So here I was just chilling in Grahtwood, looking for people to duel, when I see a low level pick a fight with an NPC and I saw something strange, something new. I then turned off my prevent attacking innocents and attacked the same npc once it reset to confirm what I had seen.

There is a npc in grahtwood with UNIQUE ABILITIES, THAT USES A SPELL IN ONE HAND AND A 1H SWORD IN THE OTHER. Is this the rumored battle mage class that was discussed in the forums before, or am I just being stupid.

Been playing for 2 years and first time seeing something like this.

Photographs:

1. He is holding a sword in one hand and a spell in the other

2. He is charging and releasing a spell.

3. He is shooting a spell out of his spell hand

Hm video would of been better.

But from what you describe, it sounds like the one hand and rune skill line we heard about a while ago. But thats still being worked on or something unless that was just a rumour

Not improbable. For example, when I was doing cadwells gold for what seemed like the millionth time I happened upon and area in the 4th AD region and at the top of the map there was a quest line concerning the green lady you meet on the starter island and her sisters and their keeper.

At this point I had played the game for 2 years and had absolutely no clue that area existed and missed it 3 times before on other characters.

Same goes here, could simply be an animation you didn't notice till it caught your eye as you were doing other things.

But it still wouldn't really be a dual wield for magicka builds because the sword is still a stamina weapon. It would be more of a hybrid option.

Likewise. NPC’s have some pretty incredible skills. I personally want access to: The ice wall that some of them summon, the blast of fire they can shoot from their hands (looks like the Flames spell from Skyrim), and the “Riot Control” ability that guards can do.

It would be cool to have a 1H / Rune skill line etc for us loyal DW Mag players but I'm sure all those rumours stemmed from a marketing image for MW I think and nothing more.

And as exciting as it sounds it would remove the 5:5:2 setup option and mean other skills need slotting moving needed class skills etc

    Not necessarily.

There's nothing inherent to 1H weapons that make them stamina weapons; it's the skills in their skill lines that do that.

Just like S&B and DW have completely different skill lines and abilities, despite sharing the same weapons, nothing prevents a new "Spell & Sword" skill line with magicka-based abilities.

    Or even... spellcrafting?

Do a heavy attack with only one 1h weapon slotted. Which resource does it return? Which damage stat does it increase?

Why not both, Stam from the 1H magika from the rune.

As for damage, DW currently buffs both. So would work the same way. That said DW needs a damage buff right now

If they do add a 1h and spell skill line, then it might be reasonable to think there would be a passive that changes it to work with magicka rather than stamina. Much like the Ancient Knowledge passive allows you to use magicka to block with an ice staff.

As they said earlier, it was a long time ago. Monsters and NPCs have more skills than the player (look at daedra, minotaurs, bosses). And this is normal.

Also you can find an NPC with spears in Skywatch (if my memory serves me).
    Everything is viable

The NPCs in this game all get to use fun hybrid builds but we aren't allowed to.

How many dungeons have those 2h, lightning AOE bosses. Both attacks hit hard. Yet we aren't allowed. CP and the removal of softcaps just screwed us, the NPCs are still having fun with hybrid builds.

Interesting idea, I like it. Easy solution and good for us since we surely wouldn't want to spill even more stuff than necessary into the loot table. The grind already is insane.
But even more I'd like to see this whole stam/ mag dichotomy go away. But that's unlikely.
However, the person I quoted said that there is nothing that makes 1h inherently stamina based and that it is only the skill line that gives them the stam character. But as of right now, that is simply not true. Therefore my post.
