Shadows of the Hist and Horns of the Reach have been out for a while now, with Dragon Bones mere hours away how do you feel about Dungeon-only DLC in general?
Thus far they have only really added two dungeons per release, 3 sets and 1 monster helm for each dungeon with a myriad of achievements (almost entirely Veteran Mode based). As as a result, I've never really found them to have much appeal as an actual product. I made the mistake of actually buying SotH with Crowns before I was on ESO+, and it just feels like wasted money.
After all, what does your purchase give you: Group Finder "pollution" that nobody wishes to run with randoms, a handful of sets most of which don't see any use and for most of the population... 1-5 Normal Mode achievements then 20-30 Veteran Achievements and rewards that never gain progress as a result. It sort of feels like you've paid to be punished, in a way, since if you're not capable of running at the Veteran Hard Mode level you won't see a heap of the DLC's content to begin with.
Not I'm not saying "content for more skilled players is bad, dumb it down for us scrublets!", not at all. But these Dungeon DLC's are very focused on that particular group and they really don't provide much of anything to other players. Enjoy the Normal Mode story quest the first few days, the scenery and pretty things then... it's just another dungeon in the pool. Every Dungeon DLC I'm far more excited for the base Update that comes with it, like the Outfit System coming soon.... changes that I can enjoy for more than just half an hour. But then I'm not the target audience for this kind of DLC, I suppose.
It just seems strange to me, to go to the effort of making a DLC product that casts such a small net of buyers. You can buy them separately after all, but there's almost no incentive to buy them compared to story DLC's, Chapter's that kind of thing: they all provide far more content than just repeating the same instance until you're sick of it. If they weren't unlocked as part of ESO+ I'd be shocked if there were many sales at all (outside maybe PvPers looking at a new "broken OP" set, as has happened before... *cough*).
Am I too picky, and just not who ZOS wants to buy that kind of DLC: for me, a Dungeon DLC drop is just sort of there and the base game Update with it is always more exciting. Surely they could be made more appealing to a wider market somehow?
