I thought they always loaded in your home when you logged them out in a place you owned?

Hrm not for me after the last patch.

It would load me in the last visited wayshrine.

Maybe they just fixed a bug.

    But I like it :)

    BTW I'm Xbox guys

Ah! I'm on PC and haven't experienced that bug. Glad it is fixed for you, though.

I'm on XB and NEVER experienced that bug, even on the original XB One, which had many loading issues for me - lots of memory leaks! My characters have ALWAYS loaded where I've left them, which has almost always been in one of my houses, since Homestead.

I actually found out it was something I was doing.

Example:. If I were to Port into Cyrodiil from house. Then log out while in Cyrodiil, when I re-log in, my character, he's standing outside the house.

Or like, if a BG fails to load. Then I'll find out myself outside my house.

But it's something I was doing

Houses are 'Instanced' which means ESO does not 'record' you 'Game World' location as being there since it is not part of the main game world.

Ok... so what does that mean and why do you 'sometimes' not respawn back into your house.

The 'Only' time you can expect to respawn back in your home after logging out is if you log out while you are currently in your house... and then it is sill not guaranteed because ESO is not in full control of the 'Instance' information about your house.

However, if anything happens to the 'Instanced' data after you log out you will end up respawning to you last known 'Game World' location. That is how ESO recovers from the lost data, they use the last 'safe' 'World Server' data they recorded for you.

So... how can your 'instanced' data be lost... that kind of depend on how ESO instances.

Most likely they instance homes using 'Your' hardware... so if your machine stores some kind of minimal instance data in a file somewhere. If anything happens to that file... ESO will fall back to logging you on at your last know world location.

After a patch that alters something about instances 'like adding storage boxes' it is likely that the format of the 'instance' file will change and 'older' version of the file will no longer be valid... so ESO will have to fall back to logging you into your last known world location. But once you go back to your house... you will generate a new 'instance' file with a new good format.

It is also possible that ESO set instance files to 'expire' after a set timeframe... which means if you log out for a significant amount of time the 'instance' file may expire... and ESO will fall back to logging you on at your last known world location.

Does any of this sound like what you are experiencing?

    SIDE NOTE:

ESO may instance homes on 'dedicated' servers but I think that is highly unlikely due to the expenses involved especially for the durations machines would have to be 'reserved' for 'Homes'.

If they do that... any time you an 'instanced' server is 'reclaimed' all positional data would be lost and ESO would have to fall back to loading in at your last known 'World' location. In that case you ability to log back into your home would be basically 'random' and it would probably almost never work unless you logged out then logged back in within a couple of minutes at best.
