlessly run around is part of what made that world feel so alive. That along with the poor farmers, the dock workers, the prostitutes, the drunken soldiers, the priests, and the elites. It all came together to create a living, breathing world.

i hope we never see children in eso.
hated them in skyrim and would hate them in eso just the same.

...unless they were MY Nord Dovhakin's kids. All six of them were so well behaved. Absolute pearls compared to those 3 obnoxious, Imperial royal turds up in Dragon's reach.

My PC's most diligent was Sophie. Never could my PC ask for a more insightful daughter. Especially after he came across her performing the Black Sacrament. As DB Master, he plans on having her officially join the order when she's a little older. But for now, she needs to practice with all those deadly, jarred rood infused daedric daggers he keeps gifting her. So that she will make him proud the day she sends Braith's soul to meet Sithis.

And then there is his precious Lucia. Her hard life as a pauper and orphan on the streets are completely forgotten. She's always the first one to greet him whenever he gets home. And the one who'll chase him around the house until he runs out of stamina so she can demand money. At which point, my winded TG Master resignedly hands over all his gold (which is usually some 2000+ septims worth). Lucia will make an excellent TG member when she grows up. She certainly has the street smarts for it

No matter what anyone says, I could never pass up on Lucia or Sophie. No matter how many kids I chose to adopt in my games.

That being said, kids would seem a bit awkward and out of place in ESO towns, villages and cities. But is even more awkward being able to have a spouse--yet not have children? To enjoy the realism of keeping a variety of pets from domesticated dogs/horses to the exotic daedra Clannfear cooped up in your tiny tavern/inn apt room---yet not have at least one kid living there?

IMO, best solution would be to be able to adopt kids, but restricting them to your homes and residential properties (like Skyrim). So they'd never leave your residences and can't follow you everywhere.

Maybe... The NPCs of Tamriel heard a rumor that Player Characters were coming (gasp!) and hid all their kids in secret cellar dungeons? :p;)

    On a more serious note...
Yes, it is somewhat grating that we realize sooner or later that what is missing in the cities are those annoying kids. And outhouses. Also bathtubs.

Personally I don't really care for kids in any incarnation, but I would have liked to see some in ESO, just to populate the "safe zones" and make them feel more... alive.
They could have made them involvnerable, or auto-dodging every attempt to attack them while yelling for the guard since some people always bring that point up, but it would heve been good to have those small immersive details in the game.

Also, some quests -clearly- were written for kid NPCs. I mean, the "My mom still treats me like a little bow despite me bing a fully grown man" shtick can work that one time in Koeglin village, but when you see the next "grown man" incapable of finding his way back twenty paces past some snakes, or have another traumatied by meeting her first undead... well, then you always feel a little pang of immersion cracking.

Dunmer are superior because they have the only bathtub in the game besides a few Redgaurd swimming pools. As for outhouses, I dunno about you, but I keep finding these. Kari really doesn't appreciate me bringing them back to the Thieves Guild Refuge for some reason.

What bothers me is how desperate some people are for kids in Eso.
In would be worth looking into ppl that keep asking for that. Small possibility to protect kids from predators. Totally worth it

I think it creates a bit of an opportunity though if you have them grow up eventually in later builds of the game- Anduin being an example (whether you like him or not). It is a good point too- I would assume they'd be immune to damage to avoid ratings issues (as they are in previous Elder Scroll games I think?), so I don't see any reason not to have them as part of the ambiance, especially for a game series as detailed and with as much attention to ambiance and creating a believable world as this IP has always been.

Still, it's not a huge deal not having any, hardly game changing.

There are children but they are kept hidden away on a different continent to protect them from the rampaging adventurers who would torture and kill them just because they are sarcastic little snots. Face it, the writers at Betheesda/Zenimax do not know how to write children that are engaging and acceptable. Judging from the voicing in Skyrim they also have a tin ear when auditioning child actors. Best they stay hidden away, I think. I kind of wish they would send the sheep over there. it's kind of sad to see a field full of white lumps of wool.

It IS immersion breaking that there are no children in cities and towns and I suspect the REAL reason for it is because no one wanted to take the time and pay the money to design children of all the different races. Their exclusion is simply a cost cutter. That said, in the previous TES games the children WERE mostly awful and annoying to the point I understood why the mod that lets you kill them is so popular. However, I would be all for them taking some of the sweet gamble box cash and adding them to the game as long as they DON'T make them rage inducing. It's bad enough to have unkillable guards lipping off to me all the darn time... having a bunch of snot nosed brats doing it would be doubly annoying.

In a world were one misstep with a mudcrab can end in death, I'd say people tucking their children away in safety is both immersive and lore-friendly.

I don't want side quests where i have to go find little Billy because he was playing near the wayshrine and accidentally ended up in another realm...

Not hate. It's looking out for their well being, actually.

If they implemented children in game, they'd be obligate to turn off immovable and turn on mount collision, you know, to teach the little ones to look both ways?
