I want capes.

According to a GDC conference on animation in ESO a couple of years back, Capes were originally going to be in the game, using the same bones as argonian tails do, but they were removed to make room in memory for first person hand/weapon assets.

The talk itself is pretty dull for a non tech-art person, but there are a few interesting insights in there.

I just have one question, will the cape clip with my 2h sword that magically floats on my back when I'm not using it and could I put my guild logo on it?

Edit: That counts as one question where I come from. :#

Just capes .... and pixels for those sensitive area's. ;) I am imagining watching a trial group running around with pixels on them, and the cape is lost to my imagination .... I guess that's what I get for being an Argonian.

    What now master?

ROFL.. That's adorable. You think "consoles" are the ones who are dragging this whole texture-mesh-mess down.
I wonder if there are any other MMOs that Consoles have that allow Capes, have good physics, and run just fine.

If you think consoles can compete with PCs on performance, you're delusional.

Consoles, most definitely, are the the LCD. The entire game is pigeonholed to accommodate the console peasants.

Limited number of abilities of bars? Consoles. No ability to click on anything? Consoles. Lack of real, efficient sub bars (read: pet management)? Consoles.

    Don't even get me started.

Or... it's the limitations of the game's engine.

But sure, let's start a console war for no reason.

People need to find something to blame.. but the Obvious never really seems to satisfy. The game itself has limitations caused by it’s own conservative design - but Console players are the “real problem” to the unenlightened commoners.

PS4 is about to get a Tera beta, has a fully functioning Warframe, Neverwinter, and FF14 - and may get Black Desert.
How exactly would consoles be to blame for ESO not being able to match graphical and/or physics-based capabilities in these games?

100gb on console and it simply doesn’t have the power to seperate certain cloth meshes from the character’s legs (Nocturnal), most of it’s fabric physics are stiff like a board, and it’s animations are still a touch rigid.
That isn’t because Consoles simply can’t handle those things.
ESO is a fantastic game, but it has it’s limits. Those limits tend to be in the graphical regions.

DAOC had capes. Your guild symbol went on the cape. The only way to get a cape was to join a guild. Much better system than the ESO guild tabard, which is hideous, looks like a body-bib. Almost never see them, usually covered with a costume. Because, ugly. If DAOC could do it 10 years ago, EOS's excuses sound pretty lame today.
Ditch the guild tabard. Update the character model and give us guild capes.

If you are talking about controls and other “gameplay” features, it is quite possible. If it was, they did a poor job of it, though, since I’ve seen more complex and in-depth “gameplay” on consoles before.
If you are talking about “Graphical systems”, which is what I am responding to, than it was made with some pretty out-of-date specs for said consoles.
A comment claiming this game can’t have “capes” because it won’t work on consoles is just flat idiotic.

@Savos_Saren yes Blizzard did that but you cant compare blizzard budget on WoW with ESO...looking as it is ESO sadly struggles to survive and with no $$$ I see no way they gona put time in remaking the game on a new engine...lets face it ESO is a cow that gets milked until its going to die...unless a miracle happens...I for one don't believe in miracles.

How is ZoS struggling with cash?
They gave away $1 million dollars in a contest to player.
They had a Multi-Million dollar commercial during last years Super-Bowl.
They won a Half-BILLION dollar lawsuit with Oculas & FaceBook..
No, I think Zen Media is doing just fine.

And don't blame consoles for "No Capes". Consoles didn't even have ESO till over a year after launch. ESO was designed for PC with consoles being second on list. (Note: ESO was in development before Skyrim was even released..)
So many ":Arm Chair Developers" here. If you know that ESO can add capes, then please write and send the Program Coding and Algorithms to Zos, or listen to the developers as to why "Capes" are a bad idea. Just because a game 10 years ago has something, it does not mean all games can have it, or should.

Yes, cloakes would be cool, but after the "Breton Costume", No Thank You...

The developers have covered (#wordchoice) why there are no cloth physics in the game and why they cannot do so. The character models were all made with a very limited pool of "morph points" available, and that did not leave room for cloth physics.

Yeah skyrim was limited aswell, but the Nightingale cape was actually not that bad.
Definitely not as bad as the Breton hero armor.
It was horrible on Khajiit and probably Argonian because tail clipped through cape.
