Am i the only one who is bothered with the fact that you cannot change the looks of your actual gear and only use an overlay outfit ?

If the appearance of the gear a character wears is style X I don't see it matters what the style of the gear that's hidden looks like.

I personally think it's a great system. Many of us have different sets of gear so the outfit system is perfect. Find something new to wear, equips it and the outfit in use is still the appearance we see.

Once someone creates an addon to change 'outfits' it will be a perfect system... until then, it's better than changing armor because I can maintain the same armor but have multiple outfits... otherwise I'd have to change my armor itself every time I wanted a different look. Who wants to farm armor just to have multiple pieces to create different outfits?!?

They just need to add the option to hide other armor parts not just helms and it will be near perfect :)

I guess it means you could always revert the changes with using it as an overlay.

Also people would spam mats out of the system if it changed the actual armour through deconstruction

Considering we have to pay every time we want to change a piece (or even dye it) I'm ok with it being an overlay. It means I'll put together 1 outfit for each character using my favourite styles for them, and then switch to it when I'm bored with their armour or the best stats is on something ugly.

I would prefer a system where we can change actual armour pieces, but it would cost me a lot more and as a result I'd probably end up using it less.

Yeah, that'd be nice. Also access to the Legerdemain clothes would be a perk.

Here's the thing, especially for characters that are still gearing up, this is way better. You can change your equipment without breaking your outfit. The only thing you can't do is change your weapon type, and... honestly, that's fine. That's a sacrifice I'm willing to live with. I'm not a fan of the gold cost on dying, and some of the styles do seem a bit steep, but, you know what? Screw it, this is cool. This is really cool.

But when you reach a high level you dont have so many sets , so if they would charge only a small amount every time you want to change the style it would be great ...

Are you kidding? It's when you reach endgame you really have many setups and builds :P On my Tanks 70% of the inventory is full of gear and I don't have any character with less then two sets/builds..

    1. You could already change your actual gear with crafting.
    2. They are only offering overlay from the crafting catalogue so it’s the same looks in a new way. Just not sure why I’m paying the game vs using materials.....I’m a crafter, this is very weird.

I keep asking, who am I paying, where are they, and why are they charging me for something I learned to do?

They didn’t fulfill the request to change the look of your current gear, it’s something entirely different. While I don’t have issue with the options to craft a cosmetic outfit I do have issue with their decision to monetize something I can do 100% in the game by forcing real money transactions per character vs for the entire account.

There should not be a real money cost to this, however this feature should be locked under paid DLC. Additional slots should work just like expanding a bank. I’m o k with both ingame gold and crown options, but not o k with some of the crown only options.

Not sure how this relates to your poll so I didn’t vote

Of course overlay is much better. You do not need to care about look of each item you use. You can swap items between toons, change gear in any situation and still look the way you like.

I have medium stealthy gear that is very squishy but I like the look so to be able to swop to heavy when stealth just does not do the job and retain my "look" is good by me.

    1. You could already change your actual gear with crafting.

The problem with this is that, back in the day, crafted sets were your best (or near best) build options. Unfortunately, that changed with the Imperial City release, when the hidden crafted buff went away, and drop sets were suddenly on par with crafted ones. Since then, there's been a serious push for a way to change the appearance of drop sets.

Currently you need to choose between looking like an escaped murderous hobo, and effectiveness. The outfit system takes that issue away.

I guess it just depends what you do at high level. Each of my trails ready characters has multiple sets I keep on hand to change to for various different trials or fights. Most trials players are going to be like this

As for the actual question for this topic. Overlay.

If I make crafted gear I make it in the style I want it to be. Outfits gives me the option to swap back and forth between seeing what I am wearing or something different if I feel.

If it is dropped gear, outfits lets me hide it if I want to.

For me personally outfits in ESO will be much closer to the systems I liked in other games (outfitting in LOTRO for instance) than the transmog thing you see in Blizzard games, and this pleases me.

Outfit system is just a way to monetize a fun feature that most games offer (with a lot more options and a lot less hassle) for free. Typical.
I should be able to change each piece to look like any piece I already own, crafted or dropped, and be able to do different outfits for different characters without having to spend more money. Ridiculous.

When the Dragon Bones DLC launches I can finally wear something other than a costume or Daedric polymorh. The Necropotence (Argonian) light armor is like the complete opposite of my taste.
