Stam DK ability discussion (PvP)

Looking at all classes together, I feel as if stam DK's fall short for open world for a few reasons:
  • Sustain changes with Morrowind really hurt DK's, battle roar and helping hands are now set amounts which don't help as much as I (personally) think they should
  • Lack of burst: In anything more than a 1v1 situation, a DK starts to struggle with getting people down fast due to it being a 'DoT class', leap is a very good ability but relying on an ult for your burst isn't enough. (Templars get power of light/jabs, Nb's get surprise attack/incap)
  • Healing/Tankiness: Contrary to popular opinion, I don't feel as if stam DK's are as tanky as most people make them out to be (not taking turtle tanks into consideration)
  • Nightblades get passive resistances and cloak which is a very good defensive ability, and templars get purify/Resistance buff w/ 8% damage mit.

I'm not saying DK's lack heavily in all of these areas, I'm just trying to get across that other classes can do all the same and more often than not they can do it better (Wardens are the new DK's)

I also feel as if Stam sorcs are a weak class at the minute, but I haven't played one enough recently to comment on it's position so I'll focus on DK's.

The problem with changing DK's in general is how one change can make the other half (Magicka DK/Stamina DK) very powerful, as both of these classes have dominated the meta in the past. One other thing to keep in mind is how powerful stam DK's are PvE, and how weak Magicka DK's are.

I feel as if a few small changes could bring DK's back into balance, but no drastic changes as we could just go full circle and make them OP again:
  • Igneous shield I think is a center piece in a Stam DK, major mending and the stam return have been nerfed rightfully, but maybe by a bit too much. I propose either increase the stam sustain, or the time on major mending by an extra second or 2. Or, an entirely new addition could be the ability to cleanse 1 negative effect with 1 use of igneous shield.
  • Another change which has been brought up in the past is the addition of Major Expedition to wings. A very basic but effective change to a class lacking mobility.
  • Other changes could be things like passive changes, I personally would like to see a complete overhaul on a few passives as they seem outdated for 2018 ESO, but passive changes could really tip the class into being overpowered again.

I can't see any more skills getting a stamina morph, (as much as I'd like to see inhale get one, I don't see it happening) poison whip should not happen because DK's don't need a spammable dps buff.


I wrote this pretty fast and have probably missed some things or just plainly said something wrong, let me know what you think as I don't think these changes are the best, just things I came up with in a short time.

    I like the major expedition on wings suggestion. How long would it last though?

    Personally I want to see the stone fist / stone giant made into a stamina morph so dk has a burst stamina attack. Make it deal physical damage and maybe drop the minor resistance bonus for something a little more useful in a damage role. I would suggest having it deal additional damage to stunned enemies, which would give it nice synergy with petrify(turn them to stone, then shatter with stone fist). Very similar to the talons->whip combo that magdk gets.

    Wing's should give maybe a 2-3 second major expedition buff. It's hard to say the perfect number because mag dk's can cast it more so it could become relatively powerful but not broken.

    I like the idea of a stone fist change, very overlooked skill
