Remedies for block changes

On the PTS forum, this topic has been heavily discussed (@Liofa for an awesome job laying out all the balance changes). But the thread is a little lengthy if you're trying to find what remedies are available to mitigate the 3-4 times increased block cost changes. (this is predominantly focused on end-game trials tanking. Most dungeon bosses give opportunity to heavy attack, and not as much blocking required)

After speaking with a number of players running PTS, it seems these are some of the things they've found effective

1. Shield-play enchants on jewelry are effective when you have to basically permablock (Axes/Stone Atro in VAA as an example). But not effective for everyone (depends much more heavily now on shards/stamina builders).

2. A lot of tanks have switched to running two Potion Timer Decrease enchants on jewelry. With the medicine passive, and this, it can make a huge difference for the rapidly dwindling stamina while tanking.

3. More use of off-tanks in end-game trials content. Even so far as splitting axes, or more definite role in grabbing adds etc. Many trials I've done with an off-tank was basically for one or two spots, and otherwise they just rez'd, added some buffs etc.

4. Equilibrium (at least for DK's, not sure about Wardens) is basically a requirement now. Granted, it was very high up on the list before, but most content you could skate by without needing it. Now it's essentially required

**(as a result, may see more classes as tanks than the usual DK/Warden. Sorceror tanks have amazing recovery via dark deal coupled with equilibrium. Even running Necropotennce with your heal pet up)

5. Lastly, some are experimenting with sets off-meta designed for resource recovery. A lot of these sets they are replacing Ebon with:

Examples:
-Desert Rose
-Black Rose
-Aspect of Mazzatun
-Bloodthorn
-Lich
-Akaviri Dragonguard (fairly meta)

And some sets that increase just your overall block percentage/damage mitigation:

-Footman's Fortune
-Automated Defense

Certainly debatable whether the above add that much value or if it's just a knee-jerk reaction. Very interested to hear from more folks on PTS, or just thoughts on whether any of these seem feasible or not, and perhaps what you'd recommend.

*Last note! In very optimized groups, some tanks aren't noticing a tremendous increase. Healers using Master Resto and keeping shards coming frequently (every 20 seconds) can make up a lot of the difference. But as we all know, many groups aren't totally optimized, so tanks in these cases have to, no pun intended, "roll with the punches."

Another option (and one ive already been using for a while on live) is to back bar a frost staff instead of lightning. Let a healer or mag dd run lightning and provide off balance now. With a frost staff you can safely rotate between using magicka or stamina to block while the opposite resource recovers. You lose very little mitigation doing this now, and the biggest downside in my opinion is losing one of your 5 piece set bonuses while on the staff bar, or having to drop to 1pc monster set instead of 2.

Also sentinel of rkugamz cam provide additional stamina recovery while blocking for any tank that has a few healing abilities. Works very well for nightblade, templar, sorc, and warden tanks, less so for dk

IDK, my NB tank is currently shelved until ZOS makes it viable again. I'm tempted to run Akaviri Dragonguard with Witchman and spam Veil/Warhorn to be a Pseudo DK but at that point, might as well just play my DK tank instead :/

    Warden Tank

    - 5 dragon/5 Werewolf/2 Bloodspawn all sturdy
    - SnB/Icestaff with 5/1/1
    - Dragon 5 piece on both bars with werewolf SnB/Staff

I have been experimenting with different combinations of health and regen food and regen enchants.
Currently running witches brew for a little magicka and magicka regen, all points in stamina, health mundus (werewolf drops my health to low) and magicka recovery glyphs

I run SnB ult and Warhorn/trees for my ults.

This method gives me 3 ways to block
    - Basic SnB
    - Ice staff, with crazy regen when not blocking
    - SnB Ult for emergency (can permablock if needed)

Working great as an offtank set-up when main DK is in ebon/torug/warden
Also working great for 4 man

Ebon, torug, Bloodspawn is also working well with back bar ice staff and magicka recovery glyphs.
Dinosaur Chicken Nuggets - Argonian mNB Tank/Heals (PVP)
Strawberry Semifreddo - Dunmer mSorc DPS // Sunny D-Light - Breton mTemp Heals
Peanut Butter Sandwich - Orc sDK DPS // Kellogg's Frosted Flakes - Argonian mWard Tank/Heals (PVE)

Good points about the Ice Staff; I wasn’t sure if the buff to it would be enough, but that’s encouraging.

Do you run any actual destro abilities, or just keep that bar for self-buffs/heals?

Also, it’s pretty efficient switching back and forth to hit a different resource and let the unused one regen up?

I run elemental blockade for crusher uptime, my nightblade will sometimes run elemental drain for magicka steal, other than that it's all buff/utility in the back bar.

You can also use Prisoner Rags, you just need to hold the sprint key. You dont even need to actually move anywhere, just stay in place and it will give you magicka.

I used to tank vet trails and use ice staff for the same reason, until i got with a guild who only ever want me to have meta sets and builds, which really peeves me off.
I preferred to use my frost staff back bar. 2 pools of blocking resources.

I had the same idea lol. I’m the author of the “Sprint Tank” thread lol.

Seems like a lot to do to get Magicka back. Mostly because you can’t block while you have it activated (to my knowledge). That’s why Desert Rose seemed appealing (that, and it’s a set that seems almost designed to be used tanking, with the added resistances etc. even though it’s LA)

Correct, you can't block, can't use abilities, and your Stam Regen is turned off while you are holding shift.

That's just how Sprint currently works :(.

Problem with Maelstrom SnB is that you still have to heavy attack to get the resources back. Granted, though, there doesn’t appear to be a ICD, so I guess you can get it just as fast as you can low slash + HA.

I’m wondering if, especially with Torugs, just having Crusher on one bar, and remove Weakening and slot a Stamina return enchant on the other. Might need to run a few more tri-glyphs also.

    @Lynx7386

Must be a fairly strict guild. I mean you’d really only be on your backbar for a very short amount of time. Especially since Warden’s don’t have access to Minor Maim without applying Frost, which blockade covers as well as applying Crusher.

I think DPS are going to have to get used to just having 1k less health (which they could easily offset with just have one health enchant in an infused piece). I don’t see Ebon being of much use, when resource gain sets offer so much more utility to the tank (at a VERY minor inconvenience to DPS).
