Trying to understand the differences, and where to spend my points...for pvp

Mainly a bow user. Recently been using heavy attack vs lethal arrow. Overall though I don't know is some of this skills are redundant or complimentary. What is the difference between physical damage vs direct damage etc

Physical damage applies to all your damage that is labeled as physical, no matter if it's a direct hit, aoe or damage over time. Mighty of course also buffs disease and poison damage which can be relevent.

Master at arms buffs direct damage. This refers to abilities to do a direct single target hit.
For example lethal arrow, dyzzing swing, light and heavy attacks and similar abilities. And this does stack additively with Mighty.
So you need both if you want to maximise your damage.

There are the two basic damage types Magic Damage and Physical Damage which them selves are split up in four "Elements"
    More information here.

Then there are further modifiers based on how the damage is dealt, these are over time, direct, ground based, etc. Those modifiers are not bound to any specific damage type.

This can be confusing as the terms are often pretty similar, but non of these damage types or modifiers is actually redundant.
