Most of you don't understand that, you just think that. It was overkill to have to buy the game AND pay to play it every month.
But it's also overkill in the opposite direction to make it free to play. We don't need bots and the other garbage that comes with free to play games, the way it is now is the way it should stay.

And you know their cost structure, revenues, investment plans, cash flow and profits to know what "enough" is?

Osubaker33✭✭✭A Subscription only game is always best for the players that don't mind paying for it IF you can maintain a healthy player base. Unfortunately in today's market it is hard to do that when faced with so many free to play competitors.
Why? Developer Incentives.
A Subscription based model incentivizes the developer to concentrate on new content that will both keep current customers happy and paying thier subscription and drawn in new ones. IE keep churn as low as possible.
Free to play/Buy to play incentivizes the developer to monitize silly little things as much as possible. Spending time on things like horse reskins and costume reskins that a sub game never does. The 80/20 rule is in full effect in this model. IE less than 20% of customers bringing in more than 80% of the revenue.1 -

And here´s why:
The game IS free to play (after youve bought it, and it doesnt cost that much for the basic edition), but youll probably want ESO+ or something to get the most out of it. Considering how much time you spend on ESO if you play like I do ATM, it´s not a high price.
And some things should be behind a small paywall to keep certain... people.. out. People who contribute little, and don´t care since it´s free anyway. Some might even just cheat, since they have nothing to lose. If you can´t pay even a small fee, I am not sure your presence would improve the general experience of that game

At least right now the imbeciles and trolls have to make a $20-$40 investment. You cannot fathom how quickly things would plummet if it went F2P.
At best, I'd give F2P up to level 15 or so, with limited access to other features, but they have F2P weekends from time to time for those that want to try before they buy.Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

✭✭I'd like to see the stats on how many people actually start playing on a free to play weekend and how many of them go on to buy the game. I'd also say that if you have waited for a free play weekend to try the game, you probably won't be rushing to spend money on DLC's and in the Crown store.
I'm sure it's like the free ESO+ free trials they have, which are opportunities for players to stock up a craft bag and double bank space with supplies to get them through to the next ESO+ free trial.Australian on PS4 NA server.
