impenetrable question, and penetration question

Hello, i have two questions.

1) what does impenetrable actually do? ingame it says that it decreases the damage i take from crits, but as i said in this topic
( https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/393020/can-we-have-better-tooltips ) tooltips are many times wrong. Like the vma dual wield that says Flurry increase ur next single target dot, but increases spells like Rend too. Anyway, if i get critted for like 10k, then depending on how much crit resistance i have, i will take less damage, like how much? For 2k resistance i'll take 8k damage from that crit? or it does reduce the chance i am being critted. Like if enemy has 50% crit chance, me with 2k resistance he will have like 40% against me.
And as for PVP side, is crit resistance more important than % damage reduction? Like having Resistant is more important than Ironclad champion points?

2) how important is penetration? for example in the champion points, is Piercing more important than Mighty? (i know about over penetration, not talking about that) if i did not reach the cap, i should go for penetration until i do reach the cap? or is a general 10k penetration enough, and i should go for % damage. Asking for both pve and pvp, where in pvp tanks can have over 25k resists, so in these cases penetration is more important than % damage? Also, how would one know that absorb shields will not take damage like penetrating defense? And not able to get critted? This seems op for me, not enough that shield stacking is op as it is.

Someone more knowledgeable will reply properly, I'm also on my phone. In short

    1. 3300 crit resist negates 50% crit. So if I hit for 10k, and it ceirs I hit you for 15k. If you have 3300 crit resist (built from impen / CP or set bonus like transmutation) I would hit you for 10k

People can boost base crit - shadow mundus, elfborn CP points, trap, night blades etc

    2. Pen is important but know your target. Wards have zero resistance so you hit full force, no need for pen. If you have 20k pen and hit a light armour guy say 12k you have wasted investing in pen at the cost of boosting another stat. If you hit a 21k dude you are shy of his max

Work your targets average pen, aim for it.

Crit resistance is only valid for PvP, In PvE bosses/mobs cannot apply critical damage onto players, but in PvP players can crit other players.Having critical resistance is an important pvp statistic and should not be overlooked as most pvp dps players aim for builds that do high burst damage and that kind of damage without crit resistance would be un-survivable.

Impenetrable is more or less purely PvP trait. It negates critical damage.

Without impenetrable, you pretty much melt away when someone high dps player ambushes you
    NB enthusiastic:
    1. Woodhippie stamblade - DW hard-hitter / PvE
    2. Know-it-all elf Magblade - Healer / PvE & PvP
    3. Hate-them-all elf Magblade - Destrostaff AoE monster / PvE
    4. Cyrodiil-Refugee stamblade - Stamina Tank / PvE

    Go dominion or go home

Nightblade-Hipster. I played Nightblade before it was cool - from 1.5 onwards.

You would hit for 12.5k not 10. It negates 50% of the crit dmg. Not all dmg

    No, he was right.

    Normal hit does 100% damage
Critical hit does 50% more, so 150% damage.
Impen reduces the bonus damage crits do. 3300 impen reduces the bonus by 50% so from 150% to 100%.

I know this sounds confusing because when you say "reduces X by 50%" it is usually understood as "cuts X in half", but not in this case. 3300 impen simply reduces the bouns crit percentage by 50.

In PvP you need to have atleast 56 in to Ironclad
With Full impen gear and some points in to crit resist .
For light armor i recomend to have between 1500-2000 crit resist, Medium armor around 2500 , and Heavy armor users 3000-4000 .

Unless you play non-CP PvP. Rules are completely different there. As of next patch, BGs are non-CP in addition to sotha sil campaign.

Players have only 150% (160% in case of NBs and templars) critical damage modifier there. Secondly, 12% passive critical chance bonus from CPs is gone as well. Thanks to this, in non-CP environment, it is more important to focus on sustain rather than critical resistance.

Things to consider when building up for non-CP PvP: one gold impenetrable piece negates 3,91% of the critical damage modifier, transmutation buff negates 19% of the critical damage modifier and Impregnable armor 5pc set negates 37,88% of the critical damage modifier.
