Dungeon/Trials mechanics guide from a tanking perspective.

I was wondering whether there is a reliable documentation or guide regarding block-able boss attacks/mechanics by only Tanks in dungeons and trials. Most guides I’ve read so far are for DPS who are squisher and can’t survive certain mechanics that can be easily absorbed by a tank.

I don't know if there is one, but that would be a valuable resource.

I can add a few that I know. Most telegraphed attacks with yellow flashing lines become oneshots if not blocked.

Selene's Bear is a one-shot if not blocked. I have to block the instant I see the flashing yellow lines, otherwise my lag means the game might not register my block.

Blessed Crucible's Lava Queen has a heavy attack that's a one shot if not blocked and when she plunges her sword into the center lava to do the lava streams, I have to back up so I can pay attention and strafe to avoid the lava streams (same for Valkyn Skoria).

For example, considering optimal points place in CP red tree mitigation ie (Elemental defender, Hardy, Ironclad etc) plus buffed resistances eg 28K, it would be nice to know which attacks from boss mechanics can the tank block and escape relatively unscathed.

I watched vids on Spindleclutch 1 Vet HM. The Whisperer’s AoE damage can deal around 22K which is acceptable by tank standards. But it is rarely mentioned for the tank’s perspective. So the general rule is just to roll away, which is a waste of stamina and time spent repositioning if I can self heal with 2 clicks of DK’s GDB or a tri stat potion.

Learning to tank is harder than ppl give credit for. You have to know what adds to oull, what your offtank will pull. What attacks you have to block no matter what. How to pull the adds to ball them up, etc.

Hinest to god truth your best bet will be to find a guild that will teach you to tank.

This would take so much more than one or two minutes ^^ To OP , I learned fights with experience . Just tank more and more , you simply get better . Only help you can seek for is how to build your character and what to use for different fights . Theorycraft and try to find things that will make certain fights easier and faster . When I get into a whole new fight , I don't block anything at all . I see which attack does how much damage . If you die while learning , roll dodge it next time to see if it is dodgeable . If not , block it next time . There are so many attacks in this game that so many tanks think is a hard hit but barely tickles . Best teacher for you is you , no one else . Most importantly , find a guild that is understanding and willing to let you learn . Getting advice for a fight is something , actually tanking it is something . Different things . You might find something that will work better for you . Just remember this . You are a support role . Pulling group down just to get rid of a burden of yours should be the last thing you do . Evolve your own tactics with this kind of thinking and you will be fine .

Indeed lol. I don't want to admit how long it took me to realize how awesome flappy wings are on chudan, and how ploxy chain pull is on stone shapers.

Learnt it the hard way that the Lava streams are a one shot on HM. Originally, I obtained some of the information regarding mechanics from Emphatic Statics' YouTube channel. But
the information is mostly DPS-centric. Basically red=one shot, roll away.

Regarding the yellow flashing lines, there are many occasions I can barely see it in the midst of all the action and AoE fireworks. Not even disabling ally effects can alleviate that. What I'm trying to do now though is PUG a vet HM dungeon (non DLC for now) on my days off. Stay in red all the way, hold block, make a note of the damage dealt and hope the others won't lose their patience if their tank keeps on dying. Lol

It's perfect logical to roll away if a hit is accompanied by a deadly status effect or if it's an intended one shot. But eventually all tanks need to ask themselves: "I'm wearing 5 piece heavy armor, my left hand holds a humongous shield, HP above 45K and my resistances are at a healthy 30K. Why do I need to run away like everyone else?"

ESO is a game about math and personally, I think it would be great if there is a spreadsheet detailing NPC damage so a tank doesn't need to freak out whenever a boss raises its hand or turn around and glares at the player.
