Why I’m Sick of ESO’s Combat

So, I’d consider myself a pretty decent player in terms of combat expertice.

I can pick up pretty much any character and hit 30k dps minimum on a 6mil dummy.
Without cheesy ass sets or being at pen cap.
I can do that on the extremely gimped classes as well, such as a ranged magdk or a ranged magplar.
Even silly builds like a double bow stamsorc/stamblade.

But I’m getting so tired of trying to get better at this game…

I have my rotations down for my favorite classes.
And I know what needs to happen for me to be outputting maximum dps.

The only problem is… half the time my god damn light attacks don’t go off!

I hate how in order to succeed at this game I need to have god tier internet and ping.
Assuming the servers feel like being responsive... and you know barswaps actually happen... and I don't get stuck in heavy attack animations.

so you don't hate the combat you just hate the lag, so the thread technically is a nerf lag thread

In this specific case, I don't think @Telvanni is referring to LA lag. The game literally eats light attacks sometimes. We use to think it was that the animation wasn't playing but the damage was still there, but numerous tests later shows that the light attacks are actually disappearing. It seems to effect staves and bows more than melee atm though.

@Telvanni you forgot to mention that when caltrops are thrown sometimes characters get frozen...like their brain stopped for 2 seconds.

Yeah I hate that! I cast caltrops, it doesn't go off. So i try casting it again. And I end up casting it twice.

    I feel your pain....

    * tried weapon swapping 3 different times today and had to stop completely and give it a 2 count and THEN push weapon swap. I nearly died twice because i couldnt get to heals on back bar.
    * Oh and forget roll dodging. I roll dodge 2 seconds after i give the command.
    * I took endless hail off my stamblade because it doubled fire every time in dungeons but was fine in the open world. It was to annoying to mess with it.
    * Lets not forget block. i hit block on the animation for a heavy attack on me and it never blocks i get whacked to the ground.
    * My stamblade is like the energizer bunny in dungeons. Sometime after i take my fingers off all keys i just keep firing. I have to dodge or block, and sometimes reload UI, to get it to stop.
    * random stunned: Ill be frozen in place, not even in combat sometimes for 2-3 seconds.
    * Sometimes Many times i cant get abilities or weapon swap to work in BGs with no one around, little lone in combat.

In all these cases ping is fine and so is frame rate. I think, basically, their servers are like that $400 pc at walmart. Has just enough ability to run windows 10, but anything other than checking your mail or the weather is to much demand for it so it just falls on its face

I just power through and do the best i can with it, but i fear i will never beat the end game boss, Mr Potato Lag.

True and seemingly blaming the servers for the issue when others can get their light attacks off just fine.

This probably needed a different title but i agree with you 1000%. No matter if its pve or pvp light attacks hit like half the time. So stupid. Ive posted about this issue many times on the forums and gotten no info. It wasnt always like this. Sometime after one tamriel this changed and has never been the same. But then again, the game has literally *** the bed since morrowind so who knows.

Lags is causing most of the imperfect gaming experience here
and it just sucks wherever you are, yóu face those lags.
even in vMA, where you are alone with a few NPCs
    it sucks

Ya, those light attacks don't always land, or register, or something.

I've always been sad that the game as moved more and more towards light attack weaving being the standard combat system in the game. I have no issues with it being in the game but to become the standard system isn't something I am happy with.

As mentioned by OP it sucks for anyone with ping, as well as those with disabilities or injuries which make spamming mouse buttons not a viable play style. It wouldn't be so bad if we could even use a macro to just fire a light attack every X seconds and not give ourselves RSI, but those are banned.

You lost your credibility saying that ranged magplars are gimped. But ok.

This must be the reason why there are so many magplars in trials since morrowind.

Hint: there are none in competitive groups.

Well if a competitive group is the benchmark then almost all classes are gimped.

Whatelse? Should classes be balanced around overworld? normalTrials where pulling like 10k DPS (don't get me wrong, magplar can get much higher) is ok? Even if you just look, what magplars could do and what they now do in terms of DPS, yes it IS a gimped class.

Ontop of that: everything besides magplar, magwarden and MagDK is viable in competitive groups...so it's not like "almost all classes"...it's more like magicka-meelee + magWarden.

I've seen plenty of non cheesed 40k+ ranged magplar parses. Not sure what else you'd want?

competitive DPS in a trials environment? aka 55k++ to compete with stamina or equal DPS compared to Magsorc/MagNB to not be a burden on the ranged spots.
I've yet to see a competitive Trials-Parse from a magplar post-morrowind. But i'd be happy to see one.
