just wanted to ask if there are any ongoing efforts to overhaul the game client or the game engine. I am currently playing on a next to high end pc (i7@4,5GHZ, GTX1070, 16GB Corsair, quality manufacturer components (ASUS), etc.) and since i upgraded to windows10 (because it was said to deliver slightly better gaming performance) I don't get more than 10 fps during trials. I have spent hours of tuning the usersettings.ini and the nvidia driver settings, nothing helps. I have reinstalled the game multiple times, the windows installation was a clean installation.

We all know that ESO's game engine is a total unoptimized mess and this problem must be adressed... There is no excuse that games, that are 10 times more demanding, run fluently at 60fps while this rather old game runs at 10-24 fps in trials or pvp on lowest! settings while not even using more than 40% of my available hardware ressources. This game is no fun this way.

P.S.: Tested it with all addons deactivated (even uninstalled) - just a slight difference of 3-5fps.

Please get those problems sorted out, I cannot pay a subscription for a game that is not properly playable.

    It being a strictly online game has some to do with that as well though. I don't have quite as good a set-up power wise as you do and I never dip below 25 fps in trials and It's been quite some time since I've dropped that low in Cyrodiil as well. I think way more variables are involved here than that. My game doesn't run that poorly at all.

    No, that pretty close to high end. 1070 is the can run anything well except the most taxing, its not a low budget card in the least. I'd say 1080 is high end and ti is enthusiast level. Anything higher is work machine useful. The CPU exactly I don't know, but if its @4.5 and i7 its one of the better ones. And 16gb is high enough for most.

    hmmm... with a titan x i get around 100fps everywhere.

    but i think the main issue is ping.... and that is down to your ip.

    The Video Card doesn't matter in ESO, even a 1070 is way overkill for ESO. CPU is the bottleneck, per core performance, to be precise. But discussions like these dont make sense at all, because the game does not even use my ressources 100% and other (WAY more demanding) games run fluently. Concerning MMOs in general: There is enough MMOs that manage to sustain high fps if u got decent gear. Ping btw. causes ability delay and desync phenomena like 'teleport moving', rubberbanding, etc. - I have no such problems, it's all about fps and stuttering.

    That was the case for me as well while I was using Windows7. After the update my fps rate has been quartered with really severe drops down to 7fps (all settings on minimum!!!) during combat. Out of combat my fps idles between 70 to 110, I tested it with addons enabled and addon disabled. All these indicators point to the game engine, I can easily visit crowded towns on extreme settings (overtuned ultra by a modified usersettings.ini) without droping lower than 45fps. As soon as group combat starts, the game becomes a diashow since windows10, though.

    the big thing not mentioned here was hard drive. i have an ssd, a sata1 garbage drive and a green sata3 drive. They all perform very differently. i also run my steam games off a USB3 external drive.

    sata1 drive - if i unzip something on it while downloading nvidia drivers, it will slow the download. the drive is fine otherwise for normal stuff, but i dont game off it
    the green drive - little better (more better before win10 1709 - that really messed with power management) - a tad slower than a non green drive but runs ok
    ssd - this is what i run eso on. its way faster than both the other two combined
    usb3 external: i dont run eso off this but i do run many games and while they run fine, they would run a lot better internally. Its noticeable with loading times.

    my next pc will have an nvme drive - you dont have a high end pc without one of these. 6x the read speed of an ssd.

    what hard drive are you using?

    Improving performance would require remaking the entire game engine, which basically amounts to making a whole new game. Not going to happen.

    Which i7? That naming scheme goes back 8 generations so it could be an old CPU and still be an i7.

    What does your User Settings file look like? Specifically "SET MaxCoresToUse", "SET RequestedNumbJobThreads" and "SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads"?

    Have you disabled CPU core parking?

    Have you set your performance plan to High Performance?

    What are your video settings set as?

    I have ESO installed on a SSD.

    i7 7700k (game ran better on an overclocked i5 3570k!)

    I have done all of it, I have even invested hours of trying and switching settings around:

    cores: tried 1 to 8, nothing happens
    workerThreads=0
    jobThreads=0 (tested with leaving one of both at 1)
    smoothingFrames=0
    my cores are unparked and energy plan is set to high performance
    My video settings are all set to low except for post filtering, which is set to high but has zero impact on performance.

    There is no way of further improving performance on my side, other games run at 60fps, MMOs among them. According to guild mates who have even better PCs and still get fps drops from 200 to 20 in trials, it must be the engine. There are and have been countless threads about low fps on top gear on this forum and on reddit since beta.

    You shouldn't have to have the best computer out to run this game. Actually, you should be able to run this game perfectly fine with whatever minimal specs they give. I mean its already what almost 4 years old? The best computer 4 years ago isnt the best today. Either way they are never going to fix the servers. I've said it before and ill say it again, the only respsonses we will get from ZOS about their poor servers are; We are actively working on improving the servers OR check with your ISP.

    Other than that we wont get any real info. This leads me to believe it will never be resolved. I play this game mainly on xbox. But i also play it on PC. About 2 years ago i used to play on xbox, with my original xbox one, with 15 mbs download and 3-4 mbs upload. And ill tell you this game ran GREAT. I had no issues. Then when things started to get worse i bought a new modem (i forget how much it was) and a router for a couple hundred bucks and now i get 120 down/10 up.. And now it runs terrible. I cant PVP on either platform without lag. I also have a brand new xbox one S ( i didnt get the X because everyone i talked to said they still have the same issues with the X as they did with older xbox systems )..

    I play a bunch of different games and a few mmos and never have any issues. The tera beta on xbox last week ran better than eso does. The people who say this isnt a server or ESO issue are simply wrong or they dont play competitive pvp. People still lag in PVE but its usually not as bad ... I have talked to hundreds of people in game and 99% of the time they are in the same boat. I know many people who swap to PC from xbox hoping its better (like i did) only to be disappointed that its only slightly better in some areas. Pvp might as well not exist, 75% of the time, because nothing i do matters.. Especially during prime time, and vicec is unplayable at any time when its pop locked.. I just dont think this ever gets fixed. I hope the devs prove me wrong. I truly do.

    But the one thing i can tell is that, no matter where it is, the game lags BAD when you're in a popular zone or have a lot of players around. Cyrodil. Capitol cities (for undaunted dailies and where people duel). Keep sieges. That is where its the worst. Ive asked before and ill ask again; What does it say about a game where, for the last couple years, the performance has only gotten worse. Drastically worse. One tamriel, to morrowind, to now. Never better, always worse. @ZOS_GinaBruno

    I enjoy playing Trials with 3 FPS, huge lags in vMA also. You need to restart the client after 2 hours max or the lag makes the game unplayable.

    I'm with i7 6700 (non-k), 1070, 16GB RAM, SSD and I know the problem. It is the game, not the PC. So all we can do is lower graphics, turn off add-ons and hope ZOS can do something.

    Sorry I won't spend some more grands to run this game better because it's the game. Textures are ugly even though the game looks beautiful.
