Lighting vs. Inferno Master Staff Mag Sorc

Hi all. Got my first master staff, it's got the Charged trait and Lighting staff. I love the reduction on destructive reach and the CC (even tho it's easy to dodge). My question is, should I transmute this and keep using it with sharp/nirnhorned? Or is the 8% damage increase from the master inferno so worth it that I should just keep farming and not spend transmute crystals and lose the monster set for this.

Thanks for continually answering my stupid questions btw.
i do not read replies. still playing stamdk for some reason.

I prefer lightning on sorc for a few reasons:

    - Shock clench/reach is a good way to cause the concussed status effect for 8% more damage (minor vulnerability)
    - Shock clench has good splash damage if enemies are clustered, which is heavily buffed by the Master staff
    - Shock stuns enemies in place, keeping them in AoEs. On the other hand inferno knockback can be useful for knocking enemies off walls.
    - Sorcs get 5% more lightning damage, so the 8% from inferno to single target becomes only 3% difference on this skill's damage
    - Lightning heavy attacks cannot be dodged, inferno can

Charged is a very good trait for solo content. Infused is the best trait against a single target. Nirnhoned has some uses for burst and AoE.

Inferno for PvP all the way. You want the damage, and additional fire against vamps is also neat.

The shock one can be useful in PvE with a heavy rotation and Clench. Infused preferred, but charged is alright.

Inferno for solo or small scale.

Lightning for big groups with the Destro ultimate.

Agreed. We need to no longer be able to do any CC and shields or OP so those need to be removed.

Sounds almost like a templar. Wait can your class still escape a fight and have high end burst?

    Crap you're right.
ZOS - Sorcs no longer allowed to crit and bolt escape consumes 80% of your Magicka if casted within 5 seconds of last cast.

If you mainly PVP on your sorc, you will prefer a lightning staff, especially when you run around solo or in small groups. Inferno is fun to kick ppl from outposts and keeps, but the line of fire is coming straight at you and is really, really easy to see, so most ppl will just block it. The lightning ball from destructive reach is coming in a bow though and most players just ignore it. With Miat gone (for the moment at least) I have never seen any player avoiding my lightning destructive reach - but I see loads blocking or dodging the inferno counterpart.

Also keep in mind that lightning attacks can give ppl the concussion status, setting them off balance. Off balance has been given quite the lift with the last patch, so even if its not you who is heavy attacking the guy on the ground, somebody will profit.

Keep in mind: This is all being said with a magsorc in mind who gets higher shock damage. When you play a magblade I would recommend a master inferno staff.

Where’s the vote for perfected vAS staff? That one is a monster.

I see your logic here, and I agree with the bow/arc thing. It’s just that the fire staff is going to do an additional 8% single target without having to apply concussed. Fire master staff gets even better with a shock glyph, because it’ll do both 8% and concussed. And fire is better for burst setup because the heavy attack isn’t a channel.
