CP Rounding Question

I saw a few recent comments on YouTube saying that CP numbers like 19 are in fact rounded down to 18, and that you have to put one extra point in so that it rounds down to 19. Is this true? I always though that you wanted to get as close to a number as possible and that if you could land right on it that’s best?

I can't say for certain that ALL whole numbers are rounded up, thus not actually giving their listed value, but yes, "to be safe" you have the right idea -- go one CP above.

As far as I know, this info is accurate and pretty easy to make sense of. Have a look:

As far as I know yes there is a rounding mechanic which hasn't changed.

This was the bigger talk thread about it. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/345589/new-jump-points-on-almost-every-cp-star-read-before-reassigning-your-cp/p1

It is really simple - if some CP give you bonus to lets say stamina recovery (Mooncalf passive) that is 10,88% bonus - the game will simply "round down" it 10% In order to have 11% - you need to put more CP points into that passive so it will hit something above or equal 11%
    It is called "Jump Points"

Yeah I understand that. The way this person made it sound was that even if you put in enough points to equal 11% the game would still round it down to 10% and you would then have to hit at least 11.1% to get it to round to 11%. I didn’t think this was right but a few people seemed to believe it works this way so jsut double checking.

It's because of the way the rounding works, iirc. 10.95% shows as 11% in the UI (just to follow your example; I think 19% is the one that actually does this), so you must go above that to get the number you're looking for.

So you do have to go 1 cp above any of the non decimal point numbers like 15%, 19% etc if you want it to round to that percentage?

There is no “rounding up” for whole percentages in CP @GreenHere. Whole percentages are always rounded down. That’s why all the jump points exist where they do ... at fractions of percentages above the whole percent (percentage-based champion stars only).

@Woeler - If you’re reading this thread, the links provided over to your website are very beneficial. However, some of the actual CP distributions on your tank build templates don’t maximize jump points. Not a huge problem or issue ... but just wanted to point that out since the website is a great resource for new trial tanks.

I wonder who they had code the calc/ type the messages for the fractional percent bonuses, and whether they knew they'd be outright lying to the users by doing so. Probably wanted simpler math by only dealing with whole percents, I get that part, but why still show 'progress' in between? Is it like those non-functional pedestrian crossway buttons?

I see now how my wording above can be a bit confusing... Just to clarify:

My understanding is, for all actual CP benefits, the calculations round DOWN, to the nearest whole number. But in the UI, displayed percent bonuses can be misleadingly rounded up; like the example of 10.97% being shown in the UI as 11%, even though the game only actually gives a 10% bonus.

Is my understanding wrong, @Taleof2Cities ? I don't want to be spreading misinformation.

Sorry to anyone I may have made this convoluted issue even more confusing for. That was the exact opposite of my intention :P

You’ve got it right for the most part.

There is no rounding up. All whole percentages displayed in the UI are rounded down one (1) percent ... and therefore are not a jump point.

    Pretty much.

No, he's asking if the UI ever rounds up, which it does.

The game itself always rounds down, so unless you actually reach the full percentage point, you don't get any benefit.

That said, there are a handful of stars where the UI (but not the game) will round the percentage point up. Everything's displayed to two decimal places, so, you'll get something like 18.996%, which the Champion UI displays as 19%, but the game internally assigns as 18%, because it rounds down.

The only way to check stats like that is to stop at 18.56% (or whatever), check the actual stat value, then advance it to 19%, and see if the in game stat has increased. If it hasn't, then you need to put another point in, and that should cause the stat to jump.

This is only a consideration if the stat displayed is a whole percentage without anything following it. For example, if the percentage displays as 19.14%, you're fine, there's nothing to worry about. Also, when a star caps the last star should create a new jump point (though it's possible some stars are bugged, I've never seen any examples of this reported.)
