Problems players in other countries have are irrelevant to the topic, which is that Australians are being routinely over-charged by ZoS/Bethesda.
You know, you are absolutely right. If people in say Eastern European or Mediterranean countries have to pay an entire weeks wages or more for what cost most of us from English speaking countries less than half a days wages, that's completely irrelevant.
Lets talk about YOUR problems: Using $40US
AUS pays $51.62
VAT(10%):$5.16
Total:$56.78
Your price:$59.95
Difference: $3.17 AUS. Is $3.17 going to break you? If it is you have far more pressing issues than the cost of a game's xpack.
FYI the difference covers the fluctuations in the market. It will cost the same price whether the US dollar is worth $1.29 AUD, $1.09 AUD, or $1.49 AUD. Its likely based on a 5 year market trend of the exchange rates. At the peak exchange rate in the last 5 years, in which Aussies pay the most for stuff based in US currency, you would pay about $65 with a VAT. The AUD has been trending upwards for at least the last 5 years. It use to match the US almost dollar for dollar a few years ago.

And that difference could be transfer/conversion fees charged by banks.
Summerset Digital Collector's Edition $104.95 NZD
Summerset Digital Standard Edition $69.95 NZD
Summerset Digital Collector's Edition Upgrade $69.95 NZD
Summerset Digital Upgrade $54.95 NZD
I usually put the extra cost down to shipping...obviously the delivery elves in the internet pipes need to get paid. Or something.

One reason physical items traditionally cost more here is because of the long shipping distances. This is known locally as the "Australia tax", ie the price you pay for living a long way from anywhere. However, that's not as true as it was thanks to things like air freight and the shift in the world economy towards Asia, but either way it should be irrelevant to digital items. The price is charged to the local currency and you're whinging that you're NOT paying in USD, where you would be paying an extra $25??? Get over yourself you troll
WTF are you smoking? I laid the numbers out clearly. Don't abuse me because you have no clue how exchange rates work.

$40 is probably a snap buy for me $50 I am going to have to see a bit more of it before I decide. I hope its a bit more lively than morrowind/vvaadenfel.
At least you CAN drive across the border and potentially get things cheaper - you have a choice. We don't have a choice.Wreuntzylla wrote: »LittlePinkDot wrote: »Bonzodog01 wrote: »Meanwhile in UK (on XBox Console) -

Now THAT is a real rip off
But has anyone seen the prices for Canada? I havent logged on yet today. But im pretty sure Canadians get ripped off the worst.
Thats why we shop across the border. Or order things online to a warehouse/ house across the border then go pick it up and pay 5$ to whoever owns the warehouse/ house
Sooooo... your method of protest is to violate Canadian law?

Why did you include 10% "VAT"? Bethesda's web site says nothing about any added taxes, which (for the third time) it is required by law to make explicit. Either way, a ripoff is wrong so stop trying to pretend it's acceptable. It isn't.

Ive determined that you are probably one of those people that will argue with a cashier over $0.17 for 5 minutes while the line/queue backs up behind you. Finally the person behind you will pay the cashier the disputed amount. But that wont be good enough for you because its the principle. So you will continue to inconvenience many people behind who have far far better things to do, while you demand to see the manager.
It is pointless to continue. Read the TOS, section 5A(i). Ill even post it, in part, for you: "If You reside in North America, South America, or Asia (including Australia and New Zealand but excluding India) and purchase Services from ZeniMax, then You must pay fees using the payment methods made available by ZeniMax for the particular Service"
Every price issue between the advertised price and the total can pretty much be covered by the bolded part. In reality, you see the total before you are charged. If you dont like the total, dont purchase. There is absolutely no reason to create a multi page thread about it. AND FYI, as an American i dont pay $40 either. I also have "fees" added to my price. I think its around $42 or $43 if i remember.

Summerset Digital Standard Edition $59.95 AUD
Summerset Digital Collector's Edition Upgrade $59.95 AUD
Summerset Digital Upgrade $44.95 AUD
What Australians should pay if ZoS/Bethesda used a realistic exchange rate (0.75 used here even though it is 0.78 in reality):

Nope. It's a digital product being purchased from an overseas web site so no tariff could be applied even they existed on these types of products.Lets see there are;
- Tariffs
Nope. For the fourth time, if Bethesda are collecting GST they are obliged by law to make that explicit but there's no mention of added taxes anywhere.[*] Australian Goods and Services Tax
So Bethesda charge Australians more because of EB Games?[*] Distribution costs(yes these apply to digital copies as well because many retailers will refuse to carry physical copies of a game if the digital version is cheaper)
Nope. Now you're just making *** up.[*] Legal costs associated with dealing with Australia's Nanny State
Nope.I could go on, but really I think the point is made.

Interesting. The web site says pricing is determined by the country of registration, which is why it has always shown prices to me in AUD. I checked my credit card statements and Morrowind was charged in AUD. It must think you're in America.

Yup, I live in Australia. Yup, I have lag-4-daze but...
I have awesome beaches, fantastic beer, good weather (and I live in Melbourne), pretty girls, decent wages, low crime rate.
All in all, I'll happily take my annoying lag and over priced video games that I enjoy over living somewhere else.
