My Templar tanking build

I tank on all classes but when I look for suggested builds, normally I can only find DK and Warden. I think that has changed recently but I wanted to share my Templar build and see if anyone had suggestions, critiques, or questions. I've used this build on Vet HM (haven't tried DLC Vet HMs though) to great success.

Two of the issues I have with the Templar (compared to Warden/DK) is lack of AoE snare and lack of chains/portal. I've tried this build with a backbar destro staff and enjoy it but I'm using double S&B for 5/5/2 bonuses. Swarm Mother's Monster set is the reason for that. Combined with Inner Fire (or either morph) it helps eliminate a weakness in my opinion.

My stamina is fairly low but with Repentance for trash pulls and HA on bosses, I have no problem keeping block up when needed. Self-buffed I'm close to the resistance soft cap of 50%.

For gear right now, Swarm Mother's combined with Plague Doctor and Thunderbug seems to work well. I've ran Livewire but it doesn't seem to proc through Blazing Shield and 5/5/2 is important for this build. There are many tanking sets that work well though.

Bar 1 S&B
Ritual of Retribution- Cleanse, HoT, and DoT
Blazing Shield
Repentance- main source of Stam recovery for trash pulls
Restoring Focus- Major Resolve/Ward and Minor Vit/Prot
Pierce Armor
Empowering Sweep (ult)- low cost ult with damage reduction

Bar 2 S&B
Luminous Shards- ranged AoE attack to start pulls with great group utility
Reflective Light/flex spot- DoT/Snare that grants Major Prophecy
Honor the Dead- great for PuG groups when the healer gets overwhelmed
Heroic Slash- maim that grants Minor Heroism
Inner Fire- ranged taunt, works well with Swarm Mother's monster set
Solar Prison (ult)/Warhorn (ult)- Honestly, I'm half a bar away from level 4 for Warhorn. Never cared much for pvp... group utility would be worth it though. I'll have Warhorn by this weekend.

I find this build very fun to play!!! Thoughts? Suggestions? Questions?

Oh, Argonian potion passive helps with stam regen too.

Buff Food: Longfin Pasty with Melon Sauce

CP are fairly standard tanking ones.

I don't think you have enough health to bother with the blazing shield. It would be better to just run radiant ward.

Replace Plague doctor with Ebon Armor its just a better tank set. I don't know much about thunderbug, I guess a bunch of resistances is good. But I think Torags Pact is just going to be better overall.

Oh okay you nearly have warhorn.

I don't like Luminous Shards it doesn't really do anything without the stun...I run Volcanic Rune so I can knock trash about. I really like reflective light so I haven't switched it out. Alcast runs power of the light to trigger prophecy but he has much more stam.

the biggest thing i see, is that i would drop the lady, you don't really need cap resists, and change it to the atronach. it seem you are a mag tank, with only 800 regen, you are going to be hurting.

then there is what @Narvuntien said, get ebon. Thunderbug is also not that great, i would prolly switch that out for heavy seducers on a templar blazing shield tank.

also also, if you intend to using blazing, you might want to change Restoring Focus to channeled focus, the 8% damage reduction applies to blazing shield and lower the amount that the shield explodes for and you get more magic regen, 480 to be precise. you want like at least 1500 regen on that kind of tank.

Here are my numbers with a food buff... I am a little concerned I don't have enough hp. But I haven't maxed undaunted yet.

This is Dragongaurd + Spectres Eye + Shadowrend..

So that dodge change and my radiant ward shield mitigate a lot of damage.

I think perhaps I should be using Torags instead of Spectres eye but it gives spell resist instead of physical resist that I want.

With cleansing focus get up to 30K resists.

I tanked vAA on my magplar yesterday. 5 axes, no issues with a good healer. But I doubt it will work now after the patch, because I was running 8x sturdy and 3x block cost reduction on jewelry, and that setup just got a massive nerf with today's patch.

The gear was 2x chudan (probably a bad choice for trials with little movement, but this was basically my dungeon setup and I spontaneously joined), 5x vampire cloak, 5x bloodthorn's touch. I will replace VC with ebon set though before I do this again, since DDs often balance around the tank giving them an extra 1k HP, and we had a couple unnecessary deaths because of that.

However I will also level a DK tank now. Templar is nice in dungeons, because it can be turned into a 1-man army with significant group support for 4-mens, but DKs make better specialized tanks, and that's what is needed in larger groups, where your heals are dwarfed by those of 2 competent dedicated healers.
