Are The DLC Worth Getting?

Hello,

So I just got my first character to Level 50 and I am considering on buying the DLC. Part of me is for it and another part of me is telling me to wait so I am not sure. More or less the 5500 DLC bundle and Shadows of the Hist interest me the most. If there is a sale soon, I will most likely buy them. I would like to see/know what is coming to the Crown Store too, just in case there is something that interests me.

Feedback welcome,
-Yzalirk

in my opinion all but the dungeon DLC are worth getting, if you like to run dungeons tho, you may want to get them. IDK ive enjoyed all the ones i have purchased besides shadow of the hist, got the DLC on the day it came out and have only done one of the dungeons and only twice, so it kinda depends on what you like to do

For me personally, I'd rather spend that money on ESO+ and have access to DLC without purchasing it. Crafting bag is hard to pass up.

Thief's guild and Dark Brotherhood are special, as they offer a lot of fun, if you like this kind of gameplay, but not that much, if you don't. Both are smaller areas, but if you are into this kind of stuff, you will enjoy them.

ESO+ is worth it just for the craft bag, so if you are looking to get any of the DLC's, I concur with @Ley, spend your money on ESO+.

If you like stealing and murdering, get Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild. They sync up very nicely.

If you like mixed PVP and PVE, grab the Imperial City.

If you like hard dungeons that emphasize mechanics and teamwork, grab the DLC packs and the Imperial City to get the DLC dungeons.

If you like questing in interesting locations, Orsinium and Clockwork City are great fun. Orsinium is considerably larger and more detailed.

I second this - if you are into crafting at all, it will give you so much comfort in using the system and free up so much space in your bank and inventory. It is convenient in a way, which is hard to describe, but you will not want to play without it anymore.

Orsinium is the best DLC they'd done so far, in my opinion. I definitely recommend that one.

I bought the thieves+orsinium+dark brotherhood bundle, and now eso+. No regrets. Well worth it imo if you play a lot, the Hist dungeons are a tier above the vanilla ones. I cant live without craft bag and double bank space atm. Also note that you get free crowns for eso+, i bought a costume and banker helper for mine, mucho practicalo.

Orsinium/Wrothgar is like a way above-average regular alliance zone. (The only one I'm sure I'd rank over it is Rivenspire.)

Imperial City is good only if you like its special features:
    • 2 dungeons, 1 of which drops the Spell Power Cure set.
    • The odd hybrid of PvE/PvP.

Thieves Guild is good if you want to play a thief character. Period. It has a small number of quests, and whether you enjoy those quests or not depends on whether you like stealing in this game. Similar, it gives you a skill line that is great if and only if you like stealing.

I presume similar things are true about Dark Brotherhood and assassination. There seem to be a few side quests that don't relate to assassination, but based on limited play I think they're rather lame quests that happen to be given by some of the cooler side characters you've already met (the Vanos siblings, Crafty Lerisa, etc. -- I've heard there's even a Gabriele Benele quest, although I haven't seen it).

Clockwork City is ... interesting. It has a different kind of artwork and feel -- more like steampunk than medieval fantasy, complete with robot jokes. (The guard robot that was imperfectly reprogrammed into being a retail clerk greets customers with "How may I detain you today?") A lot of running through machine-lined tunnels. A thief character might be best there, actually. Also, the main villain is clearly based on Donald Trump, so if your politics are right-wing, it might annoy you that an anti-immigration leader who insists that his subordinates keep praising him is cast as the bad guy.

Shadows of the Hist has 2 excellent dungeons(if you like dungeons where mechanics matter), but Imperial City DLC is probably the best bang for the buck....you get 2 dungeons and a nice PvP/PvE hybrid area. I personally hate the thieves guild and dark brotherhood DLC because I just dont care for overland questing.

If you ask me, you should subscribe, even if its only for a month, sample all the DLC and find what you like best. I find the steady stream of new DLC to be worth the subscription when you factor in the crafting bag and the crowns(which you can then spend on DLC in case you decide to let your subscription lapse at some point in the future and still retain that content)

Orsinium and Imperial City are worth buying. The rest are ranging from meh to can skip (Dark Brotherhood, Clockwork City).

I have nothing to add personally that hasn't been mentioned already. Frankly, I'd grab Orsinum and Imperial City at the very least. You can also wait and save for that ESO+ and then sample the DLC's. ESO+ will give you 1500 crowns a month as well.

I've been purchasing the Zone DLC's as the release. But as much as I enjoy the dungeons, I have found it hard to justify purchasing them. Instead I've had ESO plus off and on and play them at the times I have it active. Orsinuim and Cyrodiil/Imperial City seemingly to be the largest and best value but I enjoy the others and the skills/perks that come with them.

Note: I have also purchased the Morrowind chapter. That presents its own argument of DLC/Chapter but overall, I thought it an acceptable purchase at time of release. More so now that it might be cheaper or when on sale.

I will add that Imperial City adds IC prison and White Gold Tower, both are very difficult dungeons on vet and are no cake walk in normal mode either. Frankly, unless you are interested in the sewers, I'd skip the Imperial City DLC.

Orsinum has Maelstrom which is a great way to go insane on veteran. But is a great DLC area.

Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild are a lot of fun, especially if you like to kill things and steal.

I got a lot out of the TG dlc, and I really like Abah's Landing: there are lots of places to explore and ways to break line of sight with the guards. It also comes with Maw of Lorkhaj, a Khajiit-themed trial.

Dark Brotherhood's zone is "meh," but The Sweetroll Killer is my favorite quest in the game. I really like running around the Imperial City as a nightblade - I don't get ganked very often - but you need a group for some of the quests. The design in CWC is gorgeous, the subtle sound changes especially, including in the mini-trial, and it ties closely to Morrowind and the upcoming chapter.

If you like dungeons with mechanics then definitely pick those ones up, but if you're meh then skip them. If you don't own/rent them, you won't get them in the random queue (which some people think is a good thing).

Honestly, hell yeah. They always take their time with DLC (even the dungeons) and it’s all feels so much smoother than he base game content, richer and more appealing. I have played all DLC and here is my opinion:

    •Great voice acting
    •New characters
•Graphics of the DLC landscape look better than base game
    • Amazing quests & Storyline
•Many Easter eggs/jokes (more elder scrolls like)
•New mechanics (Example: Hiding in barrels introduced in the Thieves Guild DLC)

I honestly wished they had put as much effort into the base game as they did these DLC’s and expansions. Even Orsinium competes with 2017 & 2018 DLCs and does not feel old from 2015.

I’d highly recommend Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood is Orsinium to spend your crowns on. They might do a Theives Guild sale for the collectors edition in March because they did that last year for the 1 year anniversary. Or wait until Summer/Winter for the next non dungeon DLC and get the collectors edition.

Mephala’s realm and Murkmire will be coming this year/early next year so you might want to save your crowns for those. Hopefully ZOS put the next expansion up for crowns and then you can purchase that for around 3000 - 4000 crowns.

    This.
The DLCs have such better quality than the Base game its crazy. It just goes to show that the base game really could use an update.
But the Dungeons are some of the best content in the game. Get the DLCs, they're great

Just get ESO Plus. You get everything. The crafting bag. More bonuses and STILL get teh 1500 crowns. If you consider $15 buys 1500 crowns, you are basically rewarded with a ton of things just by promising to buy 1500 crowns a month.

    Depends on what you like.
That is what the DLC is about picking and choosing what kind of content you want.

Thieving your thing? assassination your play style? Like Small scale PVP? Like Orcs or perhaps just want to try your hand at Maelstrom arena? Have nostalgia for Morrowind? perhaps you'd like a new class or battlegrounds. Do you like steampunk aesthetic, always fascinated with Sotha Sil?

If you like running dungeons and want more challenge than the base game gives you there is the Dungeon DLCs.

    Yes.

Also I would suggest getting ESO+ for Dungeon DLC and buying the Zone DLC, that way you still have access to zone sif you cancel ESO+

This, now it depend on that you like to do, if you hate questing you probably pass TG and DB ones, CWC is questing and an trial. Imperial city is small scale PvP and two dungeons.
You have 3 dungeon dlc each with 2 dungeons.
You can buy an month of ESO+ to test them out do the quests and farm gear.

I have always been eso+ so not relevant.

Yes you can get it for a single month, but you will have to cancel the recurring membership. Any gear or such you acquired from the DLC zones you keep and can use. You wont be able to go to the DLC zones though.

Personally i would buy the ESO+ for 3 months and then decide if you want to keep it or not. You will pay $45 for it as opposed to $40 for the 5500 crown pack. The benefits i find most useful from ESO+

    * Access to all DLC content( doesnt include morrowind because thats a chapter)
    * A craft bag with unlimited storage all things craft related( mats, style mats, trait mats, even fishing bait goes in here)
    * Your bank space is doubled.
    * Your furnishing space in houses is doubled.
    * 1500 crowns per month. ( total 4500 crowns for 3 months/$45)

Then, if you can live without the craft bag, extra bank space and extra furnishing space, cancel. You will have 4500 crowns to spend on other things. Personally i find ESO+ to be of far more value than buying each DLC or picking and choosing content i want.

With the fact that the DLCs have gear that is bound to the group(dungeon and trial gear) and cant be bought from the crown store or guild stores, my answer is yes. There is a couple of ways... Buy the DLCs, get ESO plus or both. I do both so that if I ever decide to end my sub, I still have access.
