Are the chests in collectable furnishings category? If so I believe that a small house have enough space.

it is classified as collectable items so in a small room there is room for 2 , then the question is if i have 4 small rooms can i do that and use them all at the same time or do i have to visit all places

A very good question. It got me to thinking...

The storage chests are "Collectible Furnishings". Free Inn Rooms have 2 slots for those, but it turns out that it might not matter how many slots any house has for them.

A quick test on PTS shows that you can place one of these chests in your house, put stuff in it, and then use housing editor to put the chest away. Your stuff stays in the chest even though the chest is not actually placed in any of your houses. The chest persists in your list of collectibles, and it looks like the record of the stuff inside it persists there too. Then, when you use housing editor to place the chest back in your house you can retrieve the stuff inside the chest.

More testing is required to make sure this practice is really secure - e.g. does all your stuff vanish or not when you exit the game.

I played around with this for an hour on PTS, putting stuff in chests, putting the chests away, logging out, exiting the game, etc. I couldn't break the system. It looks secure. I still have all my stuff. Nothing got lost and nothing got duplicated.

Judging by the system message you get when you put a loaded chest away, "Items in Storage Chest, Sturdy will be inaccessible until it is placed again", it looks like ZOS have anticipated that people will be doing this.

Do you have access to a 'Large' home to test with?

Basically your post brought up some additional questions for me.

If the cap is for 'Collectable Furniture' and the cap on a large home is 4 (8 if you have the monthly subscription), that means you can only ever store all 8 chests in a Large home and if you do you have to give up your Bank, Merchant, and Fence services correct?

It would also mean if you don't have a monthly subscription the most you can ever use is 4 chests.

Storage chests/coffers are "Collectible Furnishings", the same as undaunted trophies and busts, and also unique display items like the model of Vvardenfell. Banker/Merchant/Fence are "Special Collectibles", the same as pets and mounts. So the number of chests/coffers you have placed won't impact on your ability to have your banker/merchant placed in the same home.

Mid-sized classic homes, like Ravenhurst, have 20 slots for "Collectible Furnishings" with ESO+. So, I assume if you do not have ESO+ that would give you 10 slots for things like storage chests/coffers - more than enough.

In comparison, the smaller, staple home "Captain Margaux's Place" has 10 "Collectible Furnishings" slots with ESO+, while the large classic home "The Gardner House" has 40.

Storage chests use the same category as the group dungeon rewards (monster trophies). It's a fairly generous category.

Below: number of slots. Parenthesis indicate ESO plus.

    Apartment: 1 (2)
    Small House: 5 (10)
    Medium House: 10 (20)
    Large House: 20 (40)
    Manor: 40 (80)

I found this out after not being able to place a chest. I could place the chest when I put away a monster trophy.

I'll check this later today and correct my post if I am wrong.

I would say that it entirely depends on how creative you are. I saw a You Tube video that said that Snugpod isn't big enough for all the crafting stations. Not only do I have all the crafting stations, I made mine two floors, added the assistance and a big decorative counter and forge. To me, Snugpod is the best deal in the game. It is right next to the stable, a wayshrine, an unaunted enclave, and I can easily reach the outlaw refuge without attracting the guards.

    They link I think

So if you have box A in house 1 and box A and B in house 2 and box B in house 3

You can access the contents of both stuff stored in houses 1 and 3 at house 2

    Hope that makes sense

The answer is that you do not need to spend anything on a house in order to be able to use all 8 chests.

If you have only one of the free inn rooms you can still use all 8 chests for storage.

The only limitation is that you cannot access all 8 chests at the same time, only 1 or 2 of them.

To do this you need to do the following with each chest:

Step 1. Open the housing editor and place the chest in your room.
Step 2. Close the housing editor
Step 3. Open the chest and put into it the stuff you want to store.
    Step 4. Close the chest.
Step 5. Open Housing editor again, select the placed chest and then "Put Away".
Step 6. Close the housing editor.

If you do that with all 8 f the chests in turn you can have stuff stored in all of them, but none of them will actually be placed in your inn room.

To get at the stuff in one of the chests repeat the same steps again, selecting the chest you want to access in Step 1 in the housing editor.

Renaming the chests as a reminder of what's inside will help greatly, I'm sure.

This is a lot simpler than having 2 chests placed in each of the 4 free inn rooms, not least because you don't have to zone between inn rooms to get at all your stuff. The housing editor works a lot faster than a loading screen.
