Will the incoming patches for the Intel Meltdown and Spectre bugs have an impact on ESO performance ? I quote "Epic Games on Friday explained the cause of recent login and stability issues experienced by its players, noting: "All of our cloud services are affected by updates required to mitigate the Meltdown vulnerability." " which is my reason for asking

No significant impact on players (ie, framerates), significant impact on hosting facilities and server operators.

I don't think we'll see any new background performance issues from the player side; they'll be drowned out in the sea of other background performance problems we already experience.

It's going to be a long game for anyone affected. Personally, I was starting to shop around for another rig but now I'm going to be waiting for probably Gen 2 of a new secure chip. So that puts me at 2020 or 2021 to replace my current setup.

It may be at least that long for any affected developers to invest in new equipment, because the last thing you want to do is drop a lot of money on a solution that, it turns out, doesn't actually solve the problem.

So there's really nothing to do except update, take a deep breath, and realize we're all in this thing together. Except for one *** bag CEO who jeopardized the reputation of an entire company for what may turn out to be illegal financial gain.

But every adventure needs a villain, I suppose.
