Why do known cheaters keep coming back and why does the community keep propping them up?

Is ZOS that hard up for money?

Blizzard has a zero tolerance policy.

That's why eso pvp will not/can not be an esport and why eso can't attract better high caliber gamers.

Their policy seems to be that, with rare exception, accounts are banned, not people. On top of that, they often give two warning shots before they ban the account.

This gives plenty of opportunity for people to get wise and stop cheating. Although, chances are that if someone is cheating in the first place, they see nothing wrong with it, and less reason to change. Subsequent accounts are more likely to be played with more care to avoid detection, not played to avoid cheating.

ESO PvP wouldnt be an esport without cheating. In the big picture of gaming ESO's population is garbage. No one plays ESO.

And I am pretty sure if ZOS has hard evidence someone is cheating, their policy is no different than Blizzard.

Mh no, ZOS's policy is very very different:
    From 2016
We may decide to give a player who has been permanently banned a final chance after investigating a situation and speaking with them.

Do you know how many people play League, Dota2, or other real esport games? ESO doesnt even have a fraction of those numbers. Sorry.

Regardless of whether or not players care about other players selling gold, ZOS certainly does. ZOS wants to make sure that ZOS is the only people making money from selling in-game items.

Selling gold hits ZOS in the pocketbook and we all know how much ZOS cares about the money.

However, If someone gets banned for CE I hope they are aggressively banned and all subsequent accounts stay banned.

You get banned for exploiting or botting or just downright cheating and a week later you're back. They want to give people a second (or third or fifth) chance, that's just how they roll.

Speaking of botting - seeing as we're currently having bots in the game again, maybe it'd be time to remove that anti-botting bandaid that killed performance in Cyrodiil and consider hiring some GMs. Or they could just randomise spawn positions for monsters / mats. I'd like to see bots deal with that. :dizzy:

They're incredibly lenient in comparison. People rarely get perma bans, and when they do they're allowed to just buy a new account and begin again. Blizzard bans by machine ID, bans all accounts associated with that machine, and if you buy a new account and play it on the same computer it'll get automatically banned within a few days. Without turning this into naming and shaming, there's a lot of ESO regulars who have lost multiple accounts to things like Trials exploits and Cheat Engine that are still around on new accounts.

I have never played league or dota2, but I have played hots & little starcraft & played wow back in the day.

As far as I'm aware, the closest an MMO has come to becoming an esport was blade & soul due to its arena system where everyone's gear was basically normalized & it was all which skills you selected; but even that had some class inbalance issues.

Lag ie...a realm existing without lag; just doesn't exist in eso. Secondly, there are too many variables with the cp system & gear sets. Lastly every bit of coding would need to be fully optimized due to the crazy amount of bugs that happen inadvertently in really minuit situations that occur as a result of improper coding or qa testing...i.e...the "oh we didn't think of that at the time of implementation"

If I hit an ultimate & doesn't go off until the 5th spam of the button, this is obviously a problem.
If I break free & get CC'd a second later, that's a problem. These things can't exist in esports.
You can't demonstrate skill if you don't have proper control over your character.

    Who's cheating and came back?

And even if you name somebody - which I know that happened a long time ago but not recently - as long as they're forced into grinding everything back and all their hours playing the game literally are thrown away, I don't see why they can't/shouldn't come back.

brb we are gonna pretend people cant just buy accounts from people after one of theirs gets banned and go right back to exploiting/gold selling no grinding or re-gearing required. This isn't everyone's first MMO

First of all, you can't compare MOBAs to MMOs, doing that just makes you look ignorant. Secondly, no MMO will ever be viable esport material, simply because of how MMOs work. They are all about grinding BiS gear in a few weeks' time and stomping on everyone who isn't in one. As someone mentioned in this thread, the closest any MMO ever got to esports validation was Blade and Soul, simply due to it's arena system where gear was not really a factor.

Saying that ESO is "dead" or has no players, out of all MMOs out there, without any actual facts and only based on your own opinions of having played the game long enough to get burned out is literally the most ignorant thing you could do. ESO is one of the absolute biggest MMOs currently on the market (and I'm not talking about general games, I'm talking about MMOs) as proven by awards, nominations and literally devs giving out the population.

    TL;DR you're ignorant

I know I was a victim (as well as others) of some kind of cheat last night. I was riding to the Ash Milegate and hit a trap, fell, and was instantly dead. My screen froze up for a split second. Recap said 4 heavy attacks, same guy, same second on the combat log. Whoever it was never broke stealth, I never saw any indication someone was actually there. Numerous people reported the same thing, same guy. Not sure how you manage 4 heavy attacks in the same second, or do it without breaking stealth but that's not animation cancelling.

    Reading comprehension for the loss.

    1. You just made my point for me. Thanks.

    2. You took my original statement out of context. ESO is very much alive by MMO standards. By esport standard, ESO doesnt have the population to support even the smallest esport fanbase. And an even smaller PVP population on top of that.
