Probably not attended, but while dead you able to change out skills even though group is in admist of combat. Only works on active bar though.

Or maybe that was intended, since the Boss, and/or other NPCs, and/or MoBs might be "immune" to one or more skills which are currently equipped on the active ability bar. Or they might be "immune" to the type of damage inflicted by the weapon which your character has been using, and/or by its enchantment.

But you are probably correct, because a character cannot equip another weapon or change an ability during combat while alive. That is one reason that a character should equip a different type of weapon(s) and other skills on their secondary ability bar.

In my experience, the Death Recap will almost always include a note if one or more specific hostile(s) that your character targeted are "immune" to an ability which your dead character used. Such a note might instead disclose that they are "immune" to the damage which the weapon does (e.g., a Frost Staff, or an Inferno Staff), or are "immune" to the damage which the weapon's enchantment inflicts.

Before reading your disclosure, I had always thought that the post mortem note about their immunity was uselful to know only for future fights. Although, it also implies that the player should swap the active bar to the other, at least if it does not have that ability or weapon, after the character is resurrected.

The post mortem "by the way, the target was immune" note really stinks when the hostile(s) are "immune" to the damage inflicted by a Light or Heavy Attack with the weapon which the character was using. Usually, the damage is significantly reduced (e.g., to 25%) instead of being none at all. That is also usually true when a target is "immune" to the damage inflicted by a weapon's enchantment.

When those events occur, maybe we should attempt to equip another weapon on the active bar, before the character is resurrected. Or, perhaps, if the character has one in the Bags, attempt to use a Glyph to apply a different enchantment to the weapon which the character has equipped. ....

Yeah... you could for example swap out a skill say "bone shield" for say "purge" that you could of forget to have equiped for a fight like vCOS final boss.

In fact you used to be able to switch out skill even while alive... if you timed it right. But this was fixed, so it's expected that this death skill swap would follow suit.
