Why is Wall of Elements called Wall of Elements when the elements are cast on the floor, and don't form any kind of wall?

    Maybe it's supposed to be more of a conceptual wall, rather than physical

    Because we're on the side of the globe*, thus it's going upwards (like a wall) when viewed from those not on Nirn.

    * I'll admit I don't know if this is true but it was witty.

    I think you may have started some trouble here! In the various official definitions of the term "Wall" they all seemed to indicate a VERTICAL partition meant to protect or section off an area. Now given these are due to magic, i.e. fire, frost, and lightning, one could argue that the partition, while not traditionally vertical, such as stone, does get some height from the burning fire, snow, and lightning emanating from it.

    Carpet of Elements? I like that. Perhaps the morph with the smaller area of effect could simply be the Rug of Elements?

    That would work well with my newly named Puddle of Lightning.......
