Why group only?

Why do sets and abilities exist that are restricted to group members only? Is the point to reduce the load on the server, since those sets and abilities can ignore every player not in your group? Is there another reason?

It seems extremely unbalanced to fight groups in Cyrodiil who constantly purge and apply rapids to each other, but when I am surrounded by allies and cast those abilities they do not benefit anyone but myself.

Is the point to give groups an advantage over non-grouped players? Groups tend to inherantly have advantages over random solo players who happen to be fighting next to each other, so the group only stuff seems like overkill.

Could you imagine a medic in the military refusing to treat wounded soldiers because they arent in their squad? "Sorry soldier but my bandages only work on my squad mates".

What am I not seeing here? Why did groups need to be buffed in this way, and non-grouped players nerfed? I have played since beta, grouped and not grouped, and I dont remember ever thinking solo players were over performing because they could purge, pop rapids or benefit from a cost reduction set without being in a group.

Groups should be entirely about the markers above your head and the chat channel, they dont need a leg up for grouping.

    I can see what you are saying. However opinions differ hugely. Many on here actually get annoyed when things like healing ward or mutagen go to non grouped players.

    I concur its one alliance, but guess the assumption is people will group if they want to succeed in Cyro. Likewise organised groups would take a hit if randoms took heals / resources.

    So I do see what you are saying, but likewise know people see this both ways

    I have never grouped in Cyrodiil but I have never thought why should those guys have an advantage. I mean, if I thought I needed the advantage of being in a formal group, I would join one. I prefer the autonomy of solo play without relying on others and since I tank in pve, I like not having others rely on me. If you need the advantages of a group more than you need the freedom of solo play, group up. It's not like it's hard to find people to group with.

    Either way, have fun storming the castle.

    Those heals are not group only.

    Also I am not saying grouped players should be sharing their stuff with solo players, its more about a solo player casting purge while surrounded by other solo players, but only the player casting gets purged.

    I have said often that there should be a feature that at the very least allows premade groups a private instance of the dungeons.

    Most of the time when I am running with grouped guild mates in public dungeons we get griefers that train mods into us or do anything possible to ride our coat tails...it kills the experience, and makes the game unfun.


    Also how lame is it to get a quest about a ancient ancestral tomb that no one has visited in hundreds of years and you find 60 people running around and guy at the door selling Vamp bites.

    This lameness isn't part of what makes a MMO it is what makes a game unfun and frustrating.

    I am not sure it had the intended outcome. Wouldn't it just cause way more heals and purges to be cast overall? Before One Tamriel we had a few people at a siege casting purge to cleanse many allied players, now we have half the alliance spamming it continuously, or spamming heals(which still hit everyone) over and over because so many people simply don't(or can't continuously) purge.
