Ashamed to be a “690”

So I pugged a dungeon today with my healer. After the final boss someone whispered me and asked what I was running. I replied with combat physician/ prayer shawl expecting a “that’s wierd”. Nope, should have known. Here comes the giant wall of text about guess what.... the meta. I stopped chasing the meta back in the vet16 day’s for basically this reason. Got sick of meta-boys constantly telling me and anyone else around them that only this “ insert flavor of the month set here” is viable, and if you’re not wearing it you might as well stick to questing.
So here’s the real reason this enraged me. I went back to pugging simply because there’s a lot of new people in the game lately. I figured I get to have fun helping some new people learn some mechanics, skills etc. what I ran into was disgusting. I got to play with a lot of new people, but not the way I expected. One example: got into fungal 2 ( I’m usually tanking). All three people were below cp180. Struggled a bit here and there but beat it. Not a peep in the voice/text chat the entire time,so I whispered them after the last boss to see if they needed any help/ gear/ advice. And you know why they weren’t talking to me? Because next to my name there’s the number “ 690”. Up to this point, all three of them had never made it past the first mob in this dungeon without being kicked. One had to be told he was incompetent and had no business being in a vet dungeon.... before he got kicked. Never even made it to the first mob. This is generally what I hear a lot. They get told they need this set or that set, some kind of monster set ( kind of hard to get without keys), I have the most fun in this game helping people. So thanks meta-boys/ 690 elitists, now I’ve been lumped in with you a-holes and helping people has become harder.
Pray to god meta- boys/ 690 elitists, if you see me in a pug, the other two players aren’t friends of mine. I garuntee if you reveal yourself you will be kicked when the final boss is in execute.
Rant over I guess. Throw your salt my way meta-boys/ 690 elitists, my front porch is a bit icy. I will not be responding to your posts anyway.

As a healer, if the heals were sufficient to keep everyone alive (barring standing in stupid, one-shots, and other stuff you can't heal), why does it matter what you wear to PUG in a random dungeon, normal or vet?

I know, I know, healers can really support the team and eke out every little bit of efficiency for the team with the right support gear and skills. But if you wanted a meta healer for your random dungeon, maybe just maybe, you shouldn't be looking for a PUG healer.

Same thing goes for low-level/low CP players. If you don't want them in your group, make a pre-made group and then they don't have to deal with you kicking them. If you can't form up a full group, then grab a partner - I've done that. I like to tank, but if I'm in a hurry and want guaranteed good DPS, I grab a friend who does good DPS and we queue up, knowing we've got what we need to have a decent run no matter what random players we get.

IDGAF about how much CP you have, so long as you can do your job/hande mechanics properly. I'll give anyone a shot but the minute you start to screw up, I'm calling you on it. At first, I'll be nice, give advice, give them the benefit of the doubt. If they continue to screw up, they get the boot.

    Simple as that.

Easy solution: Stop worrying about what other people (might) think of you.

It's the internet for goodness sake!

Maybe you tell them something in advance like "I'm a nice guy, not an elitist." or whatever.
You reveal yourself best in how you play.

I have 100ish cp and i dont like high levels in my group for the same reason you describe. I actually enjoy helping run lower levels through content in most games and appreciate people who do the same. So kudos to you for helping new players.

Yeah, if people want to have a temper tantrum at being put in with low-level people, then they don't need to be doing PUGs. They need to find a good guild group to do vet dungeons with. Basically, those people are PUGging because they're too lazy to get a group together themselves.
I do PUGs, but only because I don't mind being put in with low levels. (I'm CP 690.)

Most people won't care what you have or what CP you are so long as you're doing your job. If you're dps, you kill stuff. Tanks hold aggro while not running around like they're on fire, and healers keep everyone alive. In casual pve, people usually won't go up-in-arms about what you wear.
The "meta" only really applies to end-game PvE like vet trials, and people wear certain sets a lot because they help them perform their roles better. Healers in trials run SPC and Worm/Mending because those sets help the DPS. Same with the tanks. If your DPS can kill stuff faster, the better.

If it was curiosity or e just wanted to preach you are right.

If you had a few deaths and they trying to help / advise you surely that's just help, like you to the CP180'S....?

If the healer was running combat physician/prayer shawl and still had people dying, I seriously doubt that recommending the meta of Spell Power Cure is going to help all that much...

If my healer is failing to keep people alive through stuff that they should be able to heal, actually, gear set recommendations are the last thing I'm going to get to, after magicka pool, recovery, which heals are most efficient, burst heals, heals over time, buffs, debuffs, and DPS. Most of the meta healer gear is aimed at group support, such as SPC and Worm's, and less at boosting pure healing ability or protection. So Combat Physician and Prayer Shawl are decent sets for someone who wants to help protect the group and keep them alive, even though they see little use in endgame groups because those rely more on healers to provide group buffs on top of raw healing.

Maybe I'm just not enough of an elitist, but I don't expect my random group dungeon healer to be wearing the meta gear for trials. If they aren't keeping me healed when I tank, its usually not their gear that's the problem.

This, now combat physician is an decent set for pug groups because of the shield, prayer shawl is seen as pretty bugged/ worthless because low chance to proc. I would replace it with an sustain or DD set.
Mixing combat physician with SPC might be fun for pugs if you are warden or sorcerer and don't need so much sustain.

CP690 in normal DLC is pretty common as in 5 key run. Would react a bit with the very easy dungeons who are painless in vet pugs to. However I have an stam DK and an magblade I have no idea how to play and would not take them into an vet dungeon.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

You can't hide your alliance rank, but I do see many PVPers deliberately use a lower rank title than their actual rank. I imagine that Grand Overlords get tired of everyone trying to kill them for the achievement every once in a while.

This is true. High level CP players that kick lowbies (for non DLC stuff) are just bad players. Good high level players can easily carry pugs through vet dungeons no problem.

in all vet dungeons, including DLC, the healer can be essentially a full blown DD and heal the group just fine. MagSorcs and Magplars especially. Some people like to perform as best as they can, contributing as much to the group as possible. Some don't. Some feel that so long as they reach the destination (win), they are happy.

There's no way for the guy to know which one of these types of people you are. And if you were the other type, he'd have been doing you a favor and you'd likely be happy he said something.

Coming from an 'elitist' perspective. Cp doesnt matter. I've seen cp 160's do nasty damage/tank like a boss and I've seen 690's stand at the back and snipe. And I'll give you a red hot tip: the sniper gets kicked.

In addition to this, I've seen a CP10 tank the frickfrack out of a vet dungeon before. I wasn't expecting much, and he absolutely blew me away. I let him know he did an excellent job, too. ;)

On the flipside, I run pvp meta (more or less) in dungeons. I'm sure full infused or divines would be better, but kags + spc/sanc is still gonna do a heck of a job. Hell, in normals I'm happy to tank or add in dps if required and the other pugs don't mind a less focussed healer.

I'll be honest, SPC and Mending are very nice to have for the group. By no means necessary, but they're considered top tier for good reason.

I would recommend replacing Prayer Shawl if you can. If you've got it, Sanctuary is a very good option in its place, and almost as easy to obtain.

Combat Physician is pretty good. It's not considered, "meta," but the set performs very nicely if you're set up for crits.
