While $40 might be like half a day's work for some, people who have actually played the game and done their research without any scrolls at all have spent much more than half a day researching. The research scrolls are a convenience item and shouldn't completely negate the time and effort others have put in. After all it only takes a few minutes each day to log in to check current research and to start researching another item once the previous one has completed.

That is bizarre ZOS. 15 days is not worth $40 of real life money. To a lot of people making $40 is like half a work day or more. I would pay $40 for a scroll that completes the full research timer, but not 15 days... I know what most people are gonna say, "Just don't buy it". Well you have to admit that price is a little bit... How do you say? Ridiculous! Come on now.. If you are gonna gradually move into P2W then at least make it worth our while.... Either way lets discuss.
If some people are willing to spend it then it's the right price for them.
Whilst I agree with others that the cost is too much for me (and I don't mind the wait), there are some who make a lot of money and simply don't care about such costs.
ZOS' pricing model for the Crown Store does seem to focus more on these people than normal players however. There is an increasing trend of only offering things at prices which most common people are not going to be willing to pay, which sadly means less of the Crown Store is accessible to those working 9-5 minimum wage jobs.

I spent over a year IRL of logging in the game daily doing my research. I even had a calendar timer and logged on while on holiday abroad just to keep up with my research. I have spent millions in game, on motifs, learning every motif, vast amounts of money and farming accumulating a surplus of mats, every style mat, so I can craft anything a customer they want in an instance.
Now they just add a P2W trivializing all my efforts! I'm not actually happy about this at all!

That is just a bad model then. It gives research a "p2w" aspect. Where only the rich are able to afford to finish research with these scrolls giving them an advantage over people who don't put a lot of money into this game. Knowing a lot of traits is beneficial because you can then offer your services to other people for tips. So this does give people an advantage. I hate to see games that aren't p2w turn into that.

An advantage how? It's incredibly easy to earn gold in this game without crafting.....
