night mothers gaze on a tank?

Been playing around with different gear set ideas for my characters and this popped up. Its a crafted set, so can be made in heavy, and causes critical hits to reduce enemy physical resistance for 5 seconds. The idea would be to combine this with powerful assault on a stamina Sorceror tank - that way your caltropa/hurricane crits are constantly reducing enemy resistances while you buff allies. the extra crit nmg offers should help with critical surge healing as well.

Thoughts?

If you are going with a group support tank build, you might want to compare that to Torug's Pact with the uptime on the Crusher/Weakening enchantment. Torug's in the usual choice for tank, but that might be because in trials, its often a DPS wearing NMG. I'm not sure how they'd compare in 4-man content.

I have just 2 days ago thrown together a 4 man tank setup with 5 alkosh 5 nmg and a monsterset for my stam sorc. The armor debuffs are great, but it is quite squishy and feels a bit undersustained to me. I do however still have my 64 points in stam, so i could easily push my HP higher if i wanted.

The biggest issue with stam sorc tank in my view is that there is not really a way to sustain stamina while blocking, which is not an issue for most content, but some DLC fights can get quite hairy. That said, im very new to stam tanking, so that is certainly an area to improve for myself.

Edit: as for the crusher uptime without torugs, it is possible to get very close to 100% uptime even without torugs, as an infused weapon has a 5 sec CD with a 5 sec duration. You only loose somewhere around 600-800 armor reduction from the torugs bonus.

Yes. Torug's pact would be better. Uptime of NMG for a tank would be extremely low so to low crit chance and low frequency of damage opportunities. Pretty much any set would be better.

If you're mostly running in PUGs I think it's a poor choice for a tank as it's a commonly used set for stam DPS.

I think it could be useful in the right pre-made 4 man group. I have 3 main conerns:

    1. You might end up in a lot of groups where someone was already planning on running it.
    2. It is only a physical penetration set, totally useless if your DPS are all magic, which is why Alkosh and Torugs are superior for a tank.
    3. The set itself does give crit, but most tanks dont really run a lot of crit, nor do they do a lot of AOE damage (a tank sorc with hurricane, would def be above average here). I worry that you wouldnt have particularly high uptimes of the debuff on things. A stam sorc DPS can keep the debuff up in the high 90s in terms of percent uptime. If you cant do that, I wouldnt run it.

Perfectly viable. In fact I think NMG is one of the best support sets if you have AoE abilities. Pair that with Vicious Ophidian and Stormfist for sustain on a Stamina Sorcerer and dungeon mobs will just melt. If you are running with a weak group that's the way to go. 0L/5M/2H or 1L/5M/1H is the best combo due to increased stats, including health.

I usually gave 30-40% crit chance or higher on the stamsorc tank due to being khajiit.

I forgot about torugs though, will probably go with that instead. I don't have alkosh yet.

Dark deal is your ticket to stamina sustain as a sorc- concert magicka into health and stamina. It has a quick cast time and just a short delay before it takes effect

Heavy armour restoration staff will get your mana back full in heavy attacks them add dark deal and crit surge with dark deal you get more Stam so probably be a good idea to add a Stam heal or damage

If you only have stamina DPS in your group, this would be very similar to the more common Alkosh tanking, and much easier to use. NMG does not help Magicka DPS (no spell resistance reduction).

I think one of @Nolic1 's builds used heavy NMG on a tank, inspired idea I thought. Should be viable on classes that don't rely on sets for resource management or crowd control. Only issue is it relies on crit damage to proc it, so it's less likely to go off - should be easily counterable by slotting DOT's rather than DD (I'm assuming it can proc on dot damage too - not checked)

The only real question is 'Is Torug's better' ?

Nightmothers gaze on a tank in dungeons or normal trials works great if you build around it. If you run 5 ebon, rings, sword and shield with 5 nightmothers and even with blood spawn or lord warden with infused weapons crusher on both bars you still get good uptime on crusher and have a perk of applying the other pen bonus from nightmothers even with a 41% weapon crit. The problem many have is it does not offer the mag pen but all vet dungeon enemies are weaker then trial mobs and normal trial mobs only have a 14,380 resistances so taking them down is easier as well so no need for max pen. Nightmothers is fine on a tank but if your running trials for the end game score do not run it or you get alot of pissy people in your group complaining your not running bis.

And with synergy's being easier to activate in the new update "tested this" its almost better for DPS to run Alkosh this update sense they can activate during there rotation with out breaking out of it. Off Tanks can run alot of different sets if your looking for more support run spell power with a higher stam and vigor or run the powerful assault set you can get it through tel var stones almost as good as spell power but works off vigor, caltrops and war horn so have 3 different ways to proc it and can be block cast with all 3 skills.
