  You'll be fine. Plenty of opportunities to farm mats in the beginning and to get a decent set going early on without much fear of dying (Unless you want to go to the pvp zone to farm ....then all bets are off )

  I would say this though ...don't worry about spending points in the crafting end of things until you get a feel for the game. In Beta I was able to keep my items up to date (level) without spending any points in the crafting areas.

  You also can't really sell anything except to vendors which probably is no more lucrative than just selling the Mats.

  Do the starter island. Easy mobs, nice quests and loads upon loads of mats and chests. Research items and break some down. Researching works like. You have an item with +5 health lets say. Go to the crafting station of choice and goto the research tab, select the item (Will say Researchable) and select it and in 6 hours or so the trail of +5 health will be learned. Break items down and you can get rarer items used for improving say white gear to green and so on.
  
  My best advice if starting a new character is to loot everything in Coldharbour, you should get enough gear to last till level 5 and also recipes (Food&Drink are useful) and you should get atleast 30 lockpick and in most chests when out in the mainland or start islands will have green or above items that can be researched or broken down.
  
  Relax, make mistakes and as said in the old forums: Look in the mirror and if you are smiling then you are playing the game correctly!

  And if you stick them with the pointy rusty end itll be even better lol. I found the crafting pretty straight forward and easy. Depending on what type of armor you want and weapons you want i would say invest alittle in the skills that make it easier to spot items. but thats just me. good luck and good hunting

  Everyone has the ability to craft weapons and armor for levels 1-15 right off the bat. All you need is the materials and the appropriate mineral for your racials.
  
  For example, if your character is a Khajiit, to craft a sword, you need iron ingots and a single moonstone. If you're a Nord, you need a single piece of nickel. Each race has its own mineral.
  
  To get iron ingots, mine iron ore or deconstruct iron weapons/armor. When you get 10 pieces of ore, refine them into ingots at a blacksmith's station. The number of ingots you use when you craft something determines the level of the resulting item.
  
  Woodworking and the Clothier professions work the same way, with their own materials.
  
  To get the style minerals, loot them from chests/mobs, from deconstructing armor and weapons you get as loot, or (worst alternative) buy them from crafting merchants.
  
  A sword that you craft always sells for more than the sell-cost of the materials you use.
  
  Tamriel Foundry has some good crafting basics videos, check them out.

  @Bravo6ep, one of the fastest ways to make a little gold early in the game (especially to buy that extremely important first bag-size upgrade) is to do a lap or two around your starter island farming up all of the iron ore, raw maple, and raw jute you can get your hands on. The nodes respawn really fast and the mats only take up 3 bag slots that stack to 100. When your stacks are nearly full, sell those mats to a vendor for a couple hundred quick gold.
  
  You could farm up herbs, runes, and food ingredients too, but their types are far more varied and will fill your bags very quickly.

  One thing I like about ESO is how easy it is to navigate without aggroing and training every mob in the land. You are usually warned if you get too close to a mob, and there is usually plenty of room between them.
  
  I saw lots of wood and iron nodes, tons of plants. You might have to do a little combat to get leather, but wolfs are easy to kill, and you can get leather from deers and sheeps with zero risk. It will go faster for you if you kill stuff, but I don't think it's a requirement at all. Certainly not at the early levels.

  I really didn't have a hard time with survivability in beta. I found a friend and got up to 8th level before I died, and then it was probably my fault for doing something I pretty much knew was a bad idea. By that time I had accumulated enough gold and materials to craft some very decent armor. My friend though totally when with the farming iron approach to build his armor while still on the starter island. I guess it's all up to your style and desires, which is about the best way a game can be.

  You can get nodes fairly easy if you move around carefully. And to die you have to get into a situation where you either pull too many mobs, go afk somewhere you shouldn't, or try to kill something you're not ready for. At level 9 I could solo individual level 15 mobs.

  My tip : all the gear I find, I deconstruct it at crafting stations, which gives me enough materials to craft enough armor as I go up levels (you can freely make armor for your level and beyond, it just cost more materials). You can also add glyphs to your gear, which help a lot, for a reasonable price at some merchants (or you can craft them from runes you find in the wild).
  
  With basic powers, you can defeat almost all mobs if you understand the basic moves, such as blocking great attacks and dodging the obvious red zones.
  
  You can still die once in a while, but not often.
