Intended or unintended?

So today i've found that max mailbox capacity is 77 mails.

Right now i have 14 chars which give me 14x5=70 mails. Also one more slot coming and once i will recive all hireling's mails i will have have only 2 free slots for any incoming messages.
Ridiculously strange looking decision in my opinion for obvious reasons, if it was ever made such way.

But maybe i'm wrong guys? Just can't understand why it's seventy seven?

The Hirelings are character specific. Just because you have 14 characters doesn't mean you have all 70 mails in the same inbox.

Yes i do. Saving my time login/relog to another char, accumulate all mails on main crafter where i'm using some addons for loot statistic. I have few slots for important guild/friends mails i want to keep. If someone doesn't level multiple chars or have only one or two of them, why should i suffer? Why i should make re ridiculous things? And why dasnip it's 77?

Actually, the max mails you can have is 72. I'm not sure if that includes the ones that aren't shown when you get prompted to delete a few mails to make room for more, but when you do and close/re-open your inbox, the rest usually show up.

I'm fairly certain the cap used to be 107 until very recently. I'm not sure what they changed or why they did it. I've also noticed that sometimes, when I log in, the mail popup on my chat box tells me that I have way more mails than I actually do, and then it goes back down right away. For example, I would see something like 44 for a split second, and then it would immediately switch to 30. WTB Explanation.

72 is the max until your mailbox is full for the purpose of other players sending you mail. System mails like trader purchases, hirelings, etc will just Q up past the 72 limit. Once you empty your mailbox, they will appear.
