It seems many disregard the challenge of leveling up a new character without CP and the benefit of crafting set bonuses. Especially when taken into account a new player is also learning the combat style of this game.

With that taken into account the games difficulty in open world is just fine. Those that want a greater challenge have the dungeons all the way to vet HM trials to find greater difficulty.

    It's too hard
I pug all the time and the new contents are not really pugable, they are not noob friendly, they are all for well experienced players with decent skills if you wanna play on vet.
I don’t know why ZOS just keeps increasing the difficulty on any new contents, dungeons and trials.
It’s not like there’re no new players comes in.
You need to make the contents noob friendly and pugable. IMO.

This game is crying out for an intermediate mode - the gulf between normal and veteran is huge in many cases. Especially for dungeons and trials, more than the overland stuff.

I guess those who say "it's too easy" are those players who have been playing it since the launch? Not to mention they have all the best golden gear and all that jazz...
Yeah...I think I will be singing the same "it's too easy" song in about two years...

I've been playing it for a year, it's my first mmo of this kind, and I'd call myself a causal player. So, some parts are easy, some are hard, some are still too hard to give them a try even (if ever).

Having said that, again, for someone who hasn't played such mmo before...I'd say I do not bad for an Elder Scrolls noob.

I say that if the devs decide to add more difficulty to the base game because the old players base complain..they will lose a lot of customers in general.

Overland difficulty is fine, I play ESO to relax and enjoy the world and not to be constantly challenged.

That being said... why not offer a quest that, once completed, grants the player a collectible item that applies a debuff to their damage, mitigation and resources and a buff to gold/exp gain and drop chances (for x hours) when used? That would solve most the issues, without impacting anyone else.

elder scrolls games isnt about “difficulty” they are about creating a character, playing how you want to play, and enjoying the ride.
i think this game nails it with difficulty.

      BUT....
all of the DLC dungeons are just entirely too difficult, especially on normal!!!
they should bring down those dungeons to be in line with nonDLC dungeons for normal mode and leave the sweating and stressing in veteran mode and for reading the scroll.
this method will cater to casuals like myself, and for those that want to be challenged and punish no one.

Like others have said, some content is far too easy and some is a tad over the top difficult. Overall I think it offers something for everyone though. I've seen people struggle with content that I just melt and on the other hand I struggle with content that some people run routinely (ie. VMA).

Some of the content is toooooo easy.

For example the vampire quest, if you light bow attack an NPC they practically just fall over dead. I used to like it when the quest was harder when you actually had to work for your vampire skill line.

Some content is just too hard for me but I'm fine with that. I don't think i've ever completed a vet DLC dungeon because I just can't do them.

I have no problem with mechanics that require a certain level of group coordination and a DPS floor to be completed successfully by supposedly "elitist" players. The problem with difficult content is not that is too difficult, but rather that in recent installments the difficulty has been intentionally increased by adding too much randomness, and unintentionally by adding bugs on top of that. So even if you perform well and do they mechanics as they should be done you will still have a high chance of failing to some random occurrence or bug (ex. can't grab a synergy because it overlaps with others or it doesn't spawn at all in Scalecaller Peak Zaan boss fight) or some telegraphs or animations don't render properly (various trial bosses "animation cancel" their one-shot attacks, circles that tell you to do certain things don't spawn on you and you blow up the group like in vMoL twins fight). Yes, some of those bugs are somewhat mended on PC by various addons, but those aren't available on consoles. Also it's a bad idea to push reaction times to the biological limit, when some players have latency as high as 400 ms due to geographical limitations or simply latency spikes due to malfunctioning network infrastructure, servers and/or client. It's extraordinarily frustrating to get "lassoed" back by the game killed by an effect you thought you had just dodged. Those things should be taken into account by the design team as things don't usually go as smooth when you aren't located next to the server room.

Overworld is fine, it isn't meant to be challenging for vets with years of experience, BiS gear and tons of cp. I constantly see players struggle with enemies that die to me in seconds.

You ever start a quest and get stuck because it was too hard, holding up your progress and becoming increasingly frustrating?

It's not fun, especially for new players who just want to experience a story and couldn't care less about how "rewarding" it is to finally overcome said obstacles.

Some people just want to play a game to relax and that is what the overworld is for. Get out of your bubble and just observe others sometime, it can be very enlightening.

It really depends on where you are at and what you are playing. My bow blade is above max gear level and has hunding's rage purple with nirnhoned and divines, monster shoulders and has random blue in 2 armor slots and jewelry slots with a 50/50 split on stam/health assignment. He struggles against more than 2 mobs at time, quite a few delve bosses and some elite mobs. This character is a trash( read master crafter/thief/primary gatherer) character not meant to do end game content but to be more of a support toon for my other characters.

My magsorc is level 24 wearing random blue and green pieces and can just stand there and nuke mobs constantly and take little to no damage even with a staff that is 10 levels old she is still putting out 8-10k dps. She melts delve bosses and elites like butter.

The point of all this information is that your perspective on if content is to easy or to hard is highly dependent on what you are playing. Magsorc OW seems like easy mode on a bow blade its frustrating at times just to collect shards( and id really struggle if he wasnt a pro at sneaking and kept a half stack of invis pots on hand)

What this tells me is there a balance issue between classes and weapons not that content is to easy or hard. It should be slightly harder for tanks because they lack dps and healers should have a much harder time. I can swap my magsorc to the back bar which is only restro staff and 2 non morphed heals and not use a pet and she can still tank and kill groups of 2 or 3 mobs, elites, and delve bosses, just a bit slower than on her front bar.

I was quite shocked by that experiment. A resto sorc with 2 points in heals outperforms a bowblade with all bowskills trained and far better gear in OW content.

I wish quests were harder and taught you something. I would like see quests were you need multiple people to compete it. Not only that but a reward for efforts.

We tried that. It was called Craglorn, multiple quests outright required multiple people to press buttons at once and bosses were scaled for it.

It didn't catch on and Craglorn quickly became a wasteland. The experiment has been tried, it had it's time.

      Good point,

Maybe though it was simply too much. Maybe group content spread out into different zones. Also not just hard, but interesting to work together. Things like have to collect x in time, or free friend from before they fall into slaughterfish. Some simple yet enjoyable things together. Craglorn to me before...was simply overwhelming.

It has a good range of difficulty levels depending on the type of content. There’s super easy stuff for the more relaxed gameplay and there’s rip-your-arm-off-and-beat-you-with-it difficult content for the more challenge oriented types.

It’s as an MMO should be, imo.

The only real change I would like to see is a "hard mode" server for overland content...it would likely be sparsely populated, but with content akin in difficulty to what Craglorn used to be, pre-nerf. It would give me a reason to do quests. I have done maybe 20% of the quests in this game because overland is just too mind-numbingly easy and so therefore boring.

Unless they actually remove VR/CP at this point I don’t care.

It’s a big mess and people are trying to use a measurement that isn’t one .....CP

Then with constant changes and scaling I’m not sure anyone finds anything hard once they learn how to do any encounter. I’d much rather the difficulty be placed upon read and react vs a scripted encounter like how dungeon bosses are done, (i don’t enjoy that)

I would enjoy encounters like early closed beta where overworld npcs just battled but als if bosses just battled using skills not these MMORPG traditional set ups.

The overworld content is so easy now it's a joke and not even enjoyable. I used to enjoy doing overworld content for the story/lore and as a more relaxing monster smashing activity. But after so many rounds of nerfs the general content aside from world bosses is so easy that it's not even worth the bother to play (not just older character, but with an alt I rolled up).

I think ZOS had it right at launch, the difficulty of level 1-50 areas. Standing in red wasn't a good idea, you had to block/dodge, and quest bosses actually felt like "bosses". The game needs more difficult overworld content instances with better xp/rewards.
