Dried Blood - I need verification

It takes 10 dried blood to refine 1 tainted blood. Given a 100% drop rate you would need to use the blade of woe on 100 NPCs to get 10 style materials. Well, 100% drop rate just isn't a thing. Some sites reference a patch note stating Dark Brotherhood rank and knowledge of the Assassin's League motif improves drop rate of dried blood and chances at acquiring tainted blood from using the blade of woe. Before I go off on a Tamriel murder spree that could potentially take hours to obtain enough style materials, I want to know if the patch note statement is true. You see I'm gonna need enough style materials to make outfits for multiple characters. That's a ton of NPCs getting stabbed in the back. Is it worth the effort or is the drop rate just that bad?

The drop rate's okay over time.

Honestly, it's not going to matter for much longer. The next patch is going to introduce the outfit system. At that point if you know the motif, you'll be able to create custom costumes using it, which you can layer over whatever gear you want. (The outfits cost gold to create and customize, it's not cheap, but it is more persistent than tainted blood.)

Do you need the style material to make outfits?

The drop rate is definitely not 100%, it is pretty bad.

Fortunately lots of people make their gold through theft and murder so the mats are cheap through guild traders. If you just ask in zone chat in Vvardenfall the motif farmers may give you some for free.
#1 tip (Re)check your graphics settings periodically - especially resolution.

how much is your time worth?

there's always mimic stones (Edit: go to a guild store) - however, a murdering and thieving spree sounds like fun...

I don't think it's that expensive in guild stores. Hell, last year's anniversary event left me with a fair amount without me having to murder any one.

Style mats are moving to the trash heap on Monday (except for style mats used in crafting furniture).

You can use just basic style mats for crafting gear ... since the outfitter only requires you know the motif to overlay.

I have no problem collecting it. I don't even have to go on a murder spree in town. ANY humanoid NPC can be killed with blade of woe. I just find camps of humanoid NPCs and go around in stealth killing everyone. I collect dried blood pretty regularly without having to EVER kill an innocent.

Thank you for all the replies. I do appreciate and realize how pointless this thread becomes after the update. I've read up on the outfit system. I'm luckily subscribed at the moment and will be able to use it before my subscription runs out. I just hope the costs aren't too exorbitant.

Just so that I understand correctly. All that matters past the update is whether or not your crafter knows a style motif? Should you choose, you can still save on cost by crafting the old way too. This new system essentially allows players to "farm" overland sets and convert their look to a more "pleasing" style (personal preference).

Basically. The only other use for crafting in specific motifs will be to sell to other players.

@Taleof2Cities is correct though. As of Monday the value of style stones is going to take a serious hit. Once that's out in the world, there's going to be way less call for the motif stones, while the pages and books will be more valuable. So long as one character on your account knows the motif, you're good to go.

Don't forget you can also deconstruct any gear of that type for a good shot at getting the style material out of it.

With a high enough DB rank, you get a ton just from casually murdering when convenient. I've never bothered to check the actual droprate, but it's not too shabby.

AFAIK the drop rate depends solely on your Assasins League motif - the more pages you know, the better the chances of getting the style material. Other motifs with similar rule: Mercenary (Laurel), Ancient Orc (Casierite Sand), Order of the Hour (Pearl Sand), Buoyant Armiger (Viridian Dust) etc.

You will still need it for master writs as well. For me, that is more common than crafting to other players.

Maybe, just maybe, I have more than one character and wanted to use the style for more than 1 and only had 13 tainted blood vials. Then there is posibility that I like the style and considered dressing 4 or 5 characters that way. The point is it doesn't matter why. Each gamer plays their own way. I get to choose when and how I waste my time in game.
