Outfit system issue: Converted gear

So either I am missing something (likely) or you can no longer convert gear to Imperial and dye it for free? Now you MUST? use the outfit system and thus pay?

Converters are part of the outfit system.
No charge to apply converter styles.
Dyes are a separate game feature from the converters.

What does that mean? Can we still convert gear, or do we have to waste an outfit slot?

You cannot convert the gear itself. However if you use a style that you could previously convert to (Morag Tong and Imperial) in your outfit, that style will not cost you any gold to use. Hopefully this helps.

From the patch notes:

Converting

"Convert to Imperial" and "Convert to Morag Tong" are no longer used from the inventory on specific items, and are instead incorporated into the Outfit System.

If you possess these collectibles, the Imperial and Morag Tong Outfit Styles are automatically available, and do not cost gold to apply to your Outfits. This means anyone with these account upgrades can choose to make any Outfit slot on any character appear in the Morag Tong or Imperial style free of cost, without actually modifying the item itself.

Well yes you have to use an outfit slot, but this is how I look at it:

If you were going to convert a specific piece of gear to Imperial, for example, then obviously you'd want to see it and wouldn't cover up that slot with your outfit anyway. With the conversion now free in the outfit system it's actually more flexible. Let's say you really like the look of Imperial staves. Well then all you have to do is make the staves slot on your outfit Imperial and then bam, no matter which staff you equip or change to they will all look imperial without you having to right click on them and pick "convert".

This way you can always have the look you want, no matter what new gear you find or equip. You can also change the appearance of set and named gear, something you couldn't do before with the old conversion method.

You can change outfit components. And it won't cost you to change to that style or remove it.

I'm not seeing how you waste the slot. If you swap gear, it will still show that style.
