Pricing in guild traders, seriously?

You know, when you go to the supermarket you usually see these kind of offers where you get a better price on a product if you buy more than one at the same time. Why is this the other way around in this game?

Like this: Let's say the price on Dreugh Wax is commonly 7000-7500 in most guild traders, so far all is fine. But why is it, that in like 60-80% of the cases people charge MORE than this if they sell multiple items? If you buy two, people usually charge 16-20k. You got 15 other guys selling one Dreugh Wax for 7000-7500, and then there's a number of people selling stacks of 2 for 16k each, and further down you got some wacko who decides that 80k for 8 Dreugh Wax is the perfect price, while they same one also sells stacks of two for 16k each. I mean, wtf? "Buy 10, pay for 11 and a half!".

Are people just hoping that people can't count, and pay more without realizing it? Are they hoping people are so lazy, that they won't bother buying 8 separate items (usually widely available) - and will pay that much more because they want to click purchase only once instead of eight times?

I'm speaking for Xbox EU now, and I don't know if the situation is the same on other platforms. I haven't really bothered to check out the fee for submitting these items to traders, if it differs that much for posting two 7.5k vs. one 16k item - but I strongly doubt that's some sort of explanation - especially since we have these people suddenly trying to peddle 8 wax for 80k, which is quite common. I have been talking to quite some people I know about this, and everyone is like "Dunno, guess they hope people are stupid", "they are just ****, buy the cheaper ones" or whatever so I doubt it's just me that missed some vital point here. I mean, I doubt people care about their fee for posting 2 vs 1 wax, and rather buy two of these numerous single 7000 ones instead of their two waxes for 8k each? It doesn't make any sense to me.

If I sell like excess wax, tempers or resins I sort of always offer some kind of discount to the price. I mean, I will sell them all, but I rather sell all the Rosin I wish to get rid of at once and get 1000 gold less, than wait a week to have it all sold. Most people don't seem to reason that way? Enlighten me please... ;-D

Well that's the way of economics: prices are set at an amount people still pay for them. You want lower prices then everyone should stop buying items...

The reason you see those over price stacks on the stores is because they don't sell. Cheap stacks already gone within half an hour they were posted.

Those are Temper prices on PCNA, but... he's XBEU, so... I guess that's what wax goes for over there.

When it comes to someone selling bundles for more than everyone else there's two things that can happen. Either they've simply got a per unit price they're aiming for, and didn't bother to search their own store, or they're bad at math.

They probably either can't count themselves or are counting on your inability to count, so to say :p Also yeah, cheap stacks go fast. On PC you can use TTC to find nice cheap stuff(and yes, you oftentimes can indeed find stacks for cheaper than individuals but they do go fast), on console, well...good luck.

Agreed It's common, however some people buy 8 stacks for the convenience, especially if the traders are light on gold mats, it gets it done.

When trying to apply reason to "most people", I find it best to take the most logical, common sense, obvious to anyone with more than half a brain cell answer and turn it upside down. That way you'll know what they'll do on any given topic in advance.

Consider what people can make in an hour while farming..

Then consider how long it takes for those people to go around individually to every store to try and find a bargain..

Then consider how much money they're losing by not farming while wasting their time running around guild stores.

That is the reason I'll buy over-price (and really that's just set by players anyway). I just want my stuff and get on with my day. I'm not going to haggle or bargain shop to save me a couple of thousand.

Maybe not the same for everyone, but I have better things to do than search guild traders. And the people selling rare items in high quantities know that. They took the time to do it so sure, whatever, I'll pay it.. because I'm not going to take that time.

You see things like that all the time. Its why the prices on traders can vary so much. The lowest 10% of an item might be around 150 gold/unit while the highest 10% might average around 9000/gold a unit. Many people just dont understand the market value of what they are selling so they put anything in there and then it sits in the store for 30 days or they sell it way to cheap and miss out on making 10 times as much on it as they could.

The thing that really makes me facepalm, and i see this a lot, is people will actually sell something for less than the vendor price of it. The other day, i bought something from a guild trader, think it was slime or gall or something, that was .50/unit. It vendors for 2/unit. So i bought the whole stack and when i went to the merchant to clean out loot, i sold it and make 300 gold profit lol. I see that all the time with people selling things cheaper than what its worth to just vendor them.

What I constantly see is people charging 10x more than average price. Sometimes I will look up some item on TTC find a good deal...go to that trader and see the item has appatently been purchased and relisted on the same store for 10x what I wanted to pay.

Concerning the actual prices, this is Xbox EU - so I'm sure it's different from other platforms. I suppose the number of people hiring Chinese bots etc. greatly affects the market value etc. These people doesn't only trade in wax, of course. I know of a couple of guys (that I have reported, yes - without results, yes), that I see call out "ltb wax, tempers, kutas" etc. But the main engine behind it is indeed wax trade.

I could get the idea of buying 8 tempers/rosin/wax for a higher price, if the availability was low, but it rarely is so it's just weird imho. This is not a supply and demand issue, it's something I just can't understand. "Buy two, pay for three!".

Some like it while others beg for tight regulations.

I really doubt you read what I wrote? Short recap: Dreug Wax goes for 7500. Some guy sells one for 7500. SAME guy sells 2 for 16 000 or even more - say even 18 000 isn't all unusual. Why?

This isn't some odd unusual occurrence either, but more a rule than an exception. Why?

I'm not asking for regulations, cartels, new rules or anything - I simply wonder if there's something I've missed, why are people doing it? Normally, you would probably see someone selling two 7.5k wax for 14-14.5k, if it was the way the world normally works, at least not MORE than 15k.

Part of the problem is that the guild vendor interface doesn't have decent search & filtering options. If you could get it to sort by unit price, the people putting up multiples for higher price/unit would sell a lot less and might change their ways.

Of course, you also need keyword to make that effective - sorting by ascending price/unit isn't all that helpful when you've got a couple dozen different crafting mats mixed together.

(I'll admit, I've been spoiled a bit by Star Trek Online's exchange interface. So many sorting options. On the other hand Secret World Legends' is almost as bad as ESO's. But at least it has keyword search.)

    Hahahahahahahahaha....

OP in other words: How do you dare charge more than what I think is ok? Be ashamed!

This is a market. People can charge whatever they want. If it's too expensive in your opinion, don't buy it. If people think they can get away with charging higher prices, let them. They either find someone who pays the price or they don't.

Does this merit a forum complain post? I wouldn't think so, but apparently it must be complained about.

    It is absent of regulation.

But with so many people excluded from being able to Sell it is nowhere near an "open market" and THAT is why prices are so high.

Well, in a real world economy you save money on buying in bulk for a number of reasons, packaging, logistics cost, self space, etc. in this game none of those are present. The article isn’t finite, there are as many waxes as the farmer/crafter has the time to obtain. I’m not saying 1 wax at x and then 2 at x*2+10-15% is reasonable but it is what it is. If you don’t want to pay those prices seek the commodity yourself.
