You pit two equally skilled players against each other with one in bis gear, including vma weapons and great stats with the other in subpar to average gear, who wins 9 out of 10 encounters?

That's kind of a bad example. If the players are truly of equal skill, why shouldn't the gear give one player an edge? That's like saying "If I give two equally skilled Olympic athletes different quality gear, where one gets high quality gear and the other gets subpar to average gear, who wins?" If their skill is in fact equal, you've set up the gear (and luck) to be the determining factor.

Oh, but what about a more skilled player wearing sub-par or average gear vs a less skilled player in BIS gear?
    1. The more skilled player will still win, most likely. I've been the less skilled player with the gear and build that everyone was screaming about on the forums and I didn't do so well with it.
    2. Short of certain proc sets that ZOS keeps nerfing, there are very few pieces of gear that will carry a poorly played build.
    And finally,
    3. Unless that skilled player is deliberately challenging themself, skilled PVPers don't wear subpar to average gear. They wear the gear that suits their build and their playstyle. Knowing how to gear oneself appropriately is in fact a part of player skill.

I love it when PVE players say that pvp’ers are toxic, and then they start bashing pvp players and their personal preferences in the same sentence.

    #hypocritemuch?

Beware the battle cattle, but don't *fear* the battle cattle!

Well, this is mutually both-sided - think of when PvPers use the word "casuals" in a despicable way to describe players, who aren't able "to roll a new character" within hours to level 50, but for whom it takes weeks or even months or maybe even a year or more to get through the content. There is no rush for a PvEer - because "endgame" means "end of game" for them, and is not the beginning of a desired PvP-experience. I am a casual and I couldn't care less about PvP in this game, but I tolerate that it is there and people have fun with it. I am not hating it, but I dislike the "elitist" attitude of some PvPers, as if their way to play the game would be the only way to do it. Why can't they just be as tolerant and say, ok, these people like to take it slow and they will never be any competitive, but this does not make them a worse player - just a different one.

i am a pver and hate pvp and avoid it as much as possible
I got caltrops finally and will never, EVER, go back. Ever. Well, unless the Skoria shoulders go on sale at the vendor because I can't get those things to drop in Grilion's chest for nothing.

PvP(really though, PvDoor) is the worst thing I've ever done on the game. Two completely different mindsets, builds, and motivations.

Going round and round, capturing keeps only for them to fall 5 minutes later, folks farming AP on scrolls, and silly fights over a stupid farm.... and I thought PvE was mindless.

This plus ganking. PVP is evil. I have never had a more miserable gaming experience.

"Instead of taking the best of the dolmens (predictable rotation), the best of the geysers (scalability based on number of players), and the best of the dragons (map location and health indicators) and adding them together to make a fun and dynamic world event scenario, they gave us....... harrowstorms." https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/6850523/#Comment_6850523
