✭✭Not me. I like being part of guilds. This is a social MMO. And some guilds don't require you to socialize (or do anything but log in), for those that don't like it, yet they still provide benefits like a guild manor, guild bank, and sometimes a guild trader. No reason not to join one.8 -
Smmokkee✭✭✭✭✭I join a trade guild temporarily to sell goods but I'm guildless and have for the most part always been guildless. I play by myself and have always been able to pug content for items I have needed. It was nice when vma weps were bis for pvp because I know Ill never have the groups for vdsa and as. No big deal though game cleary wants you to group up but I just dont care to.11

✭✭✭✭✭I've only ever joined a 'real' guild in one game (Star Trek Online), and that was only after 4-5 years of playing, and only so I could get access to the fleet tailor for a couple specific outfits. It's a guild that doesn't actually do anything group/socially, except for giving access to the various fleet bases & vendors.
I had a personal guild in WoW, to trade stuff between my alts. And to stop all the annoying people who spammed guild invites at you constantly.
ESO? Nah. That would involve dealing with people.

I'm on console and I've got a hell of a good guild. I became quick friends with near everyone in it, they do what they can to help other members far up rare gear, do free give-aways, organize large events, teach players Trials, do PvP events, and also get Merchants fairly regularly without requesting fees or pushing for donations.
I'm fairly certain that one guy just has issues with being in a community and working with others - Or they just find all the worst people.
...When I show up to Guild events wearing nothing but the Tabard, half of everyone else strips down and joins me in a nude punch-fest! World Bosses beware!! Naked people will punch you all in the face...6 -

✭✭✭Very hard to find a good guild in this game there are a few but not many at all. Only active or full are trading guilds but no one talks or are very social in them.
Trial guilds are the same 12-15 ppl that run together and let no one else join the main raid, they might have 200-300 members but it's really just the core group and 200+ members they talk bad about.
Pvp guilds are active but only to get a zerg together then use group chat. These guild suffer from the same thing trial guilds suffer from the hard core pvp guilds only want to play with the same people and builds tank bombers and healers. That leaves the other members feeling left out and don't take part as much and are only used when the main people or off.
Social guild are weird about 100-300 members but only like 7-15 people seem to ever talk and use voice chat the other members are there for just being there. This kind of guild just seems like a meeting spot for closer long term players to bs while they are farming housing or questing.
I been in many different guilds over 4+ years of playing this game, I'm a guild hopper and I notice these trends in all guilds and its really a shame. Last game I played we only could be in one guild you had to prove urself just not in skill and knowledge but also personality to get accepted and even then you where put on probation time. Most guilds ran like this made you more involved with guild and cared to be in it kind of like guild pride.
I have found amazing guilds with some great people but they don't seem to last long. The guild master leaves then gives guild to an officer not many like guild dies. Or a lot of people join real fast then personalities clash and people leave. No reason to stay in any guild bc you can be in five and its really easy to join any of them.
Right now I'm in a few trading guilds just to sell stuff but I consider that the same as being guildless.

That's a cynical, potentially accurate description of trade guilds, sure. But trade guilds are only one of the types of guilds you'll find. I'm in a PVP/dueling guild where the guild leader drops millions of his own gold to fund guild activities including prizes for tournaments and hiring guild traders. I know some other members chip in, but I've never seen solicitation for donations or any other money making scheme. I'm also in a social/PVE guild where the officers and senior members (myself included) have donated far more than they get out of the guild monetarily to help new members and fund guild events.
Sounds like you just need to look around for better guilds.2 -

ofSunhold✭✭✭✭✭Tough way to go when being able to sell your random lucky drops through a vendor requires a guild. I'm not surprised if people make that choice anyway though, the endless drama and people who think they need to be holding somebody's hand at all times can be tiresome.
A good guild is worth finding, even for those who love their solitude. Just imo.Classes that don't need any class ability nerfs: Nightblades, Dragonknights, Sorcs, Templars, Wardens.0 -

✭✭✭✭Me. I am guildless by choice. It's just the way I am. It's just the way I like things to be. I've been told that I am "pathologically self-reliant" (thanks, boss). And now I'm older I have grumpy old man syndrome too. I don't bear fools lightly. So, being on my own keeps me happy.
One of the reasons I like ESO so much is that it doesn't actually punish you for playing 100% solo, unlike the other MMO's I've tried. I accept that there is some content I cannot do, but it's a very small part of this enormous game. I accept that there are some goodies that I will never have, but the difference between the stuff I have and stuff I cannot get is tiny. By playing solo I don't feel that I am excluding myself from any part of the game that I would want to do.
Don't bother sending me any guild invites. It's just never going to happen. I don't do grouping either
Happiness is Loneliness. I love the butterflies too

So, so true with an exception for me. I found some trade guilds that expect absolutely nothing; no contributions, no sales goals, nothing. It's marvelous. I can dither about on my own, having a good ol' time and sell the decent stuff.

✭✭✭✭✭My serious game is WoW where I am in a heroic raiding guild, ESO is my casual game where I play at erratic times and may play between 2 - 6 weeks at a time with breaks around 1-5 months where I don't play, depending on other options. Joining guilds is a lot of hassle when you don't play the game regularly or at consistent hours. I'm not wealthy, but do okay; I have max crafting on most of my characters, I do the Undaunted and Crafting Writ dailies across all 15 characters to make my gold, it's not much but it's enough for what I need.1 -
umagon✭✭✭✭✭I have been in guilds in the past on other games and found there was too much collectivism and tribalism. Any idea or concept that was not widely supported by all was dismissed with little to no exploration. I cannot begin to tell you how many times people told me X will never work in a raid environment, then I would do X and it would work really well. Followed by the leaders getting upset because now everyone wanted to do X and it was not their idea.
Or another crazy time where 25% of the guild got mad that I sold these items for really cheap. I had these items stacking up in my inventory for years; I wasn’t trader I mostly pvped and didn’t know that the traders in the guild had a fixed market on the items. So, sold like 400 of these things cheap to clear out my inventory and apparently this crashed market value on them. I had to deal with weeks of people complaining at me about it.
There is a lot more but I am not going into it, just let’s say I never join guilds anymore and this quote sums up my thoughts on guilds “When you get into one of these groups, there’s only a couple of ways you can get out. One is death. The other is mental institutions. Or third, you can’t get out.”.

✭✭✭✭✭I used to run and otherwise belong to kingdoms and guilds in MUDs and MMOs etc but don't look to be involved in them these days. I'm an older player and prefer to just do my own thing with no commitment to others and with no desire to put up with the "drama" that permeates a lot of guilds. In the specific case of ESO the ability to join multiple guilds removes the whole sense of belonging which was the original attraction of guilds in other games, and often it's just a means to an end so far as the trading system is concerned (and which I'm too casual a trader having a roster of largely self-sufficient characters across two accounts to be bothered with).3 -

Oh god yes, the Fleet dramas a few years ago were epic but their guild system has pretty much been abandoned now by their Devs and they pushed for solo orientated play. Not a bad f2p game, just nothing amazing anymore which is why I started ESO. It's more theme park than MMO.
I've only played ESO for about 6 months so far but the guilds feel like raffles and donations a lot of the time to me so far. Having said that though I've only been in a few so far and find myself doing solo play most of the time. A few friends I dragged over from Star Trek Online and I formed one for a chat channel but not really gone beyond that with ours.
