some rational thoughts

the worst part of playing an mmo is all the hate that regularly flows from its player base. this is unfortunately a corner stone of any mmo that has ever or will ever be.

so i wanted to make a thread based on some rational thinking to give others a bit of relief from the hate filled forums.

-Bugs happen. When you work in coding/software development, you learn this very quickly. no matter how much you test something, its impossible to anticipate every possibility of something going wrong. also everything can look right and then a tiny piece of code can cause a whole bunch of problems elsewhere.

that seems to be what has happened here. testing was done. things looked good on their end. then it was implemented and bugs happened that weren’t anticipated. that happens ALL THE TIME in coding. i believe ZOS did and adequate amount of testing. i don’t believe they intentionally released a bugged update.

i’m also not going to crucify the developers for this. there has been a lot of talk lately in the coding/software dev field about how coding has superceded our ability to actually understand it. hence why there was that stock market glitch a month ago. no one anticipated that coding glitch, and that actually had a real world impact, where this game does not.

do bug suck? of course. but they happen. they always will happen and they don’t always happen for a reason. in fact they hardly ever happen for a reason. they just have to be dealt with as they happen.

clearly, some part of Update 17’s code conflicted with the live version’s. resulting in the bugs we are now experiencing. this may not have have presented itself during testing, it won’t always do that. but calling the devs, incompetent? thats a big stretch imo.

donu have my qualms with ZOS over pricing? yep. but when it comes to bugs and glitches, they are inpossible to stop from happening, but they can be fixed once found. and thats what this community should focus on. now not every bug is going to get fixed. thats never going to be the case. and honestly, sone radical acceptance there will make people a lot happier.

but stringing up the devs will do nothing except decrease community engagement from them. i know i would interact with players less if this was the kind of regular hate i got.

Stuff happens. and its not always good. the quicker that can be accepted, the sooner you can roll with the punches and not let stuff like this ruin your life.

and as for the banning? that is ZOS’s discretion, and i reapect that. quite simply, if we want to use their product, then we have to play by their rules. and that goes for any online game. if you don’t like it? okay thats valid. but in that case, stop playing, go to school, get degrees in computer science and software dev, and make your own game.

but i can guarentee you, your game will have bugs. and you WILL get hate from your players like you are giving ZOS here.

so why not just chill, and breathe a little bit. things will stabilize as they always do.

I think we sadly live in a time where it's more common practice to just slam everyone, demand heads roll etc. than it is to accept that human error can sometimes happen.

ESO has since launch had a bumpy ride and even I have been on the blame ZOS and complain about everything band wagon in the past. However I also realised how much that was ruining my enjoyment of the game, and took a step back to look at it rationally as you say.

Yeah yesterday and the deployment of this patch sucked. I get people are upset and post about it, that's cool but it's always worth stepping back and thinking and cooling off before posting.

Come on now, there are no all caps words, nothing is censored, there are paragraphs... I am fussy about capitalising thing as well but this is a major improvement on most posts we get on the forums.

I also wrote it from my phone. My points still stand however.
