Unexpected Internal Error and Steam uninstalled the game

So I got the internal error that a lot of people were getting, so I closed the game and tried to relaunch it from Steam after a few minutes. However, it seems that Steam has uninstalled the game and is asking me to reinstall. This is a slight issue because if it did uninstall, then I would have an extra 80 gbs or so on my hard drive. Instead I only have 70 gbs, which should not be possible if the game uninstalled. I'm not sure what to do here because I don't want to have the game installed twice.5aa6dv74q7jf.png

This clearly shows that the game is installed through if you look at the file, while Steam is also telling me to install the game.

I had a similar issue when trying to get ESO to work on Steam via WINE on my Linux box (I needed some extra space). The best way I found to fix it was to copy my game data folder (Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online) elsewhere (another drive , local or network if you have it, to free up space), fully uninstall ESO (Steam already has it gone, so probably just move the launcher elsewhere). Then you download and install the latest ESO launcher. After installation, run the Launcher once to get it updated and set up, but don't update the game. Close the launcher, copy your game data files over the newly installed game data files (don't delete the other files under Zenimax Online\), then run the Launcher again and have it Repair the client. Then you don't have to re-download the 60G+ of data.

The problem is not everyone has the 140 GB+ required to download ESO through steam. I had to delete several games (such as Witcher 3) just to install it the first time.

We are closing this thread because there is already an ongoing discussion regarding the Steam issue here. If you still have issues you can post in the linked thread.

Currently, we are aware that some Steam players are having issues logging into the North American and European PC/Mac megaservers. We are actively investigating and will let you know when we have an update.
