[Beating Semi-Conscious Horse] Furnishing Limit and the Crown Store

Wanted to show how much I spend in the Crown Store through pictures.

I am not starting any more projects and perhaps done buying properties because of the level of frustration the cap brings.

Going to break it up into sections and point out crown store creations. The following are 'big picture' images before I address detail.

All of the salvage plates are crown store items.

Salvage plates, Redguard fencing, Ayeleid bookshelves and Hagia Sophia (Clockwork Gazebo, Copper and Basalt x5) are all crown store bought.

It has three levels and a basement.

First Level (and outside of basement).

Almost everything here is crown bought.

In the center (gold colored) area I originally had a desk and bookshelf from each culture/race, with books, scrolls, etc. Alexander's library in Tamriel, it was really cool looking. I had to remove them all due to the cap.

    Second and Third Levels

The purpose of the shelves is to add thickness to the platform. Looks horrible wafer thin. which you can see when viewing the second level. Ran out of spaces to cover the book showing parts. Might have gone on and walled the whole thing in.

    kLZYX8G.jpg

Pretty much everything but the Argonian tile is from the crown store. The inlay effect seen on the ceiling of the second level and floor of the top level is made by leaving a space between tiles and inserting copper plates.

    Basement and Front

Here we have voucher bought attunement stations. Ayelid gates are from the store.

    mKqrON4.jpg

In the front, the octagons are upside down imperial, ayelid gates uses as walkway, dwarven altars merged to form the stairs,

    C2FlssC.jpg

So, if not clear... this is an attempt to convince ZoS through dollars. Even 300-400 slots would let me furnish the place up. If the Crown Store ever sees some decent stair sections added, I'll buy those immediately, even without the extra added space. Although alot of the plating was installed just to take the screenshots, some of it serves as ramping between levels. Ugggg...llllyyyyyy....

Thanks to the Divine Design Alliance (NA/PC) for introducing me to the Dreloth Tomb, some of the crafted pieces are made from recipes I farmed in the tomb. And for just being a great, supportive bunch whose chatter is fun to read.

Wow! That's a lot of work! Great job!

Not only does it illustrate the need for more slots, but also the need for better building materials. And, better building materials could alleviate some of the designer woes, as it would free up more slots for other things.

Not sure if slot increases will happen, but better building materials would certainly help all the builders. For me, more slots would be better as I don't do much building, but I'd like to be able to fully decorate both the interior and exterior of a home. My Amaya Lake Lodge is nearly full and I haven't done anything with the outside except remove ALL the rocks and put out a statue and fountain.

There are even a few things I've removed in the interior to add better lighting and other things that have become available that I wanted to add to my workshop.

First.... WOW... This is really cool, you did an amazing job.

Second... it is obvious why you have 'Furniture Slot' issue... And unfortunately ESO Can't 'Fix' that.

I have posted several times on that topic and I won't go into the details because it just gets people arguing over something that is obvious but they just don't want to believe... and what I really want to do here is encourage you to continue being creative.

    1. ) Accept that either for technical reasons or ESO's hidden evil agenda they are not going to increase the Furniture cap by any kind of significant amount.
2.) Then ask yourself the following questions:

    a. ) Should 'Limitations' stop 'You' from being creative?
    b. ) Do you enjoy building these structures?

If you want to create these things and have fun doing it... don't stop just to try to make a point to ESO. You would only be punishing yourself.

Try working with a 'smaller' scope... see what you could do with the smaller houses.

I know they have even smaller slot limits...
and ESO probably could give you the same number of slots no mater what size the 'house' is...
    but they probably won't...
that is a 'sale' strategy not a technical issue.

The point here is to give yourself a different kind of challenge... that costs less in game.

Take a look at some of the non standard furniture items in the game and see how you can repurpose them to reduce the 'blocks' you need to use.

I took one of the 'Huge' statures and turn it upside down so I could use the base of the statures as flat round stone floor for a small arena area...
That took 1 slot for the entire floor.

Sale strategy and a technical issue. Storage memory is a technical issue. You are buying server memory to ZoS. ESO+ gets double item limit. Why? Money= memory

I am not even going to try to explain why this is a technical issue here since no one is willing to accept logic for this issue.

You either 'accept' that this is a technical issue caused by 'Player' hardware limitations due to the way houses are 'Instanced' and the limits of 'Minimal Player Hardware' requirements for 'Video Cards' or you don't.

I don't care what you believe nor am I going to try to convince you other wise.

If you don't want to believe it is a combination of technical limitations and sales strategies to ensure 'bigger' houses have 'more value', then lets just say ESO is evil and hates making furniture or supporting 'Housing' systems.

Either way the likely hood of ESO significantly increasing your Housing Furniture slots is 'slim to none'....

So... with that in mind back to my actual point.

This guy (@Wreuntzylla) is obviously a talented designer and must enjoy creating these cool structures...

why stop that if he actually enjoys it....

I am not saying he should continue to spend money on new houses... after all if you 'want' any kind of change the best way to get it is to vote with your dollar not just complaining.

But he can still do the stuff he enjoys without giving ESO more Crowns.

I don't see how. You already purchased the crowns, which are a leased currency with no monetary value. Those crowns would be spent on something whether or not the furnishing limit is increased.

I didn't take their prior housing contest to be an endorsement of freeform building as a core feature of the system. Just a challenge to see what could be creatively made within the limit.

And while this is creative building, I don't think anything in this thread provides a compelling argument to raise the furnishing caps. One could even use it to argue why caps shouldn't be raised.

First I am on your side... But...

    Crowns do have value...

Yes, if you have a subscription they give you back your subscription money in the form of crowns...

So to a player with a subscription who never buys crowns other ways, they may seem to have no value. Since you would have already received your 'moneys' worth from your subscription and this is just Funny Money for you to spend on the side.

But... some players who don't have subscription still buy crowns... I have a subscription and still spent about 100$ additional dollars on crowns this year.

Cowns are part of ESO's revenue stream and it lets them see how much money they are making from all income sources.

Because they 'know' how much money they are making from subscriptions, they can even differentiate how much people are 'spending' outside of their subscription model.

I guarantee Crowns are not 'Funny Money' to ESO.

So, the principal of voting with your dollars can still apply, even if it is just in how you spend your 'Subscription' crowns.

'What' you spend your crowns on lets ESO know where player interests are directed.

Yep, it is not just a technical issue.. there are other factors involved... and I said it was not just a technical issue... and I said that there is no technical reason smaller houses should not be able to have the 'Large House'.

I also don't care if you believe their are technical limitations to how many object can be displayed or that there is a difference if the house is running instanced on 'your' hardware or running from a dedicated server or the main game server.

It is clear this is a 'hot button' topic where logic and reason do not apply.

So lets just try to agree on this... ESO is not going to significantly increase the furniture limits in house any time soon.

It does not matter why... just that it is not going to happen.

So the question is... should you 'quit' doing something you enjoy because of that or should you keep doing the thing you enjoy with knowledge of the existing limitation... even if they are disappointing.

Ah, reminds me I need to show a clear view of the rest of the island. I had to remove every tree, bush, rock, etc.

I do agree that a wider variety would help. One large platform piece could save 40-60 spaces. However, one of the triumph of the ESO housing system is that people can make things that don't exist in the game. I have posted before that if they added a system that allowed you to freeze items, that would be a good solution. In other words, trace the exposed surfaces of the multiple object construct to create a single item that has a small fraction of the surface area of the multiple objects. CAD can do it, would not seem to difficult to provide that functionality in the game.

I should have repeated my comment from another thread. I have reworked this structure many times now, replacing the materials I want to use (for a particular look) with materials that I have to use (with a look I didn't envision) to reduce the number of slots consumed. For example, the top floor used to be an actual building, but the salvage plates I used for the copper roof used too many slots.

Not surprisingly, the better materials are crown store centric. The basement roof/first floor walkway used to be a series of merged, upside down statue bases that were sold on the luxury vendor. I bought over 40 of the things. It makes a wonderful *dark* brick path. Due to the item limit, I had to buy the redguard wall sections from the Crown store and rip out the statue bases.

My pessimistic side thinks we will never get an increased item limit because ZoS makes items that are best suited to lower your item count crown-store only. I don't have a beef with that PROVIDED that there is a wider variety of choices. I get that most people like the redguard architecture, but how bout some love for other cultures???

I am also a die hard modifier (what you call 'repurposing'). For example, I use the redguard wall sections I mentioned above as flooring. As another example, all of the octagons you see in the entryway are upside down altars. Unfortunately, most of the large items that were released with the housing update have false bottoms. If the altars had real bottoms, I would have merged them with a bunch more to entirely floor the bottom level. As it is, I am going to have to remove them because I had to embed solid material to make a real bottom. Some of my friends still fall through near the edges. Another example of false bottoms is the Dwarven altars. I was very excited when I first saw them, immediately bought one off the crown store, but they also have a false bottom. The surface area of the bottoms of those altars is larger than any building material currently available, but are completely useless as a building material (except as stairs).

The new releases typically have solid bottoms, such as the Redguard wells sold recently on the luxury vendor. It's clear that they are making an effort, but they have not gone back to fix the original items. There are many similar quirks they haven't fixed. If you bought any of the achievement constellation tiles, you know that if you flip them over they are essentially invisible except for an outline, but the new set recently released on the luxury vendor are properly opaque on both sides.

I'm hearing Hey big Spender playing in the backround. Was there some dark elf dancing going on around that throne?

Anyhow, pity about the item limits. Maybe it is technical, probably. They could certainly allow us more pets, mounts, assistants, and trophies though. Limit is hella low on mounts etc. especially given folks buy pretty much all of them in crown store. It's a big reason not to buy more pets, mounts, and assistants. It is not like you can place them anyway.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.
