I just got the 500 agrees badge and it tells me only 1332 people have ever gotten it. I only have 4 stars so I'm still on the lower half. Obviously a small portion of the population ever uses the forums, let alone participates in them. But I still was surprised it was that low.

Forum Populations only represent a small part of the player base. For any game. That is why it's dangerous to take ideas from forums, like making leveling go even faster, and implement them in the game. The other side of it, the slant we tend to get from the forums. As people are more want to complain or criticize as opposed to compliment and praise, the view people get from the forums on the state of the game is skewed.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    That's why we say this.

The vocal minority changes the game while the silent majority goes along with the ride.

People agree with those they seem to either believe they have the right idea, reinforces their preconceived notions, or takes their side on a(n) particular matter.

OP, @Nestor just misses his stars since he became an ambassador.

I'm about 90 away from a new star, guess I could be like that one new awful person and farm stars with horrible, clickbait titles. Try to get the badges for answered questions. It's surprisingly hard.

Its sort of how the majority of players haven't maxed out their bag/bank space, fully trained a mount, or sit at less than 200k gold.

    For comparison:
    1st Comment Badge: 138,107 people
    10 Comments Badge: 32,853 people

That's a pretty large drop-off, but also pretty predictable. Lots of people join up, fewer people stick around. Even the 10 Comments Badge says it: "No longer a one-hit wonder! It looks like you’re going places."

It's especially true for this game where you need to contact support in order to join the forums, so most people don't.

Reddit is a much better representation of the player base.

While I completely agree, I think the forums is a good place to complain though as realistically its the most likely place a mod or dev will see whats being said in comparison to something like reddit tho reddit is rather active too.

While its true that the view of the game can be skewed, I do think that people should be given the benefit of the doubt here before they're written off even if they're known, "trolls" or "baiters". Even a silly person can make a good or valid point.

I come to the forums for a couple of reasons. The first is the socialization is better. I dont want all my conversations to be ground down to elementary school and that is what a lot of in game chat tends to be. So i find conversations here to be more engaging and less " i dont agree with you, so i am going to insult you."

You have 4 types of people that go to game forums:

    1) Trolls- These annoying people spend 90% of their time trolling the boards to comment on every single thread and reply to every single post and 10% actually playing the game. Trolls arent to bad on these forums.

    2) The Hit and Run Complainer- These are people that get on the forums long enough to go on a rant about something, demand something be changed, and then you wont see them again for weeks, months, even a year...if ever again.

    3) The Scholars - They know, what seems to be everything about the game. You most often find them in the help/guides/builds/etc sections as a sort of volunteer support.

    4) The Critical Thinker- Often confused with the Hit and Run Complainer. The Critical Thinker offers constructive criticism of the game and its features and how they think it could be improved. This is probably the most useful but most underused "tool" devs have for game development.

There is only one MMO in existence that utilizes the community for game development on a serious level that i have seen. And its made them quite successful with sub players who have been playing the game for 10 years or more( In Aug, i will be one of those 10 year vets). The devs engage the community personally, not through proxies. They ask for feedback and where they want the game to go. In return, they were gaining players, many of who stay for years, even during the "great recession" even though the game is something like 14 or 15 years old.

Less than 10% of a games population ever post on the forums and less than 1% post regularly and thats with a healthy forum community. The 90% that doesnt participate in forum conversations about the direction of the game has no right to complain when it goes in that direction and they didnt like it. Dont phone it in and then complain because you dont like the route it went.

And most people approve of a game with their time and their wallet. If you have a net gain month over month then people generally like what you are doing. If you have a net loss, then you better change something fast. Its a terrible, but easy way to manage a game.

A more interesting numbers in my opinion is the first comment badge. Only 138118 players have ever earned this. Now I've been here since September 2013, and it's interesting to also note only 1310 players have the 4 year anniversary badge. Compared to about 13000~ having the 3 year anniversary, and it goes higher the shorter the term.

I take away from this that over the lifetime of ESO, only 1300~ players that started on the forums are left. That's a more telling number hehe.

I've also not had that many agrees out of 234 comments..(189 agrees) using the 500 agrees badge is of course going to be rarer lol

If the former then the latter is almost a given.

Complaints are fine when it highlights an issue, the squeaky wheel and whatnot.

Generally if things are working and the players are happy then they are in game enjoying themselves rather than on here so overall yes, I'd expect a somewhat negative bias.

Having said that I consider these forums to be extremely mild, the view from them is actually a rather reasonable representation of the game.

    @xeNNNNN

Your absolutely right in that the Forums are, or should be, a mechanism to provide constructive criticism. People need a place to state what they want to be improved or changed, and hopefully offer up suggestions on how to fix or improve it. Any game developer welcomes those type of threads and posts, or should. If nothing else, people don't want to make things better if something basically sucks, they want something that is pretty good to be better. Nobody wants a broken game improved, most people want a good game tweaked.

What I was referring to are the QQ and Rage Quit and THIS SUCKS type of posts, where all it is a rant, and even worse, the poster and some select others don't want to hear about how to make it work, just want to rant.
