About the Halloween orange dye (and dyes in general...)

I want it. Badly. I dont even know whats it called because its available only on Halloween (for the last 2 years at least), and only through buying in the shop, the dye itself is not available in the game. And thats really sad and annoying, because its the literally only orange thats... orange. Every other orange is... well, more on that later.
My fear is, that ZOS knows perfectly well that this orange is the best looking color in the game, and will keep it behind a paywall, for only once a year. I really want this color permanent. Because, once you remove it and choose another color, its gone. Until next halloween. IF they keep the Events up from now on. And until you have 400 Crowns i believe. :C
Please, at least make it an Achivement dye. Maybe for the Halloween Event, but permanent. I understand that games make some things available only one time, or only on Events, but a dye? A color for your gear? Thats a bit rough. And for all i know, this is the ONLY color thats not available in the game as a normal dye. No other color is this unavailable.
If you dont want to give us this color, then please, at least make a good orange. Because...

Rant from here on, discretion is advised! (Means, dont cry over what i write here if youre offended, thank you very much)

Most colors in the game are bad. Really, extremly bad. (If you want to argue about that, im all ears, but i would be really suprised.) This has multible reasons:
There are many colors. Much too many. Most of them look just alike. I mean there are how many reds, over 20? And how many do people use, 3? 4? That also look almost exactly the same? I appreciate that you tried to give us variety, but too many cooks spoil the broth. Literally not one player uses one of the first reds you get, i can bet my soul for that. Or greens. I dont see many people... to be honest, i dont see anyone, wearing ANY green color. I know youre trying to give us stuff for achivements, but in my opinion, i would rather have nothing then 14 reds and 8 greens that i personally wont ever use.
This many colors are confusing, because, and this brings me to my second point, the colors dont look like they are shown on the icon. Not at all. Not one single color looks on gear like it looks on the icon, not even Julianos White or Coldharbor Ash Black. And then they look even more diffrent on diffrent "Types" of armor. And im not talking about light or heavy armor, im talking about... i guess the closest to describing it is "texture". And not only that some colors shine on metallic surfaces and dont on textile, but even on diffrent types of textiles that should look the same colors look much diffrent. The best instance for this is, there are no oranges at all except for the one i mentioned earlier. There are colors that are CALLED orange, but they look... terrible. I guess this Senche Orange (or whatever its called) is the closest thing you got that looks kinda orangy... on metal. On textile, it looks, just like all other oranges, brown mixed with red. And that really is an ugly brown.
Oh, and the worst thing about textures is on costumes. Every color on every costume (i have) is warped beyond recognition. Every Red is a deep purple or a light peach on my Dark Shaman costume. Which means, i cant wear any reds on that costume, at all. Everything that distorts colors is amplified on costumes.

And now for the really confusing part. You have SHOWN that you can make a good orange. A perfect orange! Or other good colors, like the Abyssal Beryl blue. Those are even ones of the only colors that do NOT distort on costumes! Thats amazing! If i hadnt seen those kinds of colors, i would just say, maybe its the lighting. Maybe its the engine. Maybe good colors are just not possible in this game. But those colors ARE good! So its none of those reasons. And i really cant figure out why we (still) have so many so bad colors. But one of the best colors, we dont get. I cant wrap my head around it.
I mean, when you sell this orange once a year to a few hundred people, does it make you SO much money that you dont want to give it to us? Because i believe you can make a lot more money with a lot more other things. Like Mounts. Costumes. DLCs. All the things you make money with atm. I really dont think this orange makes enough money to pay even 10% of one workers loan for one month.
I mean, money is money, but keeping one single color from us only for money? Thats too greedy even for Zenimax. I wont belive thats the case.

One reason i write this (now), is because of the implementation of the transmog and weapon coloring features in the next update. This is absolutley amazing! This also shows, you still care about things like this. And you should. Games are supposed to be fun. And individuality is one of the biggest fun factors in games, especially online games.
So my biggest question is: Do we get a color overhaul at some point? My personal suggestion would be, delete 50% of all colors (because, as i said, most of them just look like the color next to it), and change textures a bit, so that the colors in the icons really match the color that is on the gear. That would be a really big step in the right direction.

I know that this "fashion" stuff is not that important to everyone, but to me (and probably a few others) it is. (As you can see clearly with this textwall...) In Dark Souls for instance, nice looking armor and weapons are so important, that its called "Fashion souls" when you dont care about the stats of an item but only for the look. You want to look good/badass/edgy/whatever floats your boat. And thats exactly the same here. And here, you dont have to worry about stats at all now with transmogs. I mean, just imagine if you would have to run around in the gear you first ever found in Eso, with the colors from the first achivements you ever got. Thats wouldnt give you quite the feeling of being an amazing character in this game, would it? Certanly not for me.
For me, individuality, "fashion", whatever, is a fun factor as big as some of the big game mechanics. The work to worth ratio on overhauling the dyes is worth it in my eyes.

Here is a screenshot with the orange halloween dye on my costume (that also was available only for 3 days only 1 time in history so far, but with costumes i can see why... somewhat), maybe you understand why i want this color freely available. (And maybe you even know the name of it, just write it in here so people know, thanks.)

This. When stamps were announced I thought they would be really cool. Acquire the stamp, get the ability to use it as many times as you want on a dye station to apply the color combo to our gear. Was I very disappointed when I found out it was only for costumes and a one use only thing. No way will I ever drop crowns on them.

Only holiday dye stamps, fishing dyes are for example rare and shouldn't be permanently unlocked with your wallet. Holiday dye stamps are only obtainable with money and should be permanently unlocked for example

Yes, its kinda like the shaders in Destiny 2, one time use items for colors for your gear. Noone likes them. Not that anyone likes the game itself, but especially not those shaders.

In the dyes from the shop there are fishing dyes? Ok, thats just wrong. No they shouldnt be permanent without the Achivement... they shouldnt be in the shop at all. I mean, not that i can imagine that anyone buys those stamps anyways (expect for the halloween one), but...
Ye, any dyes from achivements shouldnt be in the shop imo.

Have you tested bloodroot wine? It looks like a lovely intense orange.

I've never bought a dye stamp, for exactly the reasons you say: they're one use only, which isn't much help when you just want the intense July red but can't be sure it'll work with the material or the other colours you have planned.

That said, I will fight you about deleting colours. (๑و•̀ω•́)و I really like the variety of dyes we have to work with, and I find that almost all of the colours are visibly distinct. I like the progression of it (start with tints, end with paint and/or alternate shines), and I have tried new-to-me content specifically for the dye. I like that the tints are still useful after unlocking rare dyes - I use the common shein violet as an accent on my main - and the variety of dyes meant I could play around with colours even when I was low level. (Hunters or woodsman green? Which looks better with my available golds? etc) Halving the dyes would interfere with all of that.

100% agree that there needs to be a better indicator of how well costumes will dye. While manipulating cloth vs leather vs metal can make for some fun effects, it's not any fun to discover a new costume won't do what you want - in my case the Sixth House Robe, rather than the Dark Shaman costume.

Ok yes, maybe they dont need to delete any colors. If some people really use some of the... "weak" colors, thats just fine. Would make them too much work anyways i belive. But yes, overhauling the colors to fit what the colors should look like is nessecary in my eyes.
I dont have bloodroot wine yet, i will start playing again with the new update now. But you see my point, blootroot wine gives an orange color... seriously. Thats just fantastic. Orange would absolutley be the first color i have in mind when i hear the word "wine".

Perception of colours, as optics teaches, is very subjective. On the top of that, it's also purely a matter of one's sense of aesthetics. So I'd be very careful calling some colours ugly or "weak" whereas others "true" or whatever. I find many of the colours useful and working on certain fabrics used for armour.

I do agree that the colour samples do not show what these colours actually look like on various type of armour (and they should) therefore these samples are very misleading. On the other hand, all dyes in the game are achievement/rewards, so it's not like you pay for them. The people who righteously can complain here are those who don't not have the eso plus so if they want to dye their costume must buy the stamp. But at least they can preview it before buying it.

And I like that the dyeing system takes the "fabric" into consideration when applying a dye. If it wasn't, everything would look the same, flat and artificial.

all this time and I'm still trying to understand this... I think we're applying dyes OVER a base colour (the normal colour of the equipment) right?

Hence the odd color results. Wish there was a way to wipe the base colour and reflect the selected colour only. Also a "matte" setting,a nd the ability to mix.

I was held in the grips of rotating rage and despondence at the hint of true orange from halloween. Then came the horns dungeons and the return of true orange, hidden behind the reddish name of bloodroot wine, and all for the low price of one vFH and one vBF completion. Try it.

But also, I agree at the thousands of shades of brown. I like brown and all, but they're all slight variations of gray-brown.

I disagree that there are too many colors (probably because I actually like a lot of the gross/bad colors), especially in the cases where certain ones are the same, but one is a matte version and one shiny. Idk maybe I just like colors/customization too much

Anyway I think holiday colors should be permanent purchases from the crown store like others have suggested. But I would prefer if at least one holiday color were freely obtainable during the holiday events instead (like the New Life blue).

Can someone post a picture of the bloodroot wine dye? Would like to see it, and how close it is to the halloween orange.
And im suprised that people seem to like the weaker colors, and by weak i dont mean it negative, but in contrast to the "strong" colors. You know what i mean.

As far as I’ve seen, Bloodforge dye is not the orange you are looking for. It is intense, yes, but more like red for me. Very different from cheerful pumpkin dye.

I totally agree with OP, halloween pumpkin dye is the best dye in the game. I never thought I would buy color stamps, but I did... quite many of them last halloween.

I don't have a picture of bloodroot wine, but I can say it is pretty vibrantly orange. Tbh I don't think there is a relatively easy, true orange dye. Bloodroot wine, general's gold, sigil orange all are behind "difficult" achievements whereas there are plenty of blues, greens, purples, and whites that are locked behind zone quest achievements.

I like weak, washed out browns, whites, some greens and blues, and pinks. I also like some strong colors too. I don't really prefer one type over the other. I think my taste is the minority though, especially when I see how most players dye their stuff.

I personally think vibrant and flashy colours look tacky. I like earthy tones - master gold is one of my favourite dyes. It all depends on what's being dyed though. Rare colours only look good on metals as they make everything else look like silk (I hate silk).

IMO, the most frustrating part is how different the colours look on different things, even on the same kind of material. I often have to mix and match dyes for hats and costumes to make them look alike.

If you're buying dye stamps, you're part of the problem.

Why would ZOS make more good dyes available for free and unlimited use, when they can just sell them as consumables for money form the store?

They have kept the really good dyes, real orange, real red, real white, behind a dye stamp paywall.

By supporting them you're just showing them that this is a great business model that works as intended.

No, i never buyed dye stamps and i never would, except 2 times on the last 2 halloween because you cant get the orange anywhere else. Its the only color you only can buy.

And your statement would be true, but most colors in the dye stamps are absolute garbage. I cant see anyone using them from either dying or buying.

When I first saw dye packs and tried using it. I thought that those five blocks on the dyes page were where you installed a pack to use. Allowing for five bought combinations to be added for continual use until you changed one out for a new combination you wanted to add thus losing the colors you pitched. I thought I could get behind that.

then I found out how to use it, and it was a one shot. Decided I would not waste my crowns on them. I only have the ones I gained from a event. Tried some of those out just to see what it looked like and to burn through them for bank space. Reaffirmed that dye packs are not worth my crowns for one shot applications.

Rather see them changed to be how I thought they worked. Added to the color palate screen, reusable color until changed out. I think they would sell more buy making them more useful.

First you say you never buy dye stamps, then you say you buy them. Make up your mind?

First you say the dye stamp colors are garbage, then you say the only really good orange color is from a dye stamp. Your post is nonsensical.

I am of course talking about the dye stamp EXCLUSIVE colors such as the orange, the really good vivid red and a clear white - which can be found ONLY on dye stamps and NOT among the usual achievement dyes.

As long as you keep throwing money at ZOS for them, they have no intentions of ever releasing them as unlockables outside the dye stamp consumable system.

Exactly, if we purchase a dye with crowns it should be a permanent account entitlement added to our available dye pallet and not a consumable.
